Dressing up

Obviously a family decision

Fortunately we are all more than happy to share opinions

Tights stink. No one likes them. The child equivalent of sausage casing stockings

Unless it really cools down, it will be uncomfortably warm.

Can you compromise? Cute outfit without heels and tights?

More importantly, what does your daughter want to do?

I can see the value of tights if it's cold (and yes, it does get COLD in Florida). Especially in the restaurants when they are often blasting AC even when it's chilly outside. Maybe bring a pair and let her decide based on the weather and what she is most comfortable in?

I would ditch the heels unless you're taking her to Victoria and Alberts. That would be pretty overdressed otherwise...

OP, I would check the weather just prior to going and also think about how much walking you might be doing before and after your dinner. I would also get buy-in from your 9 year old on what she would most prefer wearing. If you can come to an agreement on what you both think would work best for the meals, I think you will both be happier. The signature restaurants at WDW (barring V&A) don't really require dressy clothes. My DS is now 12 and I typically pick out the clothes I would like to pack for the trip and then I go through everything with him to make sure I have buy-in and he feels that he will be comfortable in the clothes. Nothing worse than forcing someone to wear something they don't like or feel uncomfortable in!

Isn’t your daughter 12 and she will be wearing a nice dress, tights and 2 1/2 inch heels to V&A

do you have two daughters.

At what age do you move them up from 1 1/2 inch to 2 1/2 inch heels, is there a heel graduation ceremony, is it arbitrary
Do you ever ask Internet forums for your own heel height
Do you just like writing about little girls tights and heels.

So many questions.

I would skip the tights but a dress and pretty shoes doesn’t seem like a big ask unless your DD really hates dresses.

I had planned on Victoria and Albert's special occasion and wanted her to look nice

People still wear tights?

I absolutely would not make her wear tights or heels, ever, not just at Disney. I didn’t even wear either to my own wedding. I don’t think any of my bridesmaids wore hose. Some wore heels, but that’s their preference, and it definitely wasn’t something I asked of them. You can look nice without torturing yourself. A dress or nice pants outfit with cute, comfortable flats is perfectly acceptable for anyone, especially a child.

ETA: V&A has an age limit of 10 and up.

:confused3
I don't understand what instigated this. Dressing up from one's standard attire, especially when requested by a parent, is respectful to one's dining companions, other diners, and the venue
😂 That's a dangerous opinion to share around here.

If your daughter is 9, V&A is a no-go. In this thread you say she's 9, in the other you say 12... either way it seems there's an emphasis on heel-height. There is no standard of heels that a female has to wear, dress shoes come in such a variety it really is up to whoever is wearing them. I hate heels and always have.

You didn't say that in the original post. You said "nice dinners" V&A is it's own animal and isn't just a 'nice dinner". Still, tights and heels are not required even at V&A. Even a dress isn't required.

You still should not force anyone who can voice an opinion to wear a dress and heels. Would you want someone to force you to wear oh, a corset? Or a girdle? It is about equal to that. Children have very little control over much in their lives. What they wear should be one they get to control, within reason. Veto power should be reserved for stuff like wearing a bikini to school.

Taking this question seriously in case it's helpful to anyone, something that pops to my mind: if you and/or the other members of your party are going to dress up nicely for dinner in combination with a park day, strongly consider your options re: changing clothes in a bathroom. Seriously, you could save yourself so much discomfort. When my housemate and I did Napa Rose immediately after a day at Disneyland, we planned ahead by bringing a bag with our dresses and nice shoes and stowing it in a locker when we first arrived at the park. Then maybe an hour before the reservation we took the bag to a bathroom and changed in the stalls, so we went to dinner feeling fresh and did not get sore feet from wearing dress shoes in the park.

:rotfl: I have so many questions now too! That's pretty wild; this and that other thread are this user's only posts. How odd.

I find it amusing people saying it is unreasonable telling another person what to wear.

First off they are parents so can set standards on how they want their children to behave.

When I got out of college 30 years ago and started my first job in the corporate world, let's just say if I showed up in anything except a suit and tie, I would have had a very short career.

Plus starting in second grade, I went to a private school. While uniforms were not required, there was a dress code, thusly someone telling someone else what to wear.

If they are going back to the room to get cleaned up for dinner then it is not unreasonable to ask for something different than a ratty T-shirt to be worn to a nicer sit down restaurant

As to heals that may be a bit much, esp. if the child hasn't worn them while going out to dinner at home. My wife only wears heals maybe a 1/2 inch tall to work. When we go out to dinner she wears flats.

As to "tights". I am not sure exactly what they are. I first pictured "yoga" pants but must be mistaken.

Tights = thick panty hose, opaque not sheer

While yes OP is the parent they asked for opinions. So there must be some uncertainty on their part somewhere
