Disney Dream 1/4/16 - 1/8/16 Sailing to The Bahamas
PART 9
I apologize for the couple of week delay in keeping up with my TR. Life certainly threw me a curve ball with this process I am going through in training for my new career. It requires 24/7 mindset and a ton of preparation for the next day. I am off today for the President's Day holiday and DGF is home from college for the weekend, and I couldn't be happier. We spent Valentine's Day at a hockey game (Let's Go New Jersey Devil's!) with my family.
Thank you to everyone for the kind compliments on the TR. I appreciate them all!
Soooo where did I leave off? We woke up on our "swapped" Castway Cay day to that lovely grinding noise the ship makes when it's backing into the port. I turned on the porthole window for DGF's "wake up" routine lol only to find BLUE SKIES and SUNSHINE! This was a cruise first!
We got all of our stuff ready and donned our swimsuits and had an awesome breakfast at Cabanas! It was such a pleasant change to be able to look out over the blue skies, blue waters, and sunshine while we ate.
We packed a backpack for the day just in case, including a post card to mail back home with the official
Castaway Cay Bahamanian postmark and stamp. The Post Office hadn't opened yet so we walked over to find the tram to Serenity Bay (adult beach). As we were walking, a few clouds rolled in and it began misting and spritzing rain. I was SO annoyed, at that point I thought it was going to be like that
all day . Thankfully we only got a little wet and we dried off on the tram. We got to take pictures from the tram of the scenery and we watched the people running the Castaway 5K race.
A Disney Vacation Rainbow!!!
We made our way over to Serenity Bay. We decided to definitely do Serenity because the ship crew cancelled 95% of the shore excursions for the day due to choppy seas. The family beaches were CROWDED. It was a little chilly out so we kept our sweatshirts on for a while. We grabbed a hammock and decided to share one and stake out a beach chair for our stuff.
DGF napped a little and I closed my eyes. I eventually got up and grabbed a drink from the little bar on the beach. It was very similar to a vanilla ice cream mudslide- type drink. I loved it. I would've drank more if I hadn't been full still from breakfast. We relaxed and DGF sunned herself while we watched some couples try to snorkel. It was pretty cold water but there were a ton of people walking out to sand bars.
Eventually we packed up and headed for some lunch, we wanted to see the island a bit and also spend some time doing outdoorsy stuff on the ship since this was our last day of the cruise. We had an
awesome lunch at Cookies Too right there on Serenity Bay. It isn't listed as a spot for lunch on the map so we thought we had to tram it back for lunch. It was an american style barbecue with tons of choices plus desert!
After a nice lunch in the shade, we trammed it back as it was getting a little hot. We stopped at a few shops and got some post cards and pins. DGF got a nice tank top too.
We stopped at the lookout bar ( Heads Up Bar) for some cool shots of the ship.
We made it back to the area of the ship and stopped in the Post Office to buy our stamp. I am a little disappointed as it's been over a month and I still have not received our post card yet.
On my next update, I'll share our last afternoon and evening's activities and our very sad debarkation day. Thanks for sticking with me folks!
