I made a PS today for Citrico's and was surprised to learn that they have a dress code, "nice casual"...no shorts and no sneakers.

HMMM...don't know if dh will go for it. We were planning to catch the parade at MK after and prefer to wear sneakers so we'd have to bring them with us. Hope sandals are ok, because all's dd has is sneakers and sandals and that's pretty much all I have. Dh can wear his docksiders but I know he won't be thrilled with the short thing.

Just surprised they had a dress code. Not that we're slobs, I mean dh wears nice shorts but for WDW?? I understand V&A having a dress code, well whatever.

Just wondering if anyone who has been here can tell me that you've been turned away if you have "nice" shorts on (ok shorts are shorts, but still...).

I've seen parents with families dining in nice shorts and sneakers. It's more common at the California Grill, which also has a 'smart casual' policy, but that's because the CG has those observations decks populated with a lot of non-diners.

I definitely wouldn't go in sandals however.

Don't pass up this meal! This is the best restaurant in WDW, even better than the CG.

The "smart casual" policy has been explained to me by Disney Dining as "no gym shorts, no tank tops for the men, nice Bermuda-type shorts are acceptable." Nothing has ever been mentioned about footwear, but I see people wearing nice, dressy sandals at all the upscale restaurants.

I agree with sotoalf about it being the best restaurant at WDW.

HOWEVER, you mentioned you wanted to see the parade after dinner. Make sure you allow two hours for the dinner. Maybe they can speed things up if you ask them.

I agree with k&a&c'smom.

I think the Disney dining folks do their best to explain what a designation means but sort of ad lib. We've also been told no cut off shorts for Citricos. But nice shorts for men.... I'd be surprised if that is still not very common in warmer months at Citricos. We'll see in July.

:D

We've gone to Citrico's directly from Magic Kingdom- and before you ask- NO, we weren't sweaty, stinky or anything like that.

We'd brought a change of pants with us because after the sun went down it had been getting chilly. So we wore Mouska-shirts and Mouska- sweatpants. And they were happy to feed us and take our money!!!

Of course I don't mean to offend anyone- please don't flame me......

Oh- and the meal was devine....... :hyper:

Ok that makes sense.

As far as sandals go, yes I am talking about the "nice" sandals, not "pool wear" or "sneaker type" sandals. DD doesn't own a pair of nice closed shoes, she wouldn't need them for anything here. I have the "slip on" slide type sandals for myself, that's what I was thinking about it.

But, I appreciate the feedback sotoalf. I've been wanting to try this place for a long time since it first opened (after Flagler's closed) and this trip would be perfect.

k&a&c'smom, what you describe is what I would think "smart Casual" would be. That's why I was surprised to hear no shorts. I'll have to check on it again.

We would "like" to see the parade. Our PS are for 6:20 and the parade is at 9 but we'd have to be out of there by 8-8:15. It all depends on DH, he's meeting us up there that night so if he's running late we may have to change plans all together (I hope not), but if we miss the parade Friday there's always Saturday! I hope:teeth:

We've always eaten at Citrico's in "theme park casual"--nice walking shorts, new Disney T-shirts, sneakers. Never ever been any sort of problem.
The Disney dress code is more of a "suggestion" than a real code. Much like the restaurant we ate at about 3 weeks ago (in Baltimore). It was a "jackets for men suggested" code. Mrs U made me wear mine--turns out that I was one of but 3 men WITH a jacket--everyone else had on shirts with collars and slacks--except one fellow in jeans, who they still let in!!!

We were told the same thing, while making a last minute priority seating at flying fish. Smart Casual..I said what...the castmember at disney dining phone line went on to explain, I said, well, you better cancel then...we are standing right outside the restaurant, we just came from EPCOT, and we don't want to go back to our resort to change.

The reservationist said, just go, I said are you sure. She said, I am sure they won't turn you away. I said, ok..we will go. We love flying fish.

There were people in nice shorts, dress clothes etc..even some jeans. Nothing tacky though, no tank tops or swim shorts, etc.
There was even a wedding party there that night.

So, I would tell hubby to go in his nice shorts and sandals...I doubt if you will be the only ones dressed that way.

For our trip last February, the YC concierge made our PS's and e-mailed our itinerary, which included a hints page. Citrico's had a designation of "DC" defined as:

"Dress Code-Dressy casual: Collared shirt prefered for gentlemen. No tank tops, t-shirts, cut offs or jeans."

Thus, under this designation "nice" shorts would seem to be okay.

By the way, of the restaurants for which we made PS, this was the only restaurant that had such a DC designation. Others we had PS for included Flying Fish, Yachstman Steakhouse, Jiko, Artist Point and Bistro de Paris.

I emailed IPO at the Poly yesterday, and this was the definition of "smart casual" they sent me: "smart casual (no bathing suits or bathing suit-type attire, & no tank tops for men) can be described as resort dress wear."

IPO went on to comment: They don't want cut-offs, tank tops for men, flip flops, etc. Nice shorts, polos, sandals, etc. are acceptable. One note on our description of the restaurant "suggestion for men, a collared shirt, such as polo, etc."

This was their response to my inquiry of my usual attire at Narcoossee's, Flying Fish, Jiko of khaki shorts, polo or similar top, sandals. They stated that Citricos has that same policy.

:sunny:

I am not sure about citricos but on our honeymoon we went to bistro de paris one night we had changed into pants with a nice button down hawaiian print shirt for DH and I had capri's and a nice shirt and sweater.

The hostess was going up quietly to couples and telling them that it is a fine restaurant and that they were not appropriately dressed - they would need to change if they wished to eat there.

Made my PS for this Saturday night and the CM told me No Tank Tops or Flip Flops!:hyper:

I have been once before. I saw people in park wear and people dressed up. As long as you are clean and neat looking, you should be fine.

Well then I think we'll be "A" ok:p DH likes his nice shorts, I'm happy with my capri's and dd will wear capri's too. It was the sneaker thing that concerned me really. Didn't want to lug around any extra stuff, we'll just be coming from our afternoon "rest" so we should be clean, he he!!

I'm looking forward to it, nice change since we haven't tried it yet. Thanks for all of your replies and we have been to many of the other "smart casual" restaurants and dressed pretty much the same as I mentioned above:p so it should work very nicely!

Any recommendations at Citrico's??? I was "eyeing" the Goat Cheese salad and the salmon, dh is a "duck" kind a guy (he doesn't make it a habit of quacking or anything like that...) The Rack of Lamb looks good too, what do ya think???:teeth: I hate looking at those menus when I'm hungry, what torture!!!
