This may be a silly question, but is it safe to drink the water from the taps in a rented villa or would people recommend buying bottled water. I know that when you travel to Europe, it is not advised to drink tap water, but is there a similar situation in the US?

I drink the water from any tap in Orlando unless it specifically says you can't - it's quite safe. It does have a strange taste though that a lot of people really don't like.

Hi

We use the water out of the fridge as that usually has a filter in it to make coffee and cook etc:thumbsup2

And buy bottled water for drinking as its only cheap think its around 60c, but thats as I drink alot of water (and I dont even like the tap water in the UK)

As said perfectly safe to drink but we don't really like it. We buy bottled, Publix sell gallon bottles for about $1.29 or 99 cents if on offer.

We just leave a big jug of tapwater in the fridge every night for the following day to top up our water bottles - tastes fine!

We bought loads of bottled water, but did drink the free wwater in the parks (just asked at CS locations for tap water)

It taste a bit swampy, but we used the crystal light on the go sachets and then it's only a little bit swampy!

I have a really sensitive stomach and the tap water never upset it. :)

If it's for a cuppa :surfweb: then tap water is put in the kettle , but for drinking water we have always used bottle water .

I've know idea if it's ok to drink the tap water in the villa as i've never asked the question before :confused3 & just thought it would be better for us doing it the way we do it

We have used the tap water on may occassions but as far as I can remember the fridges in the villas we have had have all had a cold water and ice attachments, and they taste much better than the tap water.
We also go for the bottles for when we are away from the villa.

We usually buy the 5 gallon bottles of drinking water from the supermarket for $1.99 (well they were 2 years ago.) We also buy 2x 750ml bottles and then fill them up with the chilled water. If we run out in the parks, we'll then fill them up at a water fountain.

I think the funny taste from the tap is due to the amount of flouride in the water.

When we go the water parks, we get refillable cups with the barcodes.

We don't like the taste either - so we buy the gallon bottles to make tea/coffee and then smaller bottles to chill/freeze and take with us on our days out.

As others have said its safe to drink and comes down to personal choice x

The first time we went we did drink tap water for a couple of days but then we all had a funny tummy so swapped to bottled water and have never gone back to tap water whilst visting america. Bottled water is ridculously cheap not like over here.

I too think there is a higher amount of flouride in the water and thats why it tastes weird and for some people affects the tummy.

I was told it had a higher sulphur content than over here - either way it tastes better cold and has never affected my family, luckily. For the last two trip I used a Brita sports bottle with a filter which worked really well at getting rid of the taste - but Brita have stopped selling the replacement filters in the UK :confused3

When I asked a similiar question about the safety of tap water in hotel rooms the Americans that answered were shocked that I would even think it might not be drinkable. (I think there'd be a lot of suing going on for bad water that wasn't marked as such.)
