What is the drinking age on DCL? Does it change from port to port?

21

As far as I know - it's 21 on the ship no matter what port - not sure what the drinking age is at the ports once you disembark though.

Definitely 21 on the ship.

In Nassau it is 18, I believe. Not sure about the ports on the Caribbean cruises, though.

On the Western, not sure about Grand Cayman, but Cozumel is definately 18.

On the Eastern, St. Maarten is definately 18 not sure about St. Thomas, though I would think it is 21.

A quick Google search tells me that the legal drinking age in every current DCL port is 18, even in the USVI, which surprised me. The exception, of course, is Key West, and probably Castaway Cay, as the ship's legal drinking age, as mentioned, is 21.

Did you notice that your Key to the World card has your birth year printed along the bottom? Makes it easier to check people without a photo ID, which you're not likely to be carrying to the shipboard bars and clubs.

I can confirm Señor Ferrari's research. The drinking age is 18 at all ports of call except Key West (21) and Castaway Cay (21). And the age onboard is 21 regardless of whether the ship is in port or not.

Thanks everyone. My DD will be 18 next May when we go on the Magic Western and we were curious about it.

I didn't notice that Senor - but it's been MANY years since I've been carded! :o

Just a little side note - we just got back from the RCCL Voyager, and the drinking age on that ship was 18 for beer & wine. I suppose Disney is trying to be more responsible by making their drinking age 21.

on last cruise on wonder dd was 18 we ate at palo's one nite and waiter offered dd glass of wine when i remarked to him that i thought the drinking age was 21 on cruise he asked bar tender who told him it was, waiter was obviously embarressed and explained in his country there is no drinking age and that kids buy wine at 14 to drink at supper, i told him no problem just bring some ice tea instead, and that was that also we had done ladies nite at the spa and dd was offered champagne after treatment, most of crew are from other countrys and it is perfectly normal for them to have a drink, so you just have to gently remind them on dcl age for drinking is 21 , and bring the ice tea

My DD and her DF were 18 last year when we sailed. They both had a strawberry/frozen alcoholic type drink in St. Maarten. I figured it would be something they would always remember. My DD didn't even drink all of hers ---- I think she just wanted to be able to say she did it!;)

The laws and regulations concerning consumption of alcohol in St. Martin are interesting. We spoke with several local individuals while on the island and they said that drinking laws are not strictly enforced.

The thing that prompted this conversation was the fact that we witnessed several people drinking and operating motor vehicles at the same time. When we asked about it, the consensus was that the police don't really care as long as you are careful and don't create a public disturbance.
