Drive-Ins

We have 2 within 40 minutes to us. We go a few times each year. I might be taking my son and his friend this weekend, just waiting to find out what the movies are.

We just discovered the drive in!!! DD is 15 months. She goes to bed around 7:30. We don't have family in the area nor a babysitter. It makes for a perfect date night. We all go to dinner at a restaurant near the drive in. Then she falls asleep in the car on the way to the movie. DH and I get over 4 hours of time together and we like being in the car because we can talk during the movie if we want to share a thought.

Drive ins - Hollywood's babysitter!

Nope, no more drive-ins here. We haven't had one in over a decade. But I do remember the last movie I saw. It was Back to the Future (the first movie) and I was 14. That drive-in had a playground as well.

We only have 1 now but we love it.. People come with couches!!! :lmao:

Anyway can't beat $7 for 2 movies! :goodvibes

We have one less than 10 minutes away and two others within 30 minutes. We try to go to the close one a couple times a summer and throw an old futon mattress in the back of the truck, take a cooler and tons of snacks and put the kids in their pj's. Normally, I'm the one who sleeps through the whole second movie though.:rotfl2:

we have one by Oswego NY and one near Auburn NY. About the same drive to each. We love going! Shrek this weekend and two others!!! One of these is the same one I went to as a child/teen - closed for a few years and then someone opened it back up.:)

we used to have a triple screen near us! You could watch one feature and then move to take your pick of the next three!!!!:)

:wizard:

There used to be one near me. It was great because they always did double features! :thumbsup2 Unfortunately, it was closed down over 10 years ago. They left the lot empty for 4-5 years, then put in another mall. :sad2: I miss that drive in!

There are 3 drive-ins (according to a Google search) in my province, one of which is within driving distance of my home. The last time I went was last July, and we had a great time!

There are also 2 drive-ins in PEI, where my summer cottage is located. As far as I know, they're still both operating; I'm not quite sure about one of them.

I grew up in Southern California & my family went to the drive in all the time when I was little! There was nothing quite like being able to watch a movie in your pajamas! (this was before anyone who wasn't rich had a VCR player at home )

There's one near where I live now that I've been to a couple of times, but for it to be fun you pretty much can't go for about half the year as there's nothing fun about sitting in a HOT car to watch a movie.

We haven't had a drive-in near us for more than 30 years! Most of the drive-ins in the South died out years ago. I guess the time change during the summer months makes it hard-it doesn't get dark here until almost 9:00PM. I worked in St. Charles, Ill one summer about 15-16 years ago and we took groups from the camp to the movies-we had a blast!

We have a drive in with one screen down the street (5 minutes away) and then one about about 40 minutes away (10 minutes from our old house) that has two screens.

We love the drive in! Ours is $14 per car for two movies.

Yea, we're big fans of the drive in. We are loyal patrons of supposedly "America's Oldest Drive-In"
www.shankweilers.com

Have spent some epically-late nights there! This past weekend we saw Prince of Persia and Robin Hood. Some of us stayed awake, some did not. That's the beauty of the whole experience. Make yourself comfy, doze, eat, etc. Love it!!

Yes! I grew up going there and to Becky's, (which used to bill themselves as america's oldest continuously running drive in) which was closer to where my family lived and actually my dad grew up with the Beck's as family friends.http://www.beckysdi.com/

There's also a drive in in Lehighton PA that is definitely not as nice as Shankweiler's and Becky's but I think they do triple features instead of double.

The closest drive-in to us is 45 minutes away and we go every Friday night starting the end of June:) It opens up in May but with DST the first movie doesn't start until too late for us so we wait until school gets out and it starts getting darker a bit earlier.

I grew up with drive-ins, one in town, one a town over. Its where all the teenagers hung out. I spent many a night in the trunk of a car sneaking in:rotfl2: I wish my kids could experience the fun we had but it's too far away for them to go to hang out and, like so many other things we enjoyed, is not pc anymore.

We stop for chinese food or pizza, bring our lawn chairs (and bug spray) and enjoy the great outdoors with a movie. There is a playground and a mini-golf too but that's a novelty for the first-timers;) Can't beat the price tag either:thumbsup2

My first drive-in movie was the Exorcist with my VERY young parents who apparently figured I'd sleep through it, NOT. In high school I remember going to see some good horror flicks like Last House on the Left and Texas Chainsaw Massacre:scared1: They don't play too many of those type movies anymore, now more mainstream like Shrek and Ironman...

my friend and her husband own one about an hour away. I keep telling my husband I want to go there, spend the night at the Holiday Inn just down the hill from it, and go see a movie. They show only family-friendly movies.

There's one near where I live now that I've been to a couple of times, but for it to be fun you pretty much can't go for about half the year as there's nothing fun about sitting in a HOT car to watch a movie.

We never sit in the car, we always kind of tailgate. Is that not an option in AZ? Not being snarky, I really don't know and am curious.

I think there might be one a town or two over. I'll have to look into it. That might be something fun for us to do this summer.
