Drinking (alcohol) etiquette question.

Unfortunately (in my opinion) drinking is WAY too approved in Wisconsin. Even for underaged kids. My son plays soccer and at away tournaments they normally have coolers of beer - for the kids - who are in the 16/17 year old age range. Not surprisingly, during this current HS season, at various times they've had 3 kids out for several games each because they got arrested/caught by the police with it. :sad2: My son doesn't drink and is made fun of constantly - even by the coaches.

Good for your son. I can't believe how irresponsible these people are. I wonder what their excuse will be when one of these lovely kids kill somebody. I hope they go to jail. And by the way I am German and also Irish, and guess what, I don't drink. I think that is a lousy excuse for a lot of drinking going on. Marciemi, that last statement wasn't directed at you.

My daughter got engaged  Tuesday, this weekend her fiance's parents are coming from out of state to celebrate the occasion. His parents do not drink, and do not think anyone else should either. When we have visited them in the past we have respected their view and have not drank while with them. We are having a small party at our house, all of our friends drink, but we are by no means crazy, falling down drunks lol. We would like to have alcohol at the party. Is this OK since it is at our house? FYI: we will be having alcohol at the wedding, a wedding in Wisconsin is not complete without it. :) We did buy sparkling grape juice so we can all toast the happy couple.

Your home your rules. As adults I hope they will understand just as you did when you visited them.

My BFF had this issue with her wedding & this is what they did...
His parents do not drink or approve of drinking so being his parents hosted the engagement dinner at O'Hana's there were no cocktails & we all understood that.
The wedding the next day was paid for by the bride's family so there was drinking. Something that worked out really well was the wait staff was advised prior to the reception which tables were "non-drinking" so the guests wouldn't be uncomfortable & asked if they wanted "cocktails".

Congratulations on your daughter's engagement.:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc

I'm Polish, so no worries (well, except for all those jokes!). ;)

Yeah, after the last two 16 year olds got caught drinking and driving, the coach was really dressing them down at the next practice. Said something like "Look, I don't care if you drink. That's up to you. But DRIVING?" :confused3 Somehow I had a hard time with the first part of that statement, coming from an authority figure!

I was thinking when someone said that there was a very large German population in Wisconsin that there is also a pretty large Polish population in Wisconsin, but wasn't sure I was right.
