Dress Codes for Signature Restaurants

I am NOT trying to be controversial. I have a legit question. When did Disney stop enforcing dress codes for signature restaurants? I am not talking about shorts and a Mickey shirt. I mean attire that is on the "not allowed" list?

Maybe the question should be, did they ever enforce it? It is more of a suggestion to dress nicer than a requirement?

This is the guest that was checking in before us at Narcoossee's. Cut off shorts with stings hanging down and all. I do not understand why this is allowed in signature restaurants.

Not criticizing the guest.... more so Disney policy.

I haven't been to a signature yet but if someone wasn't aware there was a dress code (likely if they only booked on the app at the last minute and didn't look into it) I wouldn't really want them denied entry. But if dressed like in the photo and thought 'yes, this is the appropriate attire as they describe' deny away. You don't go to Disney to have privacy as they are tracking your every movement so I have no problem with the photo. Only because the restaurant is mentioned can the 'friend' identify them, assuming that is true in the first place.

First post....not likely.

My husband and I usually dress for dinner because we enjoy it. I could care less what anyone else is wearing. Except for this time....

That being said, back in September on one ungodly hot day we left Epcot to try Abracadabra. I thought I could get some appetizers. No food served.

I was starving. The bartender suggested we head next door to flying fish. Said they have a great bar where I could order apps or dinner and wine.

My husband had on nice shorts but was wearing a gray Mickey tee shirt. I was wearing nice shorts and a sleeveless shirt. We did not have on any of the "not allowed" items but I knew how formal flying fished looked so we instead we went to Trattotia al Forno. We ordered a bottle of wine and some apps. Very good but we had been there before.

Walking out later we passed flying fish. Sitting at window tables were many people dressed just like us. And some that made us looked dressed up.

Our loss. I should have known better. Now we won't get to flying fish until later this year.

Well now imagine my shock when my sister told me.....there's a picture of some ugly dressed lady going into Narcoosees.......and it's YOU!!!!!!! Yup in the picture here is lil old me starring in my very own drama. HA!!!! Now I have to say I never expect someone other than my husband will like my rear end so much they save it on their phone but hey ;) Still got it to be an exotic dancer I guess LOL

Sweetheart the next time y'all think someone is dressed ugly you just go on ahead and save their photo to laugh at them later. Imagine it might make you feel like you're dressed really fancy. ;) But a tip for you from an old lady with varicose veins LOL. Classy is as classy does and this ain't it. And if they turn me away I would have gone to my room, changed, come back. But looks like my ugly money works the same as yours. ;)

And to the defenders, thank y'all but it is not necessary, I'm a judgment free kinda gal, live and let live..... :) Sorry if my v veins ruined your dinner.. LOL

I have no idea if you are the gal in the pic or not but I enjoyed the response!

Many years ago my DH and I took a Sunday drive to nowhere. It was when we were going through a challenging time in our marraige and a ride was something out of our ordinary. Well, because a ride with no destination was pretty new for us, we started out on I91 and headed North, and wound up at Yankee Candle. It was a nice beginning, saw Chandlers Restaurant but it was not open yet. We had never been there and thought it was a touristy kind of restaurant. So, we continued sightseeing, and on our way home we stopped back in. YIKES! This was a beautiful restaurant, and we were clearly underdressed (DH had his favorite "Garage Guy" tee shirt on) so we apologized to the hostess and turned aroung. Oh no! She hauled us back in and told us we were welcomed. That day and the meal is one of my most cherished memories of our marriage. We were treated graciously and behaved in kind.

Not everyone deliberately sets out to challenge a dress code in a restaurant, so when a faux pas occurs I think that how that error is handled speaks volumes about the restaurant staff. It has only happened twice to me, and both times I have offered to leave, or to be seated out of the way. Both times I have been treated in a gracious manner.

I will say that twice in my life DH and I have been given a "once over" and did not pass muster, I guess. THe first time we were not even acknowledged and the second time we were stuck by the kitchen. Now I thought we had adhered to the code )I was in a dress and DH in casual slacks and shirt) but I guess not. We have never returned to either place, and I am not sorry to say both restaurants no longer are in business.

When did Disney stop enforcing dress codes for signature restaurants?

1) Been about 10-years.
2) The mantra came down, and management no longer cares about rules, including dress codes (except at V&A)
. . . Make this WDW guest's vacation the best WDW vacation
. . . if complaints go "uphill", the lower level manager may be facing a career change

NOTE: Ever wonder how to get what you want? Go to the Concierge and say you are "unhappy". It is vital you use that EXACT word. We are taught to eliminate "unhappy" complaints. Other gripes might get action, but using the term "unhappy" will get you immediate satisfaction. (But, you didn't hear that from me.)

This is why i like DCL (or any other lines for that matter) when it comes to dress code. Of course, there are some that doesn't understand or just don't care about others but still...

No, i don't bring my suit in WDW, but when i go to a nice restaurant for dinner, i like to be dressed up accordingly.
My above hairy pit fiasco was on DCL.

DH and I went back to the room and changed for our first dinner last year. We walked into the restaruant and realized we should have wasted the time. Our linen slacks and Tommy Bahama shirts had us overdressed. The rest of the trip we just went as we were straight from the park. More time we could play.

Pretty sure there's something no one has mentioned here... many people book a signature restaurant for the atmosphere and because it's special. (Not to mention the high price you're paying!) I think dressing down does take away from that. Yes - some people may not have been aware but for the most part, most people don't care. And by Disney not enforcing it just perpetuates people coming to dinner in shorts, bra straps and hairy arm pits showing, and baseball caps on.

Well--the shorts are perfectly fine according to the existing "code" so long as they aren't torn.

The only really enforcable part of the code is the "not permitted" list---

These threads never fail to surprise me. I just can't say that I've ever given a thought to what anyone else is wearing when I'm dining. Maybe because I rarely eat out or get to eat at a "fancy" restaurant, so I'm just enjoying the experience. Barring something so offensive that I wouldn't want my children to see it, I wouldn't likely even notice much less care.
