Drive time from orlando to Key West?

we will be coming in on the autotrain & spending a couple of days in Key West. Can anyone tell me how long it takes to drive there from the orlando area?

Back in '96 we spent part of our honeymoon in Key West, part in Orlando. Our travel agent said the drive would be 8-10 hours. We opted to take a flight that was an hour instead (the plane was a tiny, 32 seater).

It will be a fairly long drive.

It is about 4 hours to Miami (I think) and then it takes several hours to get to Key West. The road linking key west with the mainland used to be a two lane and unless they have improved it, traffic was VERY slow.

Several years ago, we drove from Orlando to Key Largo, which took 5 hours. Then, a few days later, we drove from Largo to Key West, and that was around 2 hours, too. Depending on the time of day, you can figure it to be almost all day. Seven hours minimum.
