On nights we go to MK or MGM for fireworks, is it a better idea to drive ourselves there that evening?? I am hearing scary things about the bus service right now to PO Riverside. If we drive, do we still have to take any kind of bus or monorail to the parking lot?? It has been 11 years since I have been to WDW and don't remember how parking lots work.

The only park you will have to take a tram from the parking lot to the gate is the MK. The WDW bus will take you right to the gate. IMO, that is the only park I would take the bus to. When we stayed at DxL, we had a rental car and used it to all the parks except the MK.

If you are leaving a park at closing time, you can expect some waiting in line for transportation - even if you drive. You still have to get through the gates and turnstiles, and ride a tram to your car (or walk). Then you fight the traffic getting out of the parking lot. It's worse at MK because you first have to ride the monorail or ferry over to the TTC, and then wait for the tram to your car.

I would take the bus to MK because the bus stop is on the MK side of the lake and you eliminate the monorail/tram/parking lot/driving scenario. At the other parks it is probably a toss-up. Just depends on whether you choose to drive in traffic or ride a crowded bus.

WDW veterans often leave the parks before closing or hang around in the gift shops until the crowd has dispersed.

I am of the opinion that nothing in WDW is further than 20 minutes away ...by car. I guess it depends upon how much time you want to spend.

If you drive to MK, you have to wait in line for the monorail or the ferry, then wait in line for the tram that actually takes you to your car because the parking lot is so huge. Even if you end up waiting the same amount of time for the bus (which isn't a sure thing), you'll be standing in one place in a sheltered waiting area with a fan. You won't be walking all over the place or having to hang on to your kids so they don't get run over.

Bus. Especially at night. Everyone is tired, and it's great to get on and let the driver get you to your resort.:D
