Every trip to Disney we have used Disney Transportation. However, I have been seeing a lot of issues with buses and the skyliner not running sometimes. So now we are wondering if we should just drive to the parks instead. Has anyone been recently? Is it easier to just drive? I love using Disney transportation and not having to worry about driving. TIA!

DW and I are wondering the same thing - get a rental car or just ME from the airport? Normally I dislike renting a car but I just don’t know how efficient Disney’s transportation system is these days. Wouldn’t want to spend hours a day waiting for a bus. But then I think maybe I should just relax...

Guess there’s always Lyft in a pinch!

We were there around 2 weeks ago (stayed at OKW) and used Disney transportation. No issues at all our entire stay. At the airport, we only waited around 15-20 minutes for our bus to leave for resort. At our resort and parks, we didn't have any excess wait times. However, this could vary depending on what resort you are staying at. For example, the bus lines at the parks for Pop Century were very long, and with social distancing in place on buses, it appeared that people had to wait some time for a bus.

Bumping this thread up to see how things are now. I’m hearing Disney transportation takes a long time and that parking is free right now in the parks. Is this true?

Parking at the parks is definitely not free.

If you are staying onsite or have an AP then parking is free. If not, then you have to pay for parking.

I wouldn’t worry about driving if you won’t already have a car with you. I definitely wouldn’t rent one just to drive to the parks, but if you are driving and staying onsite, I love driving to the parks! You get to leave on your own schedule and during Covid, it just means less exposure to other people in enclosed spaces. I used to love Disney transportation, until we traveled with our own car and now I never want to go back to the buses 😂 I still like the boats and monorail, though (if those are options)!

Even though we always have a car at WDW, DW and I always use the Disney Transportation system, even during these restrictive times. We plan ahead and realize that from time to time there will be delays and hiccups. We treat the process as part of the bubble magic. We have met so many nice people on the busses/monorails, love the Skyliner, and the boats are just so relaxing. We-re in our early 60's now, so the need for speed has passed. Bus roulette (take the first park bus that arrives) was a fun game we'd play - looking forward to being able to do that again.
