Dress code relaxed for adult restaurants

The OP only made a comment that OP is not a fan of the relaxed dress code. I think that what is really missing in this thread is that the dress code is what it is and you can abide by it or skip the specialty restaurant. The only thing that is important is that DCL has determined that the dress code should be different than the dress code in the MDR. Guests may like or not like the changes the dress code and that is what the thread should be about, not whether or not a guests feels a dress code is appropriate and they should be allowed to wear what ever they want.

If a guest wants to experience the specialty restaurants when making their cruise plans than guests have a choice to abide by the dress codes of the specialty restaurants or skip them, but they should be prepared to follow the dress code and pack accordingly. I think what causes issues is not the dress code but the way the specialty restaurants don't consistently enforce their own rules which in turn causes confusion among the guests attending the specialty restaurants.

Regardless of dress code for the specialty restaurants, everyone should plan their cruise in a way that would allow them to have a good time and enjoy themselves. That is what is most important.

We ar e becoming only carryon people too and a lot of companies are making the tiny hard shell cases with packing cubes built in to allow for this
Just be careful, packing cubes make it easy to fit tons of stuff in, but the weight can explode. Some carriers and airports (mainly those overseas) will weigh carry-on where weight is limited between 12-20 pounds.

What are lifestyle shoes?
As an airliner I have to laugh at this.. HUGE topic at work.. to fly in certain classes we have a dress code and the code was very strict and simply stated "No sneakers". The thing is most nicer shoes fall under this catagory now.. for ex. the below.. these 100 dollar leather "lifestyle" shoes banned.. Nowadays people wear these kind all the time, even in an office, business ennvironment... There's a difference between sneakers that are for sport or day to day wear.

if somebody had shown up at my wedding in shorts and T shirt .I would have asked " did the airline lose your luggage".
My pet peeve and is when people wear baseball caps in the MDR at dinner.. Sorry call me judgemental and old-fashioned but it just shows lack of class. Kinda gives the MDR an olive garden vibe.

I have never seen anyone in the MDR in a swimsuit. They absolutely turn people away for that.
On Royal I saw a woman attempt to eat breakfast in her swim suit. She had a see-thru coverup but it didn't cover her black bikini bottom. The host let her in, and started escorting her and the I saw the MDR manager hunt them both down, whispered in the lady's ear and out she went. he then scolded the host for not noticing her attire ( he really couldnt because of the podium and he was walking ahead of her)

As for me--if someone WANTS to dress up, they still can. But if I don't now have to pack a dress jacket and dress shirt, that is just fine!

But the main dining room is equivalent to Olive Garden

The only rules I wished they enforced were no cologne or perfume. Nothing ruins a great meal faster than having to smell the other guests. I could care less about what others wear. I can always look away if I don't like it but you can't escape people's stench.
I couldn’t agree more. I don’t understand the mentality “let me douse myself in perfume before I go to dinner so I can make those sitting anywhere around me sick to their stomach while they try to eat” I have asked to move tables because of that. Not trying to be mean just truthful. It’s NOT pleasant.

I love this thread - fun to read :)
I had to change out of my sneakers one visit to Palo into some gross ugly shoes - my sneakers were way nicer, fashionable, more expensive and matched my outfit. The loaner shoe was from a bowling alley and seriously impacted my enjoyment at Palo. I complained as they singled me out but not other people wearing flip flops and other sneakers I saw around brunch. If you are to enforce it, then enforce it. That being said, having a dress code be enforced is so tough for the staff - I feel for them - not an easy job for sure and we should follow the rules as set forth. Now we just skip the fancy restaurants even though they are complimentary because I want to be more casual when traveling.
I agree with other posters that more and more people are wearing swimwear to dinner - saw a lot of that on our most recent cruise. And the perfume/cologne thing drives me crazy. What you wear won't necessarily impact my dining experience, but the amount of cologne and perfume some people put on their bodies definitely does. The woman next to us one night must have emptied the bottle - it made us sick and we actually asked to be moved which they did. I have a really sensitive olfactory system after a head injury 2 years ago - basically a very powerful scent can overpower my olfactory nerve and then saturate the receptors so that I only smell that while eating. Food that tastes like perfume is not to my liking :)
Disney handles the situations very well.

I've flown in international first several times now with different airlines and never have encountered a dress code..? That seems ridiculous to hold their own employees to a higher standard when you're off / just an unknown face in the crowd.

I was referring to airline employees who fly stand-by and use benefits. If you pay 10 grand ( at times more) for a first class between Frankfurt and Miami as a "revenue" passengers you can show up wearing a tank top, shorts and flip flops. Employees cannot. For first and business depending on airline can be: no jeans, sneakers, or t shirts. The airline I work for allows "dark" jeans in business and first with no rips, or others designs. basically your fancy slack like jeans.
Years ago United got bad press because they wouldnt allow a teen girl on a flight because she was wearing legging and a sport top. Online press even going how UA was racist because of her "look". but was what was not reported was this person was traveling on a buddy pass and should have been aware that UA had a dress code - even for economy.. You cant show up looking like you are going to yoga class if you are not paying regular fare.

"Better to have $500 in your purse than a empty $500 purse". I like to eat fancy but not dress fancy. You can wear jeans, no jacket and still be elegant IMO, it is just about behavior
