Are there any nights on the 3 day cruise where my husband would have to wear anything more than dockers and a nice shirt? MY 13 yr. old son is planning on wearing "cargo" type pant with t-shirts...any suggestions?

At Triton's, suggested dress is "<I>Jacket recommended, no shorts or jeans</I>." Many men <I>don't</I> wear a jacket, but the atmosphere in Triton's is on the formal side, so depending on who your tablemates are, it might be more appropriate. If you go to Palo, your DH really <I>should</I> wear a jacket. I've seen people there (yes, even on the 3-day) with everything from casual to <I>very formal</I>. This thread may start another "What to wear" debate. DCL's recommendations (their "requests") are clearly stated in their brochure, on their website, and in the daily Navigators.

Yes. Triton's is the Wonder's equivalent to Lumiere's on the Magic. It is the dressiest/most formal other than Palo.

This is one of the few times you can force your kids and hubby to dress up. I would take advantage of it. They will look so nice for the pix.

<B>danbarbara</B> - When are you cruising? I seem to recall you posting about the Oct. 31st 2002 Wonder some time ago. Are you still on that one? We have a <B><a href="http://www.primateprojections.com/travel/DISlist.html">Halloween Wonder DIS List</A></B> page. It lists the DISers, kid's ages, plus there's a list at the bottom of those attending Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party prior to the cruise. So if you are still on that one, you might want to check it out. Many of us plan to get together for a Halloween Eve group DISer photo in costume.

Thanks for the invite!!! We are still on that cruise. My daughter (8) will be dressing up but not myself, husband or son(13)...will check out that site...Barbara

I am a little concerned because we are supposed to fly in via US Air the night prior...so hopefully all will work out!

Great! Take a look at the <B><a href="http://www.primateprojections.com/travel/DISlist.html">Halloween Wonder DIS List</A></B> and PM me if you want me to add you to our list. It makes it easier to keep track of similar-aged kids and I'll be updating as needed. Also, check out our thread <B><a href="http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=219949&perpage=15&pagenumber=1">HERE</A></B>.

Did you know that you are listed on the DIS Unofficial Cruise List for the Oct. 26th 2002 7 Night Western Magic? That was what confused me! ;)

both my husband and son wore dockers and a polo shirt every night including at tritons and that was perfectly fine on the 3 day cruise...
there were people more dressed up and poeple who were less dressy....
wear what you want to wear...

DCL (particularly the 3-day cruises) seems to be a "wear whatever you are comfortable in" atmosphere, even in Tritons. Hubby and I like to dress up on the cruise, as we rarely wear formalwear at home. Often we are the most dressy people at our table...we have even had tablemates in jeans. We don't let what others wear bother us. It's their vacation, so they can do what they please...I know that Disney has guidelines, but I think that people equate the Disney name with "casual" and that seems to supersede the guidelines in many cases. At Palo, most people do go very dressy, but I have seen jeans there too. That is the only place where really casual dress bothers me, as I think it should be something special, and it is well worth dressing up for.

Yes, it's true that, in the end, everyone wears whatever <I>they</I> choose. I was responding according to what is <I>requested</I> by DCL. <I>Any</I> "what to wear" topic usually launches a debate. Triton's is a <I>nice</I> restaurant with a <I>nice</I> atmosphere, so I would feel out of place being <I>too</I> casual. However, I don't dress <I>formally</I>. I wear a dress that I would feel comfortable with in any <I>nice</I> restaurant. But since the cruise in question is the Halloween cruise, I am likely to have Triton's on Halloween night. In that case, I <I>may</I> wear my Halloween costume! And danbarbara, if you end up with TAP rotation and choose not to do Palo, you won't need a jacket anyway (unless the AC freezes you!).

oh wait...my husband wore chinos and a nice polo shirt...
my son wore cargo pants (the kind that zip off to shorts) and a nice polo shirt (one was a nautica the other tommy hilfigger)....
but the moment dinner was over he whipped off the shirt and put on one of his disney t-shirts and headed off to common grounds...

as i said, they both looked perfectly appropriate in comparison to everyone else....

What is appropriate is in the eyes of the beholder, be it DCL or one's tablemates. :jester: No problem! To each his own! I would not be surprised if DCL does not soon eliminate the dressier request anyway and go totally "theme park" casual style. If they start recommending "shorts or jeans" for dining, believe me, that's what I'll show up wearing! :p

fortunately we were at our own table...(we requested a table for 4 in advance)...

as for what they and my daugher and i were wearing...
we live in a tropical climate....our dinner attire on the ship would be considered downright dressy where we live....
on the other hand, where we live no women EVER wear shorts...EVER.....
neither do the teenaage girls...despite hellishy hot and humid temperatures...

(translation - you can always spot the tourists by the women wearing shorts...:)

I live half the time in Idaho and the other half in Daytona Beach FL. I usually wear sundresses when out in public in the hot, humid, lovely weather of Florida! I actually only <I>own</I> two pair of shorts! :teeth:

wow...idaho and daytona beach......talk about contrasting places...must keep your life interesting...

<B>disneyholic family</B> - I am married to a retired Air Force fighter pilot who chooses to stay in ID because he is involved in a lot of wildlife conservation organizations here, but also hunts, fly fishes, ski races (snow), water skis, kayaks, white water rafts, etc. - - all the things Idaho is famous for (No - All the <I>good</I> potatoes seem to end up in other states!). I travel a lot internationally as a wildlife photographer, and my TA benefits and airline relatives (sis and nephew) allow me to travel for pleasure as well. But I am <B>TRYING</B> to get DH to join me on a DCL cruise, and he says "No way." He is not into Disney and not into cruising (was transatlantic on the QE II once and that was "first and last."). Any ideas to persuade him??

Ah - forgot to clarify the Daytona Beach part. I share a home with my sis (who is divorced) there. I keep enough clothes there that I travel between ID and FL with just my purse and cameras. My mom also has a home in Daytona now (dad passed away this year). So on average I'm in FL about 5 months of the year. It's REAL convenient for spending time at WDW and going cruising! Grown nephew is doing the Halloween Wonder with me. Then I'm taking my Mom on the Nov. 10. But I still have a feeling my DH would LOVE crusing DCL if I could just get him to go with me. :earsgirl:

hmmm...taswira....i haven't a clue how to deal with people not into disney (are there really people like that????)....
my husband's willing to be anywhere as long as it's with us (my daughter, son and me)...
but he too enjoys WDW and loved the cruise....
for him the cruise was the first time in 10 years that he's been truly on vacation (albeit for only 3 days).....normally he's online/on cellphone/on beeper 24/7/365......that's not possible on the ship so he truly had to relax...totally.....i think he really enjoyed that.....plus he appreciates good service....and the service was great......
but as i said, he's an easy sell.....as long as we're going to be there, he's willing to come along.....

That's so nice, disneyholic family. True to the "family" in your DIS name! In my case, we've never had kids, and although it's a good marriage we have not vacationed together since a trip to Kauai, Hawaii years ago. My work and our varied interests make us rather independent. I did "drag" him to Disneyland about 10 years ago during the Christmas holiday season. It was "okay" to him. But really, isn't it kind of a drag to be anywhere that makes <I>you</I> happy and excited, and have someone with you who views it all as "okay"? So I've done two Disney cruises solo (happily!), have the two with grown nephew and mom coming up, and am doing the 7-day western next year. It's that one I was hoping to convince him to come on, but I only booked and paid for myself because I'm not holding my breath waiting for him! :jester:
