Do alot of kids "dress up" at either CRT or the Princess Storybook Dining meals? Thinking of maybe taking one of DDs princess costumes with us. Anyone done this?
Oh yes! Yes! Yes! DO take along a princess dress or two for these meals.
Let me tell you a story near and dear to my heart.
Almost 8 years ago fewer children dressed up in princess attire to go to breakfast/lunch/dinner...and then it was almost exclusively to go to "the castle". Lol...even though we do a lot of theatre in our family, I knew this would probably be the last trip our 11 year old twin girls would actually enjoy doing this...sigh...they all do grow up...so I made lunch reservations at "the castle" for our family. Elise chose to be Cinderella in blue and Valerie chose to be Aurora in pink. I altered gorgeous prom dresses to suit the characters. Lol, we still have these costumes. The girls were stunning in their dresses and crowns if I do say so myself. They, themselves were unselfconscious and just enjoying the fun of "being princesses" for a few hours.
After a wonderful lunch during which our waiter played up to them etc...the girls decided to stay in costume for a ride on Cinderella's Carousel. Later that day the girls told me that while they waited in line they overheard a little girl behind them say in awed, hushed tones to her mother, "Mommy, are those girls
real princesses?"
That tickled them immensely...and is to this day one of their favorite memories of (lots of) time spent at Disney.
After they rode the carousel we started back to our resort...as we came through the castle breezeway we saw the red, double decker English bus offering rides back to the front. In all of our many trips to Disney, never had it been convenient to take that bus, but today it was a perfect capper to a perfect day in the Magic Kingdom. We all clambered aboard right up to the open air second story of the bus...and the girls waved back to everyone all the way down mainstreet. Lol...on that day, to them, it just couldn't get any better than that.
At that time it was next to impossible to find a pretty princess dress for a pre-teen...but now that's all changed...and for the better in my opinion. Let's keep them kids...at least until they're 12!
So YES, do dress up for the princess meals...LOTS of families have their little girls do this!
I'm editing this to add...only do this if your little girl enjoys dressing up, though...if it isn't something she likes to do it could be torture for her. Although, I think it's more common for little girls to be at a character meal, see other little girls dressed up...and wish they could be dressed up also.
