Drinking around WS with allergies?

You know, I can't recall a thread discussing this and I couldn't find anything when I searched so I figured I'll just ask.

I'm gluten and milk free and for the most part peanut and sesame free as well though I don't worry about cross contamination on these. I've never tried any of the famous drinks around the WS. Well, we're finally staying at a Crescent Lake resort so I figure it's the perfect time to try some. Unfortunately, I don't know which ones are safe. I will email special diets when I get home but I'm hoping that some of you might have some experience. Does anybody know if any of those famous drinks from around the WS are gluten and milk free? I'm thinking primarily about slushi drinks from Mexico and France but I'm also open to suggestions of other frozen drinks.

Thank you!!

Here's a little something I just figured out for myself. Grey Goose vodka is made from wheat. Even though it is distilled meaning it should be gluten free, it is still wheat and I suspect I react to other components of wheat besides just gluten plus I have no idea how they'd prevent cross contamination of undistilled wheat from getting back into the final product when there's wheat everywhere so the Grey Goose Slushies will be a resounding no. That stinks since that one was at the top of my list.

At home I drink only real potato vodka (my preference is Chopin) on the rare occasion that I do drink. It doesn't seem right that they can call these drinks vodka when they're made from grains and not potatoes.

This is one of the few allergy questions I can't answer-I don't drink (although with the way my week is going I may start:lmao:). I would love to know if special diets is able to provide you a list since whenever I have asked for ingredients on drinks(non alchoholic), they have replied with the "ask at the location".

You sound like my DH about vodka. ;)

Drinks are something people with allergies sometimes forget can contain ingredients that may be allergic to. Lots of the fancier cocktails have shots of various liquers and flavorings. I remember a post some time ago about someone who had an allergic reaction to a cocktail. I've seen some of the cocktail recipes posted. Allears.net has some. If Special Diets can't give specifics, maybe knowing the recipe and brands used could help you plan.

Fortunately, my allergic kids are too young to drink, but it's definitely something to educate them about as they get older.

livndisney, you were right. Here's the response I got.

We unfortunately do not have specific ingredient listings for the drinks served around World Showcase. We suggest that you speak directly with the chefs when you arrive to get the most accurate information and
ensure your safety during your visit.

hildarumpole, there's no other way to think about vodka. :thumbsup2

Just a note...I had a massive reaction to a drink made for me at the Pop Century pool bar (only time I've ever had a trouble at WDW). And I know it wasn't anything in the drink itself, so I was wondering about cross contamination in the blender, since the pool bars make all kinds of drinks. All that is to say, that might be something worth considering.

Needless to say, I've stuck to wine since then. Although I did have a safe sangria at a restaurant.

Mary, that's great advice. Cross contamination is definitely an issue. We found out by accident that 50s PTC no longer has dedicated allergy milk shake machines so those are now off limits for us (both girls luckily only had minor GI upset but still very frustrating). I was glad to hear a few days ago from the chef at Sci-Fi that they do still have a dedicated allergy milkshake machine. I think at the kiosks in the WS though that the frozen drinks are made in the large machines that they're served from which are dedicated to those drinks though I'll definitely confirm. I can't imagine that there wouldn't be at least one Margharita that I can drink but I'll definitely go over it with the manager before ordering. I'll definitely be extra careful at our resort.

Thanks again for the important reminder.

Just a note about wines. Not all wines are safe. I rarely drink wine so I don't know much about this but from what I've read, some companies use wheat in some way in the sealing of their casks resulting in cross contamination.

You might be able to have the Grand Marnier slushies they sell from a cart in France. Deee-lish!

DVCDawn :tink:

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately there's just something about Grand Marnier that makes me feel really sick when I just smell it. Poor DH loves the stuff but he can't kill me after drinking it unless he brushes his teeth and gargles first because the smell of it just makes me feel like I'm going to be sick. It's weird because I love most things orange.

I'm crossing my fingers that at least some margharitas in Mexico will be safe. I'll report back on what drinks I do end up asking about.

He can't kill you until after he brushes his teeth? Have you been using Sue's iphone? LOL;)

OMG that's too funny!! I wish I could use Sue's iphone as an excuse. Geez, those letters aren't even the same hand and I'm a touch typist using a full sized ergonomic keyboard. How did I manage that one?

Just to be sure everybody understands, DH can't KISS me after drinking GM.

Hide his tooth brush and you should be fine.:lmao::lmao:

For some reason that just cracked me up this morning! LOL
