I am starting to think about what to pack (yes, for a trip that's 4 1/2 months away...:rolleyes1) and am not really sure what the weather will be like when we are there. I can imagine it's still warm so I am debating buying a few maxi dresses to wear at the parks since I really don't like shorts and I don't think pants would be good if it's hot. Are there any drawbacks to wearing maxi dresses?

Would like to hear opinions...especially from those who hate shorts as much as I do :p

Its hot in October but you could probably get away with wearing light pants. We went just this past october. DH and I are hot natured people and we both wore jeans for most of the trip.

I wore lightweight capris for most of our October trip. It was still pretty hot, but the only day I really wished I had worn something else was our AK day. I think maxi dresses would be OK as long as you're careful getting in and out of rides.0

Yes luckily they are loooooong :) No accidental flashes!

The only problem with wearing any kind of dress or skirt is if your thighs touch. Chaffed thighs is no fun with that amount of walking.

Hmm, hadn't thought of that. Maybe I will save it for AK which is our last park day and I suspect we will only be there for half of the day.

Most of the time it's warm in October, not too hot though. Sometimes it can be on the cold side however.

So if thinking about buying clothes for warm weather, then certainly do it. But I'd also bring a pair or two of warm clothes as well. Sometimes it can be in the 70-80's during the day, then drop during the nights

Thanks I'll keep that in mind.

We live in Wisconsin though so seriously anything above 50 seems ridiculously warm after our "polar vortex" winter. :rotfl2:

I've lived here all my life, but I still find it humorous when people start bundling up once it drops below 70.

Or seeing the people go to the parks that bundle up in the morning around this time of the year. They think it's a little chilly around 8am, but don't realize that in about an hour the sun is blazing and their wishing they didn't have to carry around their hoodies lol

This morning I think we were only at like 45 degrees or so and I was in a sleeveless blouse with a sheer cover up thing over it. Felt perfect. :cool2:

We went one year in Oct. and a record cold snap came through and it dropped down in the 30's. We had to hit the gift shops and buy sweat suits and jackets. We had only carried shorts so I always carry one set of warm clothes just in case.

I'm in IL and it has been quite chilly the last few days. I tried to tell myself I was done wearing a coat til Nov but I can't do it. I'm a wimp.

We normally go sometime during the first two weeks of Oct. We have had extremely hot weather and quite cool weather. We have had hot days and cool nights - a 20 degree drop in temp at night can seem downright cold. I have learned to pack for warm and cool weather as it seem like Murphy's law always comes true - when I pack for just warm weather, a cold spell will come. If I pack for just cooler weather, temps will be at an all time high for that time of year.
I always include some jeans and a lightweight jacket (I have fleece jacket that does the trick.)

Honestly, you won't know until about a week before. I have been in October when it's been semi-warm and I've been when it's been in the mid-90s. And as others have said, it's completely possible it'll be freezing.

Good point, but can be addressed with body glide available at sporting good stores. Helps immensely with chafing. I even put it on my feet. If you are accustomed to wearing maxi dresses, you'll likely be fine, but that's too much fabric for me. I run on the hot side!

Yeah, no kidding. I think we hit 8 weeks of below freezing temps and many weeks of below zero, so FL is never cold for me. I've been there the last 2 weeks of Oct, the week before Christmas and in February and never, ever wore a jacket and only one time wore a pair of pants. Always shorts. Capris would be good as well, but I don't own those, they look weird on me. I have skinny ankles. :rotfl:

:rotfl: OMG I do this too!!! Like, as soon as I reserved our trip I was ready to pull out the suitcase and start organizing our outfits!! I feel like I'm such a dork :lmao:

We had both hot and cold last Oct. First few days we were sweating in short/tees, but by the end, we were in jeans, and I had to dig out the hoodies!!!

We were there the 2nd and 3rd weeks of October last year. Wore shorts 100% of the time. If I recall correctly, the high temp was between 80-88 every day. Pack a 'warmer' outfit jut in case, but I wouldn't expect to use it unless you are there the last week of the month.

I went the last week of October about 5 years ago, it was record highs in the 90's.

I always wear skirts (old navy fold over skirt) or sun dresses. I dont have a leg chafing issue. No problem flashing anyone, as long as you remember that your in a skirt. NBD at all, I wear skirts all of the time.
I dont wear Maxi because they slide down and I hate hiking them up(small top) and I need a strapless bra= uncomfy for me.
I am going in oct too. I will bring sweaters and carpi for nights because I am always cold, really anything under 80, I am in pants and a sweater.
