DD, who will turn 13 the next day, wants to wear her ballet costume to MNSSHP on Sept. 22nd. It's your basic ballet costume: leotard-like bodice with pancake tutu, in red, black, and gold. Very striking, but will it provide enough coverage to get her into the park for the party? (although I've seen unshapely women dressed in much less, much more provocatively, in MK!) She does NOT want to wear her tights...wonder why?! (duh......it's hot?)

I don't really see why not- but you say "pancake tutu." Is this one of those flat ones that sticks out straight on the sides? (like classic pointe dancers wear?) If it is- wouldn't this be really awkward to wear on rides??

Yes, it's a classic tutu BUT rather than being stiff and scratchy, it's actually quite soft and sheer, like the fabric you'd find on sheer sleeves on a formal dress. It's pretty heavily pleated, so instead of standing straight out, it sort of flounces and bounces. It cost me a chunk o' change, about $60, and she never wore it in the recital because she had a hip injury and was out of dance for several months. I'd be thrilled if she can finally wear it!

If she can function, I'm sure she can wear it. Don't worry about, just go and have a good time.

I don't see why that would be a problem. It sounds like a wonderful costume to me...just as long as it will be okay on the rides. It won't be ruined by squishing will it?

As long as you are wearing at least as much as, say, Jasmine or Ariel you are fine.

i wish i could still pull off being a ballerina! :wizard:

as long as she is comfortable and it's not so large it's cumbersome (or distracting on rides) it's probably fine.

have fun! :thumbsup2

No, I wouldn't let her wear it if it would interfere with or get caught in any of the rides. It just seems sort-of like a cousin to just wearing a bathing suit- although you would never mistake it for one, it's really beautiful. I just didn't know if they had any dress-code-ish requirements, that's all!

My MNSSHP tickets just came and the letter says:

COSTUMES: Children are encouraged to attend the party in costume.
FOR THE SAFETY OF YOUR CHILD AND OTHERS, PLEASE ADHERE TO THE GUIDELINES BELOW.
Halloween costumes should NOT:
  • Obstruct the guest's view or interfere with their ability to board/unload from attractions and/or the Walt Disney World Resort transportation system (including monorails, ferry boats and motorcoaches).
  • Drag on the ground.
  • Contain sharp or pointed objects or material that may accidentally strike another guest.
  • Be offensive to other guests.
  • Contain any weapons which resemble or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon.

"Be offensive to other guests." Just about anything might be offensive to someone, no? That one is really vague, LOL. However, I wouldn't think people in general would be offended by a ballerina. :teeth:

If the "flouncy, bouncy"-ness covers the area a short skirt would, I'd say its ok. Otherwise, being 13 and not wearing tights, I'm a bit iffy... I know leotards can ride up and what if she was getting off a ride and it rode up and everyone saw her bottom? Eeeek! :earseek:

I always thought that meant don't do something stupid like dress up as Hitler or something moronic like that. Offensive to other guests is extremely vague in most cases other than extremes like I mentioned.

It sounds fine. My DD8 is also wearing her dance costume but it's her jazz one with a sparkly leo and short skirt, no tights, I'm going with short cuffed socks and jazz shoes as long as she'll wear them (carrying tennies for if needed). I love getting extra use out of these costumes I spent $$ on for dance by letting her wear them for halloween.
