Drive time from PA

We have always driven to FL but this is our first time driving in a motor home. As we won't be driving 80mph as we would in our car I'm wondering what the average time is to get from our neck of the woods (NW PA) to DW in a motor home.

Normally we leave home around 8 am and make it to Coumbia SC for dinner and a good nights sleep. Up and on the road again by 8 am and in DW mid afternoon.

Not knowing exactly where you're at in NW PA I'll just assume Erie for this example.

It's going to take you about 18 hours of straight driving at 60 mph. Now we all know it's not possible to maintain one speed the whole time, traffic can slow or speed things up, and not everyone requires the same number of potty stops. You can probably make Columbia in 11 hours or so. 7+ hours the next day into FW/DW.

Just playing around with my Rand McNally Tripmaker CD going from Erie to Fort Wilderness at an average of 65 on the interstates and slower on other roads shows a trip of 18 hours and 14 minutes. If you start at 8 am it shows you getting to Columbia at about 7 pm. Starting again the next day at 8 am shows you getting to FW at about 3 pm. It is usually pretty accurate for us but ymmv. If you want to tell me your exact town name I can modify the trip plan.

Doing the speed limit from here in Delaware it takes us 15-16 hrs by the car. When we take the motor-home it takes 17-18 hrs. I think the extra times is in the fuel stops (usually 3 stops). Takes so much longer to fill the motor home than the car. The car only takes 15 gals for 300 miles the MH takes 30 - 40 gals . I would say to add at least 2 hrs to whatever your car trips were for a good estimate. Looks like you will need 4 stops for fuel.

We just did the drive to WDW last month. It took us 20 hours total to get there from Erie. When are you going? Hope you have a great trip!

Gunship Guy.... My DH is from McKean. Did your DW go to General Mclane high school? My DH graduated from there mmmmmmany years ago.

20 hours doesn't seem too bad. And those 20 hours will be a lot more bearable in the MH instead of the minivan! Do you go 79 down through WV then pick up 95 in SC or do you take the turnpike over and do 95 the whole way down?
Oh, and we'll be leaving Nov. 27th. We won't actually get to DW until the 30th. At DH's request we've decided to see what else FL has to offer. So we'll be spending a couple of days at one the the FL state parks on the ocean and going to KSC. Then spending the next 9 days in DW

I drive past the McKean exit on the hiway almost every day!
My FIL gives the most detailed driving directions than anyone I know. So detailed in fact that he ends up confusing people and getting them lost. Whenver he gives directions to our place (DH's family is from Pittsburgh and they all come to visit alot!) he always tells people to get off at the exit right after the McKean exit. Don't get off at the McKean exit but the one after the McKean exit. He makes such a fuss about it that almost everyone ends up getting off of the McKean exit

My wife went to Gen McLane Middle School then over to Bethel Christian for high school.

She flew up there a couple weeks ago to visit her family. Said it was snowy and cold. I'm sun-spoiled. I'm originally from Ohio but I never want to move back to a snow state again.

Here's my 2 cents. I used to live near the Allegheny National Forest. Toughest part about the drive from there is that PA has no really good North-South route from there. I now live near Allentown, so this info will be from there.

Keep in mind, I am towing a trailer, so with a motorhome you will have longer range and therefore fewer fuel stops, and may be able to get a little better speed than I can (my top speed is about 65 mph, if the wind is with me).

Last November, we left home about 3 AM, made it to Florence, SC by about 4:30 PM. Left Florence about 4 AM and arrived FW at 2:30 PM. We don't spend an over abundance of time at rest stops, but do have to make a lot of fuel stops, since I can only get about 11 mpg with the trailer, and my truck doesn't have an aux fuel tank.

26 to 95.... 95 to 4.

The motorhome uses alot of gas in the mountains but we have tried other routes and we like this one best. When we go in the car it's only an 18 hour trip. But with the extra fuel stops and slower speed in the motorhome, it's about 20 hours.

That's the same rout we use Princessariel. It's a beautiful drive! We love the mountains but it can be a hair raising drive at times

This info was great...We'll be driving from Fleetwood, PA to FW in October. This will be our first lllloooonnnnggg trip with the travel trailer(no more than 3-4 hours before) but for 10 days in beautiful Florida, it will be worth it. It is also our 1st time at FW, so I have alot to look forward to!!!
