Drinking in the Parks

I am at WDW now. First of all I'm not someone who is against alcohol but I am really surprised at how much it has taken over WDW. Yes, I know it is Food and Wine but it someone takes away from the Disney magic when there are groups of people that seem to be "all about the drinking". I've seen groups with shirts on that said Drunk 1, I'm Here for Wine, and my favorite (not) was a large group of 30ish years olds who all had on shirts that said "Hi Ho Hi Ho It's Off To Drink I Go. We decided that with the F&W going on this weekend we wouldn't take our grandchildren to Epcot until next week. Much to my dismay, when we were at Hollywood Studios there were people walking around carrying a cup of beer. Is it just me or do others feel the same?

The sentence in bold makes the rest of your post make no sense.

If you are not "against alcohol," what is your point? Just letting us know that people are doing something that you don't have a problem with?

Maybe I'm oblivious to what goes on around me, but I've never noticed an over abundance of drinkers in the parks- Wouldn't bother me if I did, but sometimes I think you find what you're looking for.

Live and let live- My grandson will survive seeing cups of beer being carried around.

I have no problem with people drinking at WDW. I don't like seeing the falling down puking drunks, but I've only seen one at F&W.

And I think the creative shirts are awesome and hilarious.

I interpret it to mean that people were not drinking in moderation which he does not object to, but in excess, to which he disapproves.

I'm not against alcohol either. I understand that WDW is supposed to be a family place. It's pretty much the only place where I think it's a overly obnoxious and inappropriate when people get over the top drunk in public... but I understand that it's going to happen anywhere that alcohol is served. Epcot does have this thing about drinking around the world. I'm cool with that as long as people don't become loud and disrespectful. Same goes for DHS. I don't see what the big deal is with people carrying beers around as long as they aren't bothering anyone else. I'm going to be there with DS soon and I'll very likely have a drink or two just because it's vacation.

Unnecessary rudeness is as distasteful as public intoxication. :sad2:

I don't understand how anyone can afford to get drunk in WDW but unless they are truly bothering people or they plan to drive then it's no one's business.

I know! How people get sloshed there is beyond me. Their drinks have hardly any alcohol and cost a fortune!

I was there a couple weeks ago and thought the same thing. I got a frozen margarita in Italy for $10 and barely felt buzzed.

Why delete the original post when it was copied?

seriously. I usually skip the booze at WDW for this reason alone.

My theory is that they're spending Other People's Money.

Or they don't have other financial obligations; i.e. live rent free with parents, etc.

Fortunately they don't water down the beer ;) also la cava margaritas are plenty strong- as well as several other drinks- just have to know what to get!

Or they budget ahead of time- I have a mortgage and two business loans we budget our Disney trips appropriately- a day of drinking around the world is ~$100/person. It's a vacation I don't mind splurging accordingly. I've never found Disney alcohol prices to be much off what I'd pay in like chicago or at a football game/concert. Granted they're way more expensive than what I'd pay at a local bar but I'm at Disney I expect to pay more.

My problem is with what happened on the boat going back to the Dolphin. Two groups of drunk people singing loudly. Once on the crammed boat and the lights went out, screaming, stomping, yelling, laughing. We got out at the next stop.

Oh yeah, the drunk woman that put her hands on me to get a better view of Illuminations.

I'm not understanding how walking with a cup if beer is bothersome? If people are drinking but not harming others and enjoying their vacation, so be it. I had drinks in Epcot, really enjoyed food and wine. A few ppl were seeming tipsy but harmless. I see ppl who aren't drinking being obnoxious as well. I spend my own money, I'm an adult with a job as is dh. We have money for vacation. As matter of fact, dh got a 3 pack if SAMs gift cards from me for his bday, specifically to spend at F&Wf

I find WDW drink prices to be about the same as what I pay for a drink at home. YMMV.

I agree about people getting trashed (which I honestly haven't seen- I guess I'm lucky), but walking around with a beer is totally acceptable. Remember, much like myself, for lots of people this is a hard earned, rare vacation- and I like the idea of being able to enjoy a few drinks while wandering around the parks with my family, especially since neither my husband or I will be driving. I know there are people that abuse this and go overboard- but most people I think would agree that is a major benefit! I can't wait for a grey goose slushie and illuminations next week!

Very true.

But, it's about perception. What one person thinks they see might not actually be happening. I was at the Food & Wine Festival a few years ago. I had just entered Epcot and had a glass of wine in my hand. I had one sip. My shoelace became untied and I stepped on it and stumbled a bit. A woman walking behind me, who didn't know me, hadn't ever seen me before, yelled out "STUPID DRUNKEN *****!!!!!" then pushed her way around my husband and walked on.

So, in her mind, I was a drunken fool at the Food & Wine Festival because my shoe had become untied.
