Drinking Water

I usually carry water bottles in a backpack but because of the backpack rules at Universal I am trying to be backpack free. I am hoping we can just get free ice water at the food places. What do other water drinking families do? We will be there in June and I know staying hydrated will be important.

You can get free ice water at any number of food stands throughout both parks...you just have to ask.

There's plenty of drinking water fountains too - water tastes better than at Disney too!!!

Backpacks are allowed in the park, but there are a few rides where they aren't allowed. For those, Universal provides free lockers for a short time (enough time to ride, so the length of time is based on the current wait time). But, it can be a bit of a hassle and I'm guessing that's why the OP wants to go without backpacks.

when i want water, i ask at the stands or counter service places.

Your assumption is correct. My goal is to not to have to use a locker.
