Drinking water at the Fort

For those of you who use the water spigots for cooking or drinking or mixing up powdered drinks: does the water at FW tend to have a very "treated" taste to it? I can't possibly afford bottled water for everything for a week's stay, so just wondering if we ought to bring something like a Brita filter....

We bring our own drinking water in our RV fresh water tank and also in a 6 gallon water cooler jug. I have a battery operated pump for that and try using it up first for things like coffee or cooking. We use the water hookup for toilet and washing dishes. I noted that the ice machines all have filters which seems to help make the cubes tast better.

I can tell you that we use Brita bottles in the parks. Unless you have storage, I think Brita is a good option.

We're tenters so have no large storage capacity, so Brita it will be!

We use bottled water and don't end up spending a lot of money for it. We buy about 48 bottles at a time (24 to a case I think) at Sams Club. Works good for us, but there are just two of us. We almost never make coffee. The refillable beverage mugs are a good deal and we use them every morning for coffee.

FW has the GREATES water. IT is great for playing guess that smell and guess that taste. We always use bottled water.

We use a brita filter on the faucet in the kitchen of our trailer, which does a pretty good job of getting rid of most of the taste, then we use brita water bottles to go out with, which gives us a double filtration of the water. Makes it as good as any bottled water.

We always use a filter that hooks up on the outside of our camper where the hose meets the camper, will this filter enough of this "yuck" out of FW's water, or will we need something stronger?

Hey, I live here in Orlando and I drink the tap water with no filtering. Of course, I'm the only one at home who will. Heck, even the dog won't drink the water here unless it is filtered!!

We spent 2 weeks in FW and have to say, I had heard about the funky water after we had stayed there in 2000 and 20002. I didn't remember anything unusual then and have to say, the 3 kids and DH and I all drank the water and I am happy to report, we're all still alive and kicking! The only time we used the Brita Fill and Go bottle was when we were heading into the parks. If we were in the cabin, we just used it right from the tap. Not only did we make coffee with it, I had Kool Aid for the kids along as well as making milk from the Carnation powder (I was not about to pay $2.50 for a half gallon!! ). You would think that if it tasted even slightly 'odd', the kids would of been the first ones to squawk! Gee, maybe where I live had lousy water too and I just don't realize it!!

PS DH is an "expert" on drinking water at this point in the game...he underwent radiation for cancer in his neck/throat last year and it has fried his saliviatory (sp??) gland..he needs to drink water all the time as he suffers from chronic dry mouth now. No complaints from him.
