Dresses/skirts practical for girls at DL?

I'm starting to think about making some cute things for our trip in June. I was thinking about making skirts for the girls for one of the days to be worn over leggings, but I'm wondering how practical that is for an amusement park? Should I bag that and just do shirts and have them wear them with shorts/capris? Or would cute dresses/skirts be fine?

I'm also thinking about the day we do BBB. I'm planning to do that first thing in the morning so they can be dressed up all day, but I'm wondering if those big dresses will end up being a pain and getting in the way? :confused3

Am I overthinking this? (It wouldn't be the first time!! lol!) Help!

When we went to Disney World last January, my girls wore their princess dresses all day the day we did lunch at the castle. They didn't have trouble getting on any of the rides, etc. and loved the special attention they got.

Hi!

My two granddaughters :lovestruc:lovestruc wear skirts and dresses over leggings every time they go to Disneyland, which is often. They never have had an issue, and they look great. (They are 6 years old).

Have fun!!

Cathy

I think with leggings they will be good temperature wise.

But will they want to go on the slides at Redwood Creek Challenge?

I wore skirts myself (as an adult) last time we went and it wasn't a problem. The only ride I had issues on was screamin, where I had to hold it down for part of it, but that wasn't a big deal.

Thanks, everybody!! I'll start planning out what I'm going to do then! I'm not a great seamstress, so it will be pretty limited, but I think it will still be fun!

skiingfast- I'm not sure what Redwood Creek Challenge is, but maybe we'll just make sure we plan that for a day that they are in pants.

Thanks again!

My girls wear skirts and dresses at DL in the summer months, they just wear shorts under just in case.

Redwood Creek Challenge is an area in DCA that's full of climbing walls, slides, rope bridges, and other fun stuff like that. :) My girls had no issues doing the challenges in their skirts or dresses. With shorts or leggings underneath they will be fine. :)

And remember, back in the day - virtually ALL girls wore skirts or dresses (with no shorts or slacks underneath!!) on every ride! LOL.

I have a picture of myself bounding off the jungle boat in a shirtwaist dress and short white socks. Age 11.

ive seen park guests in skirts and dressess... its up to you what you like to wear!

Redwood Creek Challenge is like a ginormous obstacle course. Ropes, slides, ladders, etc..... Very active.

If you are making skirts and shirts, I would say you are a pretty talented seamstress! Would love to see them when you're done. :goodvibes

I don't think it's quite as prevelant to wear "customs" at Disneyland as it is at WDW.....but so long as your kids are comfortable in the clothes and you aren't going to panic about every move they make in them (sorry, I still recall the poor little girl in the very cute, but apparently very expensive costume that Mom kept harranging the poor girl not to climb on this, don't sit there, don't do ANYTHING that might get a speck on that expensive costume).

If you're looking for ideas....the Family Board has a very very active group that sew for their kids...Disbotiquers they call themselves. Here's a link to the most current thread.... it's part 23....the other theads can also be accessed to see even more ideas. Everything from just decorating a T-Shirt with an iron on or applique to all out customized very complicated and time consuming outfits, lol.

Oh...and be sure to also check out the Creative Boards for designs for those iron ons (and about a zillion other things to take along with you!).

Thanks again, all!! I'm going to get through Christmas and then I'll start really planning what we are going to do. I don't think I'll make something for every day, but I will do a skirt or two and then find some fun appliques to put on t-shirts. Once I actually start doing them, I'll post pictures! :)

DD5 wore dresses/skirts over capri leggings or knit shorts almost every day when we were there last August. A dress with leggings or shorts is her preferred uniform of choice! ;)

My granddaughter also. I have rarely even seen her in pants. Put shorts underneath and she is good to go for anything.
