Dreams Unlimited vs. Disney Email Discount

After reading scads of posts about DU, I'm still a little confused about how they work.

I've looked at their website and saw the form that is to be completed for the quote. I can indicate, for example, if I'm a AAA member so that I may get a better price. Where do the Disney Email Discounts fit in, if at all?

If I received an email discount from Disney, should I give the code to DU and see if they can apply it? Or am I better off just booking through Disney?

I seem to recall that from the time that you book with DU that they will periodically check for better rates until your trip date. This is what confuses me. Do I need to let them know that I saw sale ad or a code or do they just do it.

Sorry if this sounds very basic, but I have little experience with travel agents/services and tend to just book trips myself.

You can give DU the code that you got and they will check on availablity for you. In my opinion, it is not in your best interest to book directly through Disney since with DU you will have an agent who will work for you to get you your best rates on your rooms or packages.

If there are codes out there that becaome available for the general public, DU should check to see if they can get you the better rate. If you receive a special mailing from Disney, then you need to let DU know about that. You also need to let them know if you are an Annual Pass holder or a Florida resident - anything that they can use to possibly get you a better rate. When they know who you are and what discounts you are eligible for, they should keep on top of things to see that you get the best rates available to you.

No problem. I really understand, and even with the great service that people can get from Dreams Unlimited, some still feel better handling their own travel arrangements. You have to figure what works best for you. :)

Can I just book a room through DU? I saw a great room rate for extra nights to add on. Do I have to be a member or something? Or just book it? Where would I get these extra codes to add on? Thank you..

You can use DU to do a room-only reservation. The request form will ask you what you are looking for. You can mention you have codes as well. I've used them for packages and room-only reservations.

We have been to Disney 20+ times. I have always booked everything myself until this past Christmas. I used DU and they were great. I booked room only with a AAA discount. They then adjusted the rate when codes came out. I didn't call or email them. They just took care of things for me.

The discount codes that I was referring to in my original post are ones that I have received from Disney via email or snailmail postcards. From what I've read on the boards, the discount emails and postcards from Disney are sent rather randomly. Also, there may be an ad in the travel section of my local paper that may also have some sort of promotion code.
