I'm a little confused. The DCL FAQ says that cruises that originate and return from European ports will allow 18-20 year olds to consume alcohol in the company of their parents.

However, all of the Personal Navigators show drinking age is 21 and over.

Does anyone know which is true?

Both.

The drinking age is 21 and over (that's fairly standard on most cruise lines that sail out of US ports). But, DCL allows 18-20 year olds to drink alcohol WITH A SIGNED WAIVER, allowing them to drink in the presence of their parents on the European cruises (on those cruises that both the embarkation and debarkation ports are in Europe).

Thanks. I assume Copenhagen counts as Europe?

My grand daighter was able to drink last summer with a signed waiver on our Norway cruise. She was 18 then. She hung out with the 18 to 21 crowd and managed to get a few drinks without me.

That has to be tough for all cruise lines given they tend to draw a mix of international passengers.
I know on our Disney cruise on the Magic, in the Eastern Caribbean, a man from France was having a calm, respectful discussion with Guest Services about why his children could not drink when the ship was in International Waters.
And then there is smoking. One guy......clearly from some nation with either no, or very limited smoking restrictions, rather loudly wanted to know why smoking was limited to several small areas, instead of setting up a few smoke free areas. Sounds much like the U.S 25 years ago where restaurants had smoking and no smoking areas, with no provision to prevent smoke from drifting into the non-smoking areas.
I think in his culture, that would be the norm.

Really? I didn't know this. Perhaps now I will be able to convince my 18 year old son to vacation with his boring parents again!!! :)
