Can anyone give me some tips about drinking around the world. We are staying on site and thought we would try and share a drink between us for each one, as we don't have to worry about driving. Also where would be a nice place for dinner. Party of 4 2 adults and DS 14 and DD12.

OK folks, some of you have tried this before.

We are going without kids and want to relax and enjoy a trip around the world. Any suggestions or stories about drinking around the world? We are planning a lunch at Le Cellier and then its around the world.

I will be glad to throw my $.02 in on this one. My DW and I have done 'Drinks Around the World' a few times and had fun most of the time.

The biggest mistakes we made the first couple of times we did it was we were new to WDW and in full on commando mode so it was a challenge to get it done as quickly as we could and move on to the next thing. What happened those times were we ended up back at The Boardwalk for a few hour nap before heading back out causing us to miss out on a big chuck of our day.

Learning from those trips we then had what we feel was a nice relaxing 'DAtW' adventure where we took our time to enjoy our adult beverages and even skipped some countries because we weren't finished with what we had in our hands yet and came back around on the next pass. That turned out to be a much better option that didn't send us back to the room for naps.

These days we don't even try to hit them all but rather enjoy the day and stop 'often' for a drink in whatever country we are in. We do however like to save the UK for the end of the night. We pick up the half yard of beer and go find a nice spot to camp out for Illuminations and do a little people watching.

We have been talking about doing a 'Drinks Around the Resorts' one trip soon. Start some time in the late afternoon and hit as many of the resorts as we can before ending up at the Poly to watch the fireworks at the MK. Of course this will be easy for the monorail resorts but would require a cab for the rest.

We did it on Mothers Day in 05 and had a great time mainly because we were forced to slow down and smell the roses, so to speak. We just enjoyed Epcot and each other's company.

DH and I usually split something, though I did get a glass of wine several places and DMom and I shared wine flight samplers at several countries. DH is a beer guy only, what can I say?

We didn't just drink through; we snacked, too. Something has to soak up all that alcohol! Our goal was to taste and drink something from each country. We came close but didn't hit them all. There came a point at which we were ready to hurl so we backed off.

We skipped USA, who wants a Sam Adams while at WDW? Ick. We skipped Japan because we just couldn't stomach anything else at that point but I bought a saki set and saki to take home. I figure that counts for something.

What we did...

Mexico = nachos and beer
Norway = pastries and a beer
China = beer, wine, and eggrolls
Germany = pretzel and beer
Italy = wine tasting
America = nothing
Japan = bought saki for home
Morocco = beer and split 2 combo plates between us for dinner
France = wine testing, beer, pastries and cheese plate (can you tell this was early in our adventure?)
UK = fish and chips, beer
Canada = couldn't find anything to taste. They didn't have a quick service beer/food joint though I'm told you can order a thing of cheese soup to go.

This got very expensive, very fast! Course the best way to do this is at F&WF (which we went back for that same year) but this was still a great adventure.

If you DATW, be sure not to miss the night time spectacular: Inebri-anations :teeth:

you havent drunk around the world unless you've included the frozen rum n cokes by the african trade shop blowing the cold mist... everyone forgets that.. finish your night or trip with the mexican cantina with nachos and margaritas just before the laser show.. we get there about an hour early..

Now that's just funny!! :rotfl2: :lmao: :lmao:

I can't wait to see it in October!

Thank you all for your ideas and stories.

So, doing it fast leads to drunk and tired. Sharing could be a good thing. Eat tasty treats to go along with the adult beverages. Expect to take a taxi back the hotel if it isnt within walking distance. LOL :cool1:

Any more ideas or stories? We are really looking forward to a calm, fun, adult day at Epcot!

Our routine (it's only DH and I) is to start off with breakfast at the hotel.

Hit Mexico first, each get a big Dos Equis with lime. We've tried some of the snack food there and agreed Taco Bell is better :rolleyes: so we don't eat there.

Off to Norway, where we share some lefsa (sp?) and get some ice water.

In China, sometimes we share a couple egg rolls...no drinking there, tho.

We don't really eat or drink in Japan, but I shop at the store with all the Hello Kitty stuff :thumbsup2

We do Germany, share a brat and get a couple dark beers (whatever's in "season").

We do generally get a Sam Adams, but not always. Sometimes we'll share a funnel cake.

Morocco, we always share a lamb sandwich...yum!

Italy we don't eat at and we only drink there if we're doing wine instead of beer.

England we each get a black & tan, then sit in the back where the Beatles type band plays. I'm hooked on the fish & chips over at Universal, so I save my fish & chips meals for that :)

Finally, Le Cellier for steak and La Fin du Mond (sp?), one of the strongest beers we've ever had.

We head back over to the French patisserie shop for dessert which we usually carry back to our room for later, since we're stuffed by that point.

Bon Appetite & Cheers!

A few tips from a couple of old hands at this:

1. Under no circumstances drink the Moroccan beer Casablanca. That bottle of Bud Light that's been bouncing around in your car trunk since last summer would be a better bet.

2. Try the cheese & fruit platter in the Rose & Crown, it's about $8 and well worth it. While there, Stella Artios is our favorite even though it's Belgian, or a Boddington's to keep it British. Get a brew in a traveler cup and catch the British Invasion in the gazebo out back.

3. Catch Off Kilter with a LaBatt's Blue in Canada. The 14 oz NY Strip Steak in Le Cellier is unbelievable and goes well with a Moosehead or three.

4. If you try the Margueritas sold at an outside stand near Mexico and other locations just remember, there's actually alcohol in there, much more than the taste suggests. I refer to them as the Velvet Hammer, they catch up with you fast and hard.

Enjoy,
