Dress for Holiday party?

I am at a new company and they are having a Holiday party in NYC. So I have to dress really nice. Some people go way out with dresses and some are just nice. I went out today and bought a really pretty teal dress (sort of like a cocktail dress and it goes a little below my knees. My 2 questions because I rarely dress up for occasions like this are:

1. what color shoes do I wear? Would I wear black or silver or something else.
2. Do you were pantyhose with this? I have seen people were them and some people who just buy a pretty sandle looking shoe.

I know I probably sound niave about how to dress but I kind of am

It depends on the accessories you're carrying. If you're going to wear black shoes, then carry black accessories, like a shawl and pocket book. Silver is very glittery and looks very chi chi for a NYC party. You can add glitz in your hair And every where if you do that.

and YES wear hose, not only does it give you a uniform skin tone, but it keeps the tummy neatly tucked and provides a skimmed line under the dress. You'll look fabulous darling.
