Anyone dresses up as HP characters when you go? We are planning our first trip. My girls (9 and 11) are huge HP fans.

thanks,

wilkeliza has soon good advise...they are too hot on many days, in the middle of the day...early morning can even be miserable some days. After sunset, they can be quite comfortable.

We were there this past weekend. Quite a few children AND adults were wearing robes, and many (maybe even more than half) were wearing HP T-shirts or socks or other gear. One woman had a Marauder's Map dress! Lots of people carry wands as well.

I also agree that the robes would be uncomfortable in warm weather. I noticed one adult couple donning their robes as they entered the HP area. They brought them in their backpacks. I think that would be a good idea for comfort and to keep the robes nice. I saw in the gift shops that they can be quite expensive!

I'm not sure about truly dressing like characters, but people do put on their wizard finery.

The official robes are spendy but they are fabulous and they last.

When I was there in January, aside from the many people in robes and whatnot, there was a family of 4 that really went all out.

The parents were dressed up as the Weasley parents and the teen kids were dressed up as Hermione and Serius Black. Their outfits were fantastic!

I realize it was a unique weekend but there were LOADS dressed up over the Potter Celebration weekend. I'd have to say we saw every single character from each movie represented at one point or another.
Except maybe a House Elf. I don't think we saw anyone dressed as a House Elf. But the others, yep. It was fun.

Just a quick tack-on question to this thread: A couple of you have mentioned the house robes they sell on-site. Are they good quality? Are they the same ones that are sold on the Universal website?

We are taking DS next year for the celebration weekend and he is in desperate need of a new robe, but I want to make sure it is a good robe that he can continue to use, not just the cheaply made halloween costume version.

Thanks everyone!

I haven't seen the ones sold on the website but they ones in the parks are very nice. They were perfect for Potter weekend as it ended up being pretty chilly. Can't fathom wearing it in the summer though.

They are AMAZING quality. My son got his at 6 years old and apart from the fact that it goes up to his knees (probably above his knees now) it actually still fits his shoulders and it looks very nice (from the waist up lol). He loaned it to an 8 year old friend who wore it to 6 Halloween parties and the only thing that made it less than perfect was that he played outside in it and got it a bit muddy. But plenty of people have said you can machine wash it in cold!

Apart from Legos it's the best and longest-lasting thing we have bought him for about $100!

His is XXXS. If he wants to get a new one someday I can't wait to see what size he needs. :) By the time he needs another one he'll be an adult and can spend his own money on it LOL.

Absolutely agree........

They are fantastic quality........ones I bought for God children and friends kids are all going strong after years......

Well worth the money.

My DD's robe is beautiful. I was very surprised by how good the quality is. She wears it around the house all the time. And she is totally excited to wear it again at Universal Hollywood in a few weeks :)

I agree they are great quality! My dd has worn hers many times including Halloween. She also loves that it has a wand pocket :)

That's wonderful news! I don't mind spending $100 on one if it will last a few years.

Did any of you order your robes from the Universal website or did you buy them at Universal?

Thanks for the reviews everyone!

I think park of the fun for my DD was trying on a few in the store at Universal and having the shop keeper help too. Also, there are so many sizes! My DD had to try on a few just to figure out her size!

Also-
"Inside of Madam Malkin's Robes For All Occasions (where you can buy your very own Hogwarts school uniforms!!) there's a giant standing mirror which will actually talk to you when you stand in front of it to try things on. Warning: sometimes she's not the *nicest*. She might school you on your fashion sense, or you might get lucky and receive a compliment!"

I'm in my twenties, and I still wear my full Hogwarts uniform, vest, button up, tie, and all.

Yes! Granddaughter brought her Hogwarts robe and necktie which was her Halloween costume and wore it both days. Bring a tote bag in case it gets hot outside or you are riding a water ride and don't want to get it wet.

We bought them onsite, but I'm 99.99% sure that the ones at UO dot com's merchandise shop are the same ones. If you might be buying an AP that gives you discounts, though, you might consider waiting until you get there!
