We are planning on going to Palo on tropical night after we go to our regular seating to be with the kids while they eat. I am assuming we will be dressed in our tropical clothes and would think that they wouldn't be appropriate for Palo. Am I correct? Do we need to change before we head to Palo or does the theme carry through to Palo?

The guidelines at Palo are "jacket recommended; no shorts or jeans please."

Sometimes on this board, people suggest that Palo is a very formal restaurant that you should wear the suit or tuxedo that you brought for formal night. That's fine, if that's what you enjoy. But it really isn't necessary.

Actually, Palo is sort of a "smart casual" place, like California Grill or Flying Fish at WDW.

In Hawaii, dressing up for dinner in a fine restaurant means dress slacks, an aloha shirt (no tie), and a summer sportcoat. Something like that would certainly work for tropical night and for Palo, especially if you're going to Palo on tropical night. Have fun, and don't worry about it too much.

I have read so many things about dressing up in Palo's that I felt the urge to interject.
On a 7-night cruise, people seem to dress up more ie.formal nights. On a 3 or 4-night cruise, from experience, it seemed more casual.
My husband wore a sport coat to Palo's due to all of the urging on the board, and it was completely unnecessary.
It's up to you. There were men every night in polo shirts and slacks, in ALL of the dining rooms.
don't stress about it, just go with the flow.

When we ate at Palo we saw men in suits, and men in sport coats with collared shirt but no tie. We also saw a few men in dress slacks, shirts and ties, but no jacket.

Even on tropical night Palo's expects you to adhere to their normal guidelines.

My husband saw a couple turned away from Palo for not being dressed appropriately btw. It was the last night of our cruise, and he had gone up to deliver a small gift to one of the servers.

The seven night is much more formal than the 3/4 night. Proper dress is expected, and at Palo's you WILL be turned away if not dressed properly.

It's no problem to stop by the cabin and make a quick change after doing dinner with the kids. I am lucky and my DH won't complain if I ask him to put a jacket on for me. Unfortunately, we will be changing again to go to the deck party. Tuesday just seems like the perfect night for Palo. Nothing on the special menu appeals to either of us so it will be easy to sit with the kids, have a drink and maybe an appetizer and when they are done head to Palo.

We did eat last year at Palo on tropical night. We also took our son to the main dining room and sat with him. We were planning on changing but out of curiosity asked our server if what we were wearing would be appropriate for Palo. Our server looked for a moment like we had belched in public and then quickly recovered and politely answered that we would be better off if we changed. We wanted to. After all I hadn't bought my expensive skirt just to sit in the closet.;) We just didn't want to look out of place if everyone up there was going to be dressed tropically. Up at Palo you couldn't even tell it was tropical night. It was business as usual and good!
