Dresses on Rides

A bit of a practical question here...

Are there rides that would be difficult/impossible to ride whilst wearing a long dress/skirt?
Are there any that would be unwise to ride in a shorter skirt?

I can think at some at parks I've visited over here, but thought I'd check with the experts before I do any clothes shopping for WDW!

Good question. I am interested as well since my DD14 and I will be "disbounding" in Sept and for the first time ever, I will be wearing dreses (casual, of course) to WDW. Previously it had been shorts all the way, so I never noted whether rides are conducive to dresses or not.

I wear shorts under my short dresses. I've never had any problems on rides!

But then again, with shorts on, I don't need to worry about flashing anyone.

The only rides I had a little trouble were Astro Orbiter and Space Mountain at MK and Dragon Challenge at Island Of Adventure. I did not rode Splash Mountain though, it was closed while I was there. It might be the most challenging one, together with Space Mountain, because how you enter the ride log.

I've had to be a bit careful on Space Mountain in a short skirt. The lap bar comes down in front of you and you have to spread your legs a bit. Oopsy! ;)

I'd say Space Mountain is the only thing I had any issues with last year. It was certainly possible, but I was wearing a knee length full skirt. I'm not sure I would've been happy/comfortable in something short or tight and definitely not happy/comfortable in something short AND tight.

I wear either a dress or a skirt 90% of the time I'm at Disney, never had an issue ... even when chasing three kids 4 and under.

I also wear shorts underneath but recall having a brief moment with a loose dress on a windy day while being on the outside part of Test Track. Good luck :)

Last October at the MNSSHP I was Minnie Mouse and wore a shorter dress. I wore a pair of nylon shorts underneath and was able to ride everything without worrying...even Space Mt.

I wore dresses at Epcot and Magic Kingdom and didn't have any problems. They were both just below the knee though, I do agree Space Mountain could be a bit of a problem with a short/tight skirt/dress. Tower of Terror could cause issues too. I wasn't wearing a dress that day but I know the bag in my lap went up to my face...seems like a skirt/dress could come flying up too?

I wear jean skirts all the time to the parks - less chaffing from shorts :) Only thing I have trouble getting in is Space Mountain but if you get in careful it will be fine.

For all of you skirt wearers: I LOVE LOVE LOVE wearing skirts in the warmer weather. BUT, I hate the chaffing. I am only 15lbs overweight, but it is enough.

Have any of you ever used Body Glide? I saw it recommended, and wondered if it actually works?

Yes! This is what DD and I do as well. I don't think I would get anything too long, that could get cumbersome.

I am an avid summer skirt wearer. My motto: more comfy than sweats, and publicly acceptable! I've never used body glide, but usually a little powder does the trick for me. What is body glide? It sounds "adult" hahaha!!

I don't think I even brought shorts/pants on my last probably 5 or probably more trips. As others have mentioned, on SM you have to try a tiny bit to be lady like, but its seriously easy. I wear those boyshort/hipster style underneath so no matter what, no one gets a show:)

As a person who wears sundresses/skirts in the parks quite a bit (disneybounding mainly lol) I'd say be careful on:
-Rock n Rollercoaster
-Space Mtn

And that's about it, getting in and our of Splash would also be a bit difficult as you're stepping down.

However I HIGHLY recommend getting a pair of tight bike shorts (spankies to all the cheerleaders out there lol) and wearing those underneath any skirts/dresses. It provides relief from any chafing, as well as protection against any wardrobe mishaps you might have during the trip!:cheer2:

I wear long sundresses or long skirts and tanks on every trip and have never had a problem. It's actually a lot cooler with the heat than shorts/capris/jeans.

When I lived in Orlando I wore skirts and dresses to the parks way more than pants or shorts!
Granted, I always wear black spandex shorts underneath just because I feel more comfortable and secure that way. I definitely recommend that if you're concerned!

Great. Ordered a couple of pairs of cycle shorts, which should be helpful with my knee length skirts (they're quite flowy).

I have a lovely long dress I'd quite like to wear when we go to Le Cellier. It couldn't be worn on a ride with a restraint that fastens between the legs- there's nothing like that at Epcot, is there?

I've worn shorter (knee length or slightly higher) skirts and dresses to Disney and not had any problems--but they were all very loose fitting and made of soft fabric--I wouldn't go wearing a pencil skirt or anything.

My favorite thing to wear to the parks though are skorts from athleta. I have a Whatever, a Wherever and a Wearabout. Love them all but find that the Whatever and Wearabout both run HUGE.
