Drinks/Fridge ???s

So, do I understand right?----

Softdrinks are only free in the diningrooms - NOT in the Topsider buffet, NOT w/room service....????

So how much are softdrinks w/room service???
How much are water bottle w/room service?
How does the regular "tap" water taste if we just fill our own container???

How much room is in the fridge they give you?
Is the fridge already stocked with other "goodies"???

(I'm trying to guage what drinks to take & how much room there'll be to refridgerate them....!)

I had a AAA mug so I can't answer the other questions but I can start you out with this one - think under the counter size bar refrigerator. It is completely empty. But since almost any food you want is available somewhere on the ship all of the time (think room service if necessary).

Depending on which cruise you are on there will be some opportunity to purchase more soda/drink in port.

I'm sure some one will be along soon to address the other questions.

Soft Drinks topside can be bought individually or you can purchase a 16oz, mug for $35.00 that allows you to refill for the whole trip including Castaway Cay. Otherwise there is water, ice too, topside, free, but the sodas are not. I do not know what the cost was for roomservice, but I am sure there was a cost. I read where one person brought water and some sodas aboard and stored them in their refridgerator, but I dont think they will allow you to bring enough for the cruise.

also be aware that it is NOT a fridge....its more of a cooling box, it will keep things cool but not cold. I would not trust it is cold enough to keep milk from spoiling....

We brought two 12-packs of Diet Dr. Pepper (not served on board) in our checked luggage (well protected, BTW). We also brought drink mix for Diet TANG and Crystal Lite.

We used the water & ice from the drink station for drinking water and mixing drink powder.

Our little fridge worked great! It kept everything very cold, but then again I brought a collapsable cooler and packed our stuff in ice first, then put it in the cooler. Maybe that helped?

We don't drink much soda, but did bring a 6 pack, a 12 pack of beer, 2 bottles of champaign and 6 juice packs for our room. Anastasia only drank soda at dinner, which was great because that encouraged her to drink more water during the day (which you will need in the climate there). The water tasted fine. They called it Mickey Water, and we enjoyed it all day long! We're pretty picky with our water, mostly drinking bottled stuff, but we enjoyed the tap stuff just fine.

the fridge was important for our family because our baby drinks milk and pretty much nothing else. but to tell you the truth it didn't even cool anything let alone keep it cold. so make sure to ask for ice as soon as you get to your room. i kept the ice in the box in a large plastic bag or you could use a soft sided cooler as others have suggested.

Wow! I'm surprised they let you bring on your own drinks. We went on a carnival cruise 3 years ago, and they wouldn't let us bring on anything!

This will be great! Will save us alot of money. I also guess I missed the part about the cooler. Is that in every room?

The cooler is in every room. It definitely works better is you put cold stuff in there. Ours could not make anything cold, but it kept cold stuff cold???? Make sure to shut it as soon as you get to your room. They leave the door ajar and as soon as you shut it it starts to "cool".

The cool box on the Magic was a "Servi-Bar" when the ship was constructed (the remnants of the secure loading doors still remain). I was told by a maintenance worker that the cooling system is common to the cabin air conditioning system, so it is unlikely that it will get any cooler than 40 - 50 Farenheit on its own, but that still could depend upon the particular unit and how far "down the line" it is from the coolant source.

Ours kept drinks chilled once they were already cold. It would take a day or so to chill a room temperature 6-pack without assistance. I recommend you chill your drinks on ice in your carry-on collapsible cooler first. For stuff you want to keep really cold (beer & milk), bring a plastic "squarish" tupperware just large enough to hold four cans each standing upright (and add ice).

There were removable wire "dividers" in ours intended to keep cans/bottles in neat rows. You could remove these to make room for your "adaptation."
