Drinking At Work - Should I Confess?

Let me explain. My workplace is very relaxed about this. My boss will sometimes mix margaritas and hand them out to all of us. She keeps tequila and margarita mix in the fridge.

So here's the deal, I am on large doses of steriods right now for reasons that would take too long to explain. However, they are making me very restless and anxious today. I felt earlier like I was going to climb the walls. So, in an effort to calm myself down, I got just a little tequila in the bottom of a dixie cup and drank it.

Well, a few minutes later my boss comes out of her office and starts talking about the great margaritas she had over the weekend. So, I'm wondering if she smelled the tequila or what. Now, I'm trying to figure out if I should go in and explain myself to her or leave it alone.

I know she won't be mad but I don't know if I should say anything.

Does Tequila make you paranoid? Or is it the steroids? :goodvibes

Don't sweat it - she probably just had good margaritas this weekend.

I think I'd get a better story first, like you tripped over the carpet and grabbed the bottle to steady yourself and the cap accidently came off and some spilled in your mouth:confused3 :rotfl:

I wouldn't sweat it.

I hate steroids. I am sorry that you have to be on them. They just make me feel all-around horrible every time I'm on them. I just finished up a round of them this past week and my body is still aching from it.

I hope that you feel better soon! :flower3:

Seriously, drinking at work is not cool... it's one thing if your boss initiates it and it's a social thing, it's a whole other ballgame to be sneaking it in a dixie cup, by yourself!

biscuitsmom, you should talk to someone, your Dr. etc...

Hope your Boss didn't realize what was going on and everything is okay at your work.. good luck.

Thanks. I take 10 mg of prednisone daily to help control my RA. I had an infusion of Rituxan a few days ago and they give you an IV steriod injection before that to keep you from having an allergic reation. So, I'm kind of double dosed at the moment.

Hopefully the Rituxan will work and I can wean myself to a lower dose. I'm tired of living with the "H's" - Hot, Hairy, and Hungry.

I'm not a drinker, really. The last alcohol I had was a glass of wine at the Christmas Party.

Why do you feel that she should talk to someone? I don't think that this is evidence of a drinking problem if this is where you were going? :confused3

Biscuitsmom - I don't think it's that big a deal. If it would ease your mind you could tell her about the steriods and the feelings you have. She may tell you to take a sip from the tequila in the fridge on her own!! I think given the circumstance you are fine ... however in the future maybe keep a bottle under the driverseat of your car and just have it on breaks! J/K!!

We often hang out at the water cooler/keg and tell tales of lost loves and conquests.

So drinking at work...:thumbsup2

yes, it does sound like a problem to me.

Mixing liquor with prescribed meds, stealing liquor (that doesn't belong to you) at work, during the day, from your boss? ... sorry it sounds like she might need some help.

:scared1:

I told the office manager. She laughed at me for worrying about it. She said the boss would be more upset about me taking a swig of her precious Petron (sp?) than me drinking it at work.

As for mixing alcohol with prescription meds, I actually did ask my rheumatologist about it before my birthday last year. She said I could have one drink - but only one and only if my liver counts were consistently normal (which they are). I rarely drink anyway. Like I said before, the last alcohol I had was a single glass of wine at the Christmas party. That was only because my boss basically shoved it at me.

It might be worth noting that I work at a small law firm. They actually asked me at my job interview if I would be bothered by them drinking during work. The main thing I want to avoid is the appearance that I was "sneaking" or being underhanded about it. I didn't make an announcement, but I wasn't trying to hide it either.

I just went through steroid psychosis in Nov.
I thought I was going out of my mind and my head was going to explode.:scared:

I wouldn't worry about it since your workplace is so lax concerning alcohol. Funny that they asked you that question during your interview. :rotfl:

Weird about prednisone--it has no effect on my mood. Maybe it's because I'm perimenopausal and always in a bad mood ;) , but it's never made me moody, edgy, etc. I was surprised.

Thats what I admire about you...You're ALWAYS THINKIN!:hippie:

I would keep my mouth shut! hiccup!:cool2:

I would just let it go.......

Some days I wish I had a bottle of Stoli under the desk:lmao:

I'm still wondering why so many people think it's ok to drink at work. :confused3

If you are having issues with meds, why wouldn't you call your doctor instead of drinking tequila?
