I was so excited to be able to surprise the boys with this. "Aladdin" thinks that the GF looks like a castle and he really wanted to stay there. I am so glad we were able to make his dreams come true! And yes, Discovery Cool is VERY COOL!

See, someone understands. :lmao: The boys ARE lucky to have a Disney obsessed mom! ;) Dh is not so sure about that. :rolleyes1 That surprise was full of chocolaty goodness...at least the few bites I was able to snatch before my family devoured it all. ;)

OH MY! I can't WAIT to see how the boys react!

Oh my gosh!!! I can't wait to read your next installment! :goodvibes What a fantastic surprise......I can't wait to hear about your boy's reactions! It sounds like you've had a magical vacation so far, and it just keeps getting better! :)
They were beyond happy! And also beyond confused. :scared1: That little smiley sort of shows the reaction...except their eyes were not poppin' out from fear but from excited happiness.

Welcome back! Will you be sharing your trip via a trip report? If you do, please be sure to make sure you let me know!! :thumbsup2 Tell your dh to call the Coral Reef and set up a diver...it's such a nice touch.

If he likes swimming and ocean life...I can honestly say, I cannot imagine him not being in heaven. But it is pricey...however, for the price of admission you do get a lot of extras thrown in. The towels, lockers, toiletries, all snacks, drinks, meals, parking, floats for the lazy river, a picture, food for the animals (birds and sting ray feedings if you happen to be there when they do them) and equipment (including the use of RX goggles should your sight be as poor as mine ;)). You also get a week long pass good at either Sea World or Bush Gardens *your choice of one* with the price of Discovery Cove. So...if you use the pass for even a day or two, it starts to seem a whole lot better price wise.

Okay, I guess I should work on an update! ;) So off I go...coming up next...our last morning at AKL, a few stops and then a secret revealed! :woohoo:

Day 10...our final morning at AKL-

We slept in again (at least by theme park time) and after one final check of our rooms we headed up for our final breakfast in the AKL concierge lounge. :(
The food was once again filling and good. The views were stunning and the club staff was wonderful.

However, this next encounter has me scratching my head. ;) One of the CMs who staffed the desk came over with a package for us (it was in a Disney bag) and I thought it must have been something we had sent back from one of the parks earlier in the week. The CM told me she had gotten it back from bell services when they asked her if we had checked out yet that morning. As I said, I was under the impression that it was a package we had sent back from the parks...so when she started going on and on about how nice it was of the lady to leave us a package, I was a bit lost. I kept thinking, yes, but it is her job to bring my purchase to me. :lmao: Finally she handed me the package and went back over to her desk. I set the package on the table and finished my breakfast.

Finally we were done eating but not quite ready to move from the lounge yet. It was such a calm, peaceful time, we didn't want it to end. I ended up going over and having a great visit with the concierge CM. I told her we would be sure to be back...and I mean it. AKL is already calling my name so loudly that my ears are ringing! ;) One of the last things she said to me was how sweet it was that the package was left for me. Again, I smiled and agreed but in my head I was thinking, UH...okay, this CM must really like the other CM. I was so clueless.

For what would be the last time on this trip we walked out of AKL and made our way to our packed van. *Packed might have been an understated way of putting it at that point* When we climbed in, I handed the package back to "Aladdin" and asked him to find somewhere to stash it. "Aladdin" is obviously more observant then I am...within about 20 seconds of handing him the bag he said "Who is it from?" and handed me a note. DING DING DING DING DING..the light started to dawn for me...this was not a package from the parks. Instead, as I read the note, it all became clear, it was a gift from a very dear sweet DISer. LindaBabe had left us a package of SUPER COOL glowing necklaces, leis and sticks. Now, you must once again remember my delight at things that glow (delight/obsession...either one fits). When I saw a package of glowing goodies, I was smiling from ear to ear. It was a GREAT upper to the downer of leaving AKL, however, I was so sad that it hadn't gotten to me in time for me to find Linda in person and thank her for her kindness. I would have had dh turn the van around, but I knew they were set to depart on Sunday morning as well, and I didn't want to turn back on just the chance that they had not already departed. Which I was pretty sure they had (it was late morning by the time we finally left the lounge).

So...right here...right now...:flower3: THANK YOU LINDABABE! You made us all so very happy!!! Just a bit of kindness and thoughtfulness brought us huge smiles and tons of joy! :grouphug:

Finally it made sense to me, the fuss the CM was making over the nice woman who had brought the bag...she had meant LINDA...not the CM! ;)

Following that happy surprise we were back into "trick mode". Dh and I asked the boys if they would mind leaving for home a bit later then we normally would. :lmao: As if they were going to mind!! We told them we thought that we might play a round of mini golf and check out a resort or two (to help us make a decision on where to stay next time we came to WDW) before we got on the road.

This surprise in and of itself would have made our boys beyond happy. An extra few hours of soaking up the magic...they were all over that!:thumbsup2

Our first stop was at Disney's Winter Summerland Mini Golf. Upon arrival we were all very impressed with the theming!

Disney2007076.jpg

After a short debate, we decided to go on the winter course. It was a great choice. We had so much fun! On the very first hole, I got a hole in one! I was so excited!
Disney2007077.jpg

Here are some assorted photos from the very fun course!

I would have taken way more pictures but it was HOT! The course was a ton of fun and makes the must do list for our family, however, I would try to end up there on an overcast day if at all possible. The sun was baking us on the snow.

But the fun we had was worth the heat. Everyone in our group scored a hole in one on at least one hole. "Aladdin" and I both made a hole in one on the secret hole of the day. When you finish the course, you bring your scorecard up to the club return area and they check your score. If you have a hole in one on the secret hole, you get a free fountain drink. That REALLY hit the spot! And everyone got a candy cane. Strange to be sucking on a candy cane in the middle of September in the Florida heat, but oddly fitting as well.

After our golf adventure we asked the boys which two resorts they would like to check out before we took off for home. "Aladdin" picked the Grand Floridian (what would we have done if he hadn't?!) and both "Stitch" and "Goofy" said they wanted to check out the Wilderness Lodge. So...to the Wilderness Lodge we went.
Disney2007084.jpg

We only have one photo from our exploration there because we ran out of room on our memory stick and the spare ones were packed away in the mounds of luggage in the back of the van. We did, however, have a nice time looking around the "other" WDW lodge.

We also stopped for lunch. We still had a bunch of remaining counter service meals so we used up another meal's worth of them. Dh was happy that the WL had an ice cream machine(why didn't AKL have one of these?). We all enjoyed our lunch there.

Finally, it was time to leave the WL and head over to the Grand Floridian. As we drove, dh whispered to me that we had better tell the kids because the guard would most likely mention it as we drove up. Turns out we had not thought about that. So...dh pulled over (we were still in the WL parking lot at this point) and we let the boys in on our plans for the next week.

The unveiling went something like this:

DH: So do you boys want to bother checking out the GF?

BOYS: YES! YES!! YESSSSSSSSS!

ME: What if we did something different instead?

BOYS: But we really want to see it. And you said we would be able to take ride on the monorail before we left.

ME: Well...okay, I guess we should head over there.

DH: I think I might be too tired to drive home if we stop and visit another place before leaving.

BOYS: Awwww...okay. We understand (what good boys!!). Let's make it the first place we go next time.

ME: I promise. We will make the GF the first stop of our next WDW stay.

DH: (Looking at me) What do you say we make that next stay right now?!

ME: (Looking at the boys) Sure, what do you guys say? Are you up for another week at WDW? This time staying at the Grand Floridian?!

BOYS: Are you joking?

DH and I BOTH: NO!!!

BOYS: YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And then many whoops and hollers and shrieks of joy. Followed up by a few more "Are you jokings" and more then a few "thank yous" and "I love yous".

Here is the one picture I got (I had to delete another picture on the memory card to even be able to get this one).

Up next...To the GF we go!!

To be continued...

I think that is too funny that you had no idea what the CM was going on about with the package.:lmao:

What a great way to surprise the boys. I can only imagine their excitement.

You are a sneaky one, jay! What a perfect way to do it! :thumbsup2 You have such wonderful sons -- makes the surprises that much more fun, doesn't it?! :cloud9:

And LindaBabe's reputation precedes her. As I was reading about the CMs comments regarding the nice lady leaving the package, I just knew she was the lady they were referring to! :goodvibes

The way you kept that secret and tricked them! You are mean -- and I admire that so much!!! :rotfl2: :cool1: :cheer2:

I actually got tears in my eyes as I read the reveal! So awesome!!:cloud9:

Can't wait to check out the GF!!!!

YEA! Off to the GF you go! I love the convo. you and your DH had with the boys...it was perfect!:goodvibes

That was funny. Although, I must say, WDW's package delivery system is lacking. Linda left that package DAYS earlier and it was given to whoever was supposed to put it in my room by the concierge lounge days before our final day. Where the package went, I have no clue. Maybe it took a vacation itself! ;) But we just lucked out on happening to be sitting in the lounge when the CM was figuring out what to do with it/if we had left yet. Later on I left a package for another DISer at Port Orleans and didn't even ask that it be delivered to her room, just held for her. They managed to lose it (for a few days). Finally, somehow, they tracked that package down as well (maybe another package on vacation? ;) ) and she was able to pick it up...but Jiminy Cricket...they do need a better system in place.

Sneaky, sneaky!! That's us!! I was SO proud of myself!!:cool2: I am usually the one that spills the beans early about everything. If you tell me a secret, I can keep it without a hitch...UNLESS that secret involves a surprise/gift/party of some sort. Then I start to burst at the seams. So this surprise for our boys REALLY tested my ability to keep my mouth shut. ;)

Linda really is a fantastic person. I hope to meet up with her again at WDW and this time to really make some plans to get to spend a stretch of time with her. While our visits were fun, they were all too short!

Hee hee hee...I am still patting myself on the back over keeping the secret in...so admire away! :cool2:

Dh and I were hoping to just pull up to the front of the GF and somehow procure the key to our room and pretend to be just touring and take them to our room...however, in reality, that would have taken a bit more planning then we had done. With my dad getting so sick, I had really dropped the ball on a lot of last minute details I wanted to get worked out before we left...and this was one of them. However, even though we just surprised them buckled into the van in the parking lot of the Wilderness Lodge, it is still one of my favorite memories. The smiles and the laughs and the disbelief followed by pure joy...PRICELESS!! :cloud9:

Great trickery!! :rotfl: Always wanted to try out one of the miniature golf courses. Looks like fun!
Why thank you. ;) The golf course was a ton of fun...BUT HOT! Be warned, go on a cooler day or overcast day or just pick a time of day when the sun is not at it's brightest.

YEA! Off to the GF you go! I love the convo. you and your DH had with the boys...it was perfect!:goodvibes
WELCOME HOME! I love the new picture you have up! Little Sazzo is a little doll! I hope to hear about your trip!:wizard:

Day 10, continued...arriving at the Grand Floridian-

We were a very happy crew on the short trip between the Wilderness Lodge and the Grand Floridian. As we pulled up to the guard and gate, dh winked at me at having predicted the spilling of our surprise in time for us to get to be the ones who divulged it. And sure enough, the first thing he said to us was "checking in?" HA HA HA.

As we pulled up to the Grand Floridian, I was too busy watching the boys' reactions (especially "Aladdin" for whom this was a dream come true) to take all of the beauty in. As we pulled up, a bellman hopped to it right away, the valet was upon us to whisk our van away once the bellman had unloaded our luggage and a personal greeter stood waiting to welcome us to the Grand Floridian. I know, I know, they hop to it for everyone (at least when you are the only one to pull up at that specific time) but it felt wonderful to have such attentive service. The personal greeter must have been alerted by the guard when we came through the gate. I like that touch at the Grand Floridian. I mean having the bellman take us up to the concierge check in at AKL had been wonderful...but having a personal greeter who gave us a tour on the way to our room was just divine. We didn't even have to stop at the concierge desk in the Sugarloaf building, our greeter walked us straight to the room and checked us in there!

As we took our walking tour from the main entrance over to the Sugarloaf building I was eager to see if we had received the our one room request(other then needing special VIP cleaning due to "Aladdin's" asthma and allergies). We were hoping for a lodge tower room. They have an extra seating area in the octagonal portion of the building. I knew they had very few of these rooms and that only two of the lodge tower rooms in Sugarloaf slept five...so I was almost certain that we would not have our request met.

BUT...as we walked into our room...IT WAS A LODGE TOWER ROOM!:yay: :woohoo: :yay:

I think I might have done a jig. :dance3: I was so excited to have the room I had been hoping on getting for months. Once the bags were brought up to the room, we wanted to head out and explore our home for the rest of vacation. On our way out we stopped in the lounge for a quick afternoon snack. Now, the lounge at AKL was one of our favorite spots there...I cannot say the same for the Sugarloaf lounge. It was nice. Sort of homey. Almost like a bed and breakfast. But it was far from filled with the ambiance that defines the Grand Floridian. So, while we enjoyed our time there, it was not a place that drew us to linger. Below you see a picture of dh and the boys snacking while I ran up to grab our other memory card.

And "Aladdin" in his still shocked happy state:

We ended our exploration back in the main lobby. Now that is where I felt the grandeur and the happiness of being a lounge lizard. ;)

As we sat enjoying the lobby, a manager made the rounds and gave each of the women he came across a single long stem rose. I didn't even notice him doing this until he got to us. I was very surprised and happy to have my very own rose to sniff. He was very nice and took the time to chat with us. It was after he left us that I noticed him circling the room and making it a special afternoon for those who happened to be sitting in the lobby.

One last shot in the main building and we made our way back to the Sugarloaf building.

Day 10, continued...another surprise and pictures of our room-

Upon returning to our room we found two surprises waiting for us.
The concierge had left a chocolate Mickey Mouse with some cookies as a birthday surprise for "Goofy" and a bottle of champagne on ice and a long stemmed red rose in honor of dh's and my anniversary. If you look closely, you can see the chocolate Mickey standing on the plate of cookies on top of the tv cabinet in one of the pictures below. I was unable to get a shot of it before "Goofy" ate the Happy Birthday sign and his name card off of it (both done in chocolate).

Disney2007103.jpg

Since I could not partake of the champagne right then, we packed it up to take home and we will be drinking it shortly after our little prince-to-be arrives.

And now, for some pictures of the room:

The room was gorgeous! Even though we had an "older" room that had not yet been remodeled and I am not a flowery kind of person, I thought the room was really stunning. The boys LOVED having a second tv in the seating area. They took over that entire area as their own. Despite being a bit on the formal side, the room was very whimsical with hidden Disney characters in the wallpaper, on the bedspread and even on the lamp.

After a bit of relaxing and picture taking it was time for us to get ready for dinner. Tonight we would be eating at the Polynesian. The Kona Cafe was our destination for the evening.

To be continued...

The GF really is a lovely resort. I am glad that your lucky streak followed you over to the new hotel and you were able to get the room you requested.
