Do you think it is OK to wera jeans and sneakers at California Grill, Chefs de France etc? Will we feel significantly underdressed?

Chefs de France, yes, it is probably okay -- you probably won't feel underdressed. California Grill, no, it's probably not okay -- you probably will feel underdressed.

Yes to both. Jeans and sneakers are approved everywhere except V&A's and the majority of people on vacation will not be anymore dressed up than you. (assuming these are jeans in good condition and nice tennies, of course).

I looked this up and it was listed as smart casual.....I think if you are coming from the parks for dinner and were wearing your jeans and sneakers from that day you will not be turned away.. Some people do dress up for this restaurant, but I have also seen people casual as well.

Actually, the dress code at California grill has recently been changed to "business casual" along with several other restaurants. We were advised while booking our upcoming dinner at Artist Point that "business casual" dress was expected there, as ewll.

Disney's definition of business casual includes jeans, dress shorts and tennis shoes.

How about jeans (if you have to) and nice sandals? We were just at CG in November and most people were pretty nicely attired. The ones in shorts and sneakers looked a bit out of place but I really don't mind what other people wear, as long as it is clean and in good taste. So if you feel like sneakers, go for it. Personally, I think dressing up adds to the festive evening but to each his/her own!

Well, I guess their definition has changed (or varies over time), since the CM that booked my Artist Point reservation specifically indicated no jeans. :confused3

Dress shorts are definitely okay, though. It is Florida, y'know. :sunny:

I copied this directly from the Disney site:

And no where did I find anything about how to dress for this restaurant...I would think if Disney wanted people to dress up for this restaurant and other fancy restaurants that they should indicate it on their own site. Disney is a casual place and people tend to wears shorts, sneakers and various tops...or jeans.....I wear whatever I want and go wherever I want to eat....I would dress up for Victoria and Albert, but I dress casual, business or otherwise. My husband worked for one of the biggest mutual funds in Boston, they wore jeans sometimes and other times collar shirts and khaki pants type of thing, sneakers or docksiders...

I can see how the restaurants located inside the *resorts* can get away with dictating a particular dress code, but inside EPCOT it would be rather hard...guests are at a "theme park" afterall and it would be most difficult to return to their hotel room and change for dinner. In fact, DH and I'd have to drive back home to change before returning for dinner! :earseek:

That's not a good assumption, unfortunately. Disney's own web site seems to be controlled by the folks responsible for selling Disney service, not those responsible for interacting with guests.

When I made our ADR for CA Grill last week I was told Business Casual. I asked what their definition of business casual was and was told this: No jeans, no cut offs, no flip flops, no tank tops. Men need to wear a collared shirt. The cm told me shorts are okay but we won't see many people wearing them. I asked this for my son who has some nice khaki shorts but all of his nice khaki pants are too short. So a trip to gap kids fixed my problem! Never too early to make him dress nice once in awhile. ;)

Actually, when I booked I specifically asked about jeans, and they told me jeans were OK. I checked again today, and they said the same thing. So it seems the CMs are pretty inconsistent. I just hope they let my DH wear black jeans and a polo shirt. That's the best I can convince him to dress. :)

I think that will be fine. Even with the varying degrees of dress code mentioned, the bottom line is that they aren't going to kick anybody out! And you are right, cm's are inconsistent over at Disney Dining.

I can tell you from a recent October trip that jeans, shirts without collars and god forbid flip flops were allowed at CG and Narcoosees. I wore or saw them all.

If I'm told I have to wear a collared shirt I guess the places at WDW have outgrown me. As I said to my good friend Mr P. Pirate in another thread regarding this very topic, "If my $60 T-shirt is good enough, their loss."

I've said it before and I'll say it now, If you don't go looking like a slob you will be fine.

I was told about the "new" dress code when making adr's for Jiko in September. No jeans, sandals, sneakers, tank tops, blah, blah, blah. So, I went out and bought appropriate business casual outfits for DH and me. (We are jeans and t-shirt type people.) Guess nobody else got the same dress code as me. I saw everything but bathing suits in Jiko's dining room. So, I got a new outfit(yeah), but I could have saved money for souvenirs. You will be okay with a nice pair of jeans or shorts and button down or polo(golf) shirt.

It was the highlight of our trip..... Dh wore Kackis' (sp) black top... I wore jeans (nice ones, dark) ivory turtleneck.... DD's wore jeans (nice ones) black tops... all of us wore nice shoes.... black or black slip on shoes ( no sandals)...

The California Grill is beautiful... the atmosphere is elegant and lovely... Don't wear flip flops if you can help it or tank tops... We didn't see anyone wearing that... it was 8pm and COLD for Disney... the service is Supreme and the highlight is the fireworks of course and our server was Wonderful!!

If you have anymore questions, please feel free to ask

Glad you had a good time. Seems pretty clear that jeans ARE an acceptable part of the dress "code" at CG.

Always unfortunate that when people call for their ADR's ,they continue to get various "spins" on the dress code from whatever CM they happen to speak with---.

Comment on dress code at CG...
While dining at CG in August, we stuck to the recommended dress code, particularly avoiding tank tops (as dictated by the CM who took my ADR). When we arrived we were seated next to a group which included some teens in SHORT shorts(rear ends hanging out), tank tops (with their stomachs exposed), and flip flops. Now, if they're going to tell you to dress a certain way, they should enforce that "code".
I thought it was very inapproproate to have those girls dressed that way and I wish someone would have told them to change before they got on the elevator to the CG.

I am a bottom line person and someone who has gone to Disney for many years.....if Disney wants to enforce a certain dress code, hey I am all for it. But on their own site, which does sell their product, there is no mention of said dress code.

I think if the restaurant is upscale than by all means you can dress business casual, no cut-offs, no tank tops, etc., but unless Disney enforces that and by enforcing it I mean turn people away who are not appropriately attired, then you will be eating with people who are dressed in a more casual manner than you in business casual....
