Dressing "too provocatively" at Golden Corral

Actually, she didn't look much worse than what is typically seen in Orlando, not the make believe Disney area but residential areas close by.

Without researching it too far, I'd bet anything that the laws to which this is being added are EMPLOYMENT laws. Section 151B of the Massachusetts General Law is an employment discrimination law....and I stopped researching after that. :-)
How is that even supposed to work? There are tons of "physical" jobs where adequate height and fitness are necessary to perform the role. Although no specific height or weight is necessarily codified in "state, federal or industry safety standards" being too short, too heavy or having other types of physical disabilities simply precludes one from doing certain things. How can it possibly be made illegal to not hire somebody completely unsuited for the task?

When you go back maybe you'll notice the poster who said she'd tell the "low class dirtbag" to clean herself up and present herself with some class.
And you are right we all make judgments about people everyday, but there is a difference in thinking her outfit isn't flattering and thinking that because she's overweight and show some skin she's a low class dirtbag. What an elitist, nasty thing to think.
I have no problem pointing out THAT kind of judgment.
I did see that post and I agree with your opinion on it, although I didn't get your post to be specifially referring to it. I still have to believe even somebody that mean-spirited isn't going around saying stuff like that out loud. I for one am very content not to be able to see inside people's heads to know their every passing though about me...:rolleyes1

It's not appropriate for a family restaurant in my opinion....she could have made a much better choice. However, it's not so extreme as to require her removal.

I agree. The sign on the door of food places usually says "shirt and shoes required" and it is kind of only half a shirt, but I really don't think it's extreme enough to kick her out.

I agree with her that if a skinny woman or a teen would have been wearing that, there wouldn't have been a peep about the outfit.

Unfortunately, I also think that's the case.

Aside from being not an age appropriate outfit, she’s not a teen, it’s nothing that should have caused her to be thrown out of Golden Coral. The person who complained should be the one to leave. Who does she think she is? The fashion police?

To me, that's really the key part of the story. Golden Corral really shouldn't have asked someone to change clothes or leave the restaurant merely because another guest complained about them. Not without some policy to fall back on.

That's what I was thinking. Did it occur to the manager to explain to the complaining customer that threre's no dress code, and perhaps offer to re-seat that customer to a table out of sight of the "offensive clothing?"

I agree. It really bothers me that another customer can cause someone to be kicked out for their appearance.

My clothes fit thank you very much ::yes:: not sure I implied they didn't. You missed my turtleneck comment I see. Cleavage is cleavage and unless I wear a turtle neck it's going to show at least some.

As for stay inside..well that's because I told you my husband says I'm sexy everyday. Your quote was "Why would you go for "sexy" on your child's birthday trip to Chuck E Cheese? The zoo? Buffett?" I'm not trying to be sexy my husband tells me I'm sexy nearly everyday--the prior person's comment was "her husband thought looked sexy" I'm thinking my comment went over your head but that could be because you were preoccupied with other thoughts I guess.

However, I appreciate your geniune concern for my clothing..whew glad I know someone is :thumbsup2
I was referring to the woman whose clothes did not fit. The one who needed to exude sexiness on her son's birthday.

Didn't seem like that especially as you said "Stay inside? Why? Maybe just wear clothes that fit." That sounded like a direct response to my comment of saying "I guess I need stay inside at all times so I'm not perceived to be going for sexy."

You misunderstood my post. I could see how it could be confusing, though. I have never seen your style of dress. So I can't comment on it. I did however see how the sloppy, belly & boob showing woman that was (wrongfully) asked to leave the restaurant dressed. That was who I was commenting on.

Incidentally, we are in the car as I type. Heading to the zoo. Lol. Maybe we will go to Golden Corral afterwards? Just kidding. Got my fill of that place when the kids were in Scouts. Oh how the kids loved to eat at that place:crazy2:

Ahhh ok I gotcha now. Thank you for clearing it up because I did misunderstand what you were referring to :flower3:

I've only eaten at Golden Corral once not by my choice...that was enough for me lol.

I somehow got wrapped up in this lady's public Facebook. She seems like the type that has issues wherever she goes. Dramatic posts. Boobs being shown. Also, an incident in Burger King where her kid appears to be disrupting other diners. She is angry that a lady didn't think her son was cute and playful. She writes a long post dedicated to the stranger that didn't smile at her son as he interrupted her meal.

I agree with the others that say there is more to the Golden Corral story. I imagine GC apologized and moved on to keep the peace.

:rolleyes1 I don't have a facebook account so I couldn't see anything past the profile picture that popped up when I clicked the photo in the story. If it wasn't for the large tattoo I wouldn't have recognized her as the same person but suffice it to say, that profile picture kind of blows her implication in the story that she's timid and self-conscious and had to be coaxed by her husband to wear that {{dreadful}} outfit.

I gotta say I simply will never understand why people put themselves through this kind of bullcrap on social media. :sad2:

This proposed law has been kicking around for a couple of decades. Earlier versions did refer specifically to Employment. However, the newest version does not, as best I can tell. It's due up next week, actually, so I'll keep my eye out for more news about it. But here's what it says, for anyone interested.

Current:

https://malegislature.gov/Legislators/Profile/TTN1
H.3413HD.1683By Ms. Nguyen of Andover, a petition (accompanied by bill, House, No. 3413) of Tram T. Nguyen and others relative to prohibiting discrimination on the basis of height and weight. The Judiciary.

Previous (from the legislator who originally proposed it):

https://malegislature.gov/Legislators/Profile/B_R1/188/BillHistory

H.1758HD.967By Mr. Rushing of Boston, a petition (accompanied by bill, House, No. 1758) of Byron Rushing and others for legislation to make it unlawful to discriminate on the basis of height and weight in compensation or in terms, conditions or privileges of employment. Labor and Workforce Development.

This says nothing about employment:

https://malegislature.gov/Bills/191/H3413
An Act making discrimination on the basis of height and weight unlawful.
That's all it says.

Besides Chapter 151B that you mentioned (UNLAWFUL DISCRIMINATION BECAUSE OF RACE, COLOR, RELIGIOUS CREED, NATIONAL ORIGIN, ANCESTRY OR SEX), the law also is being added to Chapter 272 of the General Laws (which was further down if you kept reading), (CRIMES AGAINST CHASTITY, MORALITY, DECENCY AND GOOD ORDER ).

Sorry for big bolding, I copied and pasted.
Even looking up the chapters referred to in the proposed law, I did not see anything specific to employment.

Generally speaking, hiring managers are allowed to “discriminate” if the position being filled requires someone to be a specific sex, race, etc. For example, a casting director can put out a casting call only for Japanese women because the role is depicting a Japanese female. You also regularly see jobs with lifting requirements, but it’s not legally considered discriminatory against persons with disabilities.

So, I’m sure hiring managers would still be able to exclude persons under this protected class, if it precluded them from doing aspects of the job. No one is going to make the Celtics hire a 5’4 Center.

I think this might help answer some of your questions. **Note it is from 2007.**

I have never been to a Golden Corral! Of course, now I'm curious. :tilt:
I'd probably stick to the hot foods. :crazy2:

Stick to the hot foods before they stick to you !!!

Actually the salad bar is a good one. They have the usual iceberg and romaine, but they also have spring mix plus more than enough toppings and prepared salads. None of them are totally deluxe mind you. But the variety is nice. The drawback is the price is steep for just a salad. The other drawback is if you're not careful, you can end up making yourself a nice 10,000 calorie salad!!! HAHA. But all kidding aside there is usually something on the hot side to find because the variety is again quite nice. Again, expect ribs to be baked with sauce, not truly smoked. Expect the same type of bourbon chicken, Orange Chicken, Fried rice, noodles you can find at a mall food court. They do have pot roast and both baked and fried chicken. Expect lots of canned stuff although some of the veg is fresh. Oh and as with most buffets, don't go when it isn't busy. The quality can vary by location. I won't step foot in the one near me but several I've been to on the road are a decent lunch stop (prices are cheaper but you don't get the grilled steaks or the featured items.) All in all it's not in general as bad as I when I'm joking or others here make it out to be. But don't expect anything other than plain ole food. And again don't go when it isn't busy. There are some terrible locations. But there are tells there. If you go by and look during prime eating time and the lot is sparse with cars every time, you might have a bad location on your hands.

Thanks for the review! I looked it up and the only one in my state is several hours away. And the ones in Orlando don't seem to be too appealing, from what I've heard. I'll have to wait until I come across one somewhere else, and hope that it's a good one! :lmao:
