I can only speak for myself, of course, but I'm not screaming for cheaper gas! I think it's too cheap, if it cost more, it would force individuals, corporations, and governments to work for better public transporation and alternitive fuels.

Too cheap??? :confused3 I'm sure they (the gas station) would look at you funny if you offered to pay more than they charged. Do you drive around looking for the most expensive gas?

I think the poster is making a point that we have a tendency not to do anything until there is some sort of crisis, especially one that affects our wallet. I do have to question the reasoning however that industry will respond to higher prices by examining cheaper energy costs. If history is any indicator, industry will just go along it's merry way and pass on any added cost to us, the consumer, unless forced to do otherwise from time to time, by the government.

D, and I am opposed to it. Not because its COULD hurt wildlife, but because this is a wildlife reserve. Its all on principal. There could be billions of dollars of gold under that, and I would still not support drilling. Theres some places you just shouldn't mess with. ANWR is one of them. JMHO.

I'm sure they would look at me like I was nuts! :) I don't go around looking for the most expensive gas, but honestly I don't go looking for the cheapest. I go to the gas station closest to my house or office, where ever I happen to be when I hit 1/4 of a tank.

You know what I mean, Charade, don't pretend you don't! You know very well I mean that if gas in general was more expensive (say along the lines of what Europe pays) that it would force individuals, corporations, and governments into looking for alternitive fuels, better public transportation, and more fuel efficiant vehicals while we're waiting for the new fuels and public transport.

. And believe me a windfall profit tax on oil companies will only raise the prices for everyone.

Hang on to your beliefs and oppose new drilling in certain areas. Just be willing to shell out more money for oil and gas because this is a problem that aint going away.

Exactly, businesses have to pass on the cost of doing business and that includes increased taxes.

OK, fine with me if we pay if it'll get the right people motivated to get more into alternative fuels.

As for the vehicle thing, I drive a small car and would gladly switch to a hybrid if I could at this point. We don't have public transportation here or I would gladly use it.

This is funny especially since reports up here is that you get a large % of your oil imports from Canada and we are apparently the second largest oil producing nation in the world. I will be back with links to support this asap.

Ok the importation part of the post is almost at the bottom of the page in this link shown on a map.

I believe we also get a healthy % from Mexico and Venezula too! It isn't just the middle-east we depend on!

17% of all your oil is imported from Canada the closest nation you import from in % is Saudi Arabia at 16%.

Past two years Canada and Mexico have been 1 and 2 swapping back and forth occasionally. The Saudis are number 3.

Gm has apparently got a protoype hydrogen fuel cell vehicle for he Canadian market not to sure when teh release date is but they also have joined forces with Diamler Chrysler and BMW in a combined effort by the 3 to produce hybrid vehicle technology and share in the resources gathered by the companies thus making it less expensive for the consumer. I have a link somewhere about that I just have to remember where I stored it LOL.

Here is one link to the GM Chrysler story.

and another with BMW joining the party.

I'm a democrat and I oppose drilling in ANWAR. I think this country needs to focus on alternative fuels and public transportation. I do not cry about gas prices at all.

I drive a manual Honda Civic and if I could buy a Prius tonight I would. Our public transportation is getting better in Los Angeles County, I use the subway as much as possible (sadly not too much) and I love the carpool lane.

Amen to that. Why can countries in South America develop an infrastructure that embraces biofuels (ethanol, biodiesel, etc) while our country steadfastly refuses to do so. I have vehicles that operate on E-85 fuel since 1998 and I have never seen a filling station where I could get that particular fuel. Ford Motor Company is patting themselves on the back in their most recent commercial stating that they are going to produce 500,000 alternate fuel vehicles in the 2006 model year. Big deal. It won't do a bit of good until our "leaders" start passing some useful legislation regarding biofuels. Sooner or later, we are going to run out of oil. We need to look to replenishable ways to feed our ever increasing energy appetite.

put a farmer back to work, build bio-vehicles, and let them have there oil.

If we didn't export 30%-40% of the oil already produced
domestically we wouldn't have to rely so stinkin' much on
the middle east. Besides, I have yet to see proposed legislation
or a guarantee from the oil companies that reserves in ANWR
would be for domestic use only.

I am for it. As for a former Alaskan, I know this is how bills are paid... people have jobs, it's excellent for our economy. I will continue supporting it in any way I can.

People who do not live in Alaska do not realize how important it is to {most} Alaskans. Try taking away whatever generates the majority of the revenue in your state... :(

So we drill, how are we getting the oil here to the US? How will drilling there specifically help us here in the US?

Most people seem to be for/against this based on whether they are rep or dem.

Shouldn't the issue be whether drilling will help our country?
