DREAMing of Our Surf and Turf Adventure ~8/30/11 Updates!~

We had a nice rest at the hotel, and when nap time was over, it was time to head off to "lunch" at Wolfgang Puck Cafe in Downtown Disney. It was definitely late for a lunch (about 3:30 for our reservation) but our breakfast at Kona was so satisfying we didn't even notice.

Below is an exerpt from the 2010 Dining review on our experience at Wolfgang's.

I'm not going to lie, when we headed off for Wolfgang's after a GREAT day at Magic Kingdom, I was a little worried. I was getting really really frustrated with the service we had been getting and was beginning to think that Deluxe was not such a great idea if the service was going to continue. But, off we went anyway to Wolfgang Puck Cafe. Irvin was our server. All I have to say is, I  Irvin. Maybe I was giving off a disappointed vibe, or maybe he is just always fantastic, either way, he made our day. He had a great sense of humor, and was totally wonderful, start to finish.

We started off right away with drinks. Mango iced tea for Adam. Lemonade for me. I am a major sushi freak, so wanted to know how that was going to work with our plan. I was a little disappointed to find out that only the sushi sampler counted as an appetizer, despite the fact that most maki rolls here are less expensive than the appetizers themselves. No worry here though. I ordered the sushi sampler, and Adam ordered the crab cakes.

Sushi Sampler - 2 pieces of nigiri sushi, 4 pieces of California roll and edamame $12.95

Um...YUM. Super fresh sushi. The tuna nigiri was like butter. Wonderful, delicious, meaty butter. But to die for. The avocados in the California roll were also perfectly ripened, not too firm, not too soft. Overall, a really really great start.

Crab Cake - Sauteed Maryland Style crab cake with marinated tomato basil aioli, garnished with micro greens $15.95

Another great app. Good size crab cakes, loaded with tons of grab. There was very little breading on the inside of the grab cake, which is how they should be! Adam usually isn't a big crab lover, but really enjoyed these and the aioli really complimented them nicely.

Now, for entree's I really should have gotten more sushi, but the salmon pizza sounded really really good, and its not something I can get anywhere else, so I went with that. Sorry about the missing piece, I still wasn't used to taking pics!

Wolfgang's Signature Smoked Salmon Pizza - Dill cream, red onion, chile oil and chives $17.95

The crust was a disappointment, very very dense, and not really soft, or crispy. Everything piled on top made up for it though. A nice dill sauce, that wasn't too overbearing on the dill flavor, if you know what I mean. Wonderful lox on top, and then red onion added a nice bite and crunch, while the chili oil added a nice very mellow heat afterwards. Yum! Something else I am going to have to try to make at home.

And for Adam, Chicken Alfredo.

DisneyworldAugust2010-2074.jpg

Chicken Fettuccine - Pan roasted chicken and pancetta in a parmesan cream sauce $19.95

Now, the menu says fettuccine, but this was obviously not. I was secretly thankful for that. Any type of pasta that you have to wind up, and Adam is bound to make a total mess of himself. This was another really good selection. The alfredo had a nice bite to it, but was not overwhelming, and the crispy pancetta went nicely with the soft pasta. The chicken was also moist, well seasoned and had excellent flavor.

For dessert, I wanted something light because I knew I would be getting my fill of them later that evening. I went with the no sugar added cheesecake mousse.

DisneyworldAugust2010-2077.jpg

Sugar Free Cheesecake Mousse - With raspberry puree and fresh berries $7.95

I am used to eating sugar free desserts as diabetes runs in my family, and this was really excellent. It was a cream cheese base, that was thinned out with something, maybe sour cream, because it was very light. Added to the cream chese was a lot of cinnamon, which was very borderline with too much cinnamon. They definitely try to compensate for the fact that there is no sugar with a lot of cinnamon for flavor. The raspberry puree was yummy too, but is tart due to there being no sugar.
I will say, if you don't normally eat sugar free dessert, this may not be a winner for you. But it was very light and delicious.

Adam went with

DisneyworldAugust2010-2087.jpg

Florida Key Lime Pie - Swiss meringue with a buttery graham cracker crust $7.95

Perhaps I am wrong, but I always thought key lime pie was a really light whipped filling with lime flavoring? This is 100% key lime cheesecake in my opinion. It is not meringue. It was cheesecake base. And a damn good one at that. I stole half of it, simply because I just couldn't set my fork down an stop. Great key lime flavor in the cheesecake and the most wonderful buttery delicious graham cracker crust. So much for keeping things light. :rolleyes1

This was a positively excellent meal start to finish. I can't wait to go back!

After our lunch, we decided to check out a few of the Downton Disney shops, since the last time we were here it was pouring rain, and found this little guy...

We wandered around for a few hours, before it was time to head back to the Magic Kingdom. We had booked the Wishes Dessert Party this evening, and didn't want to be late!

Here are a few pics of the Castle from the terrace.

Unfortunately our experience was not as nice as the view...

So, after I fabulous meal at Wolfgang's we headed back over to the Magic Kingdom for the day, knowing we had the dessert party ahead of us that night.

So, I will say this. I came into the party with an open mind. Right before we left there was a series of pretty unkind reviews about the party. That being said, if I can ever convince Adam to come to Disney again, we won't be repeating this event.

I thought the desserts were delicious, and the view was lovely. Seeing Tinkerbell fly overhead was an experience I won't soon forget.

I think the price was way out of line for this and I will explain why. We were one of the first people into the party, and our table was directly front and center. We got our first plates of dessert, and enjoyed them at our table. We got our photopass picture taken. It was nice and relaxing. I decided I wanted a few more chocolate covered strawberries. Something tragic must have happened while we had been away (like the end of civilization being announced) because I returned to an absolute disaster. There were trays of food knocked off their pedestals, food on the floor, people up at the buffet and cast members quickly trying to clean everything up. While I was at the buffet I was quite literally elbowed out of the way by a rather ravenous individual. It was just a really unpleasant experience. I felt like I was in the middle of a stampede and there was no need for it. We were told no less than 3 times that everything would be replenished, and as far as I could tell, it was.

And also, remember my really wonderful seat? Not so much when people start lining up in the rail 45 minutes before the show directly in front of you. Don't get me wrong, they had every right to do that, but the point of going to the dessert paty was so that you din't have to stand around jockeying for position. Maybe it was just the crowd that was there with us that night, I really don't know. But, really not a an experience I'm dying to repeat. Again, I thought the desserts were tasty and nicely portioned, but just overall, not for us. Only got 2 pics on my camera (shame again!) but here they are

So, needless to say, we won't repeat this again this trip. Maybe a few years from now. :confused3

Magic Kingdom closed right after the fireworks. We did stop off at the Main Street Bakery for breakfast items for the next morning. I got banana bread pudding, and Adam got a brownie with nuts.

So I really don't remember watching this movie as a kid. Its now obvious that I don't remember because I blocked it out. What a scary movie for kids! Not my favorite, but we still enjoyed our meal.

We don't have "fine china" so our Target dishes had to do for our tea party. We plan to register for some good stuff, but of course Crate & Barrell is discontinuing the china pattern that took me weeks of searching to find. :confused3

For our meal we had little tea sandwiches, tea, and sweets.

This was a perfect meal on this day because it was HOT outside, it was nice to not have to use the stove.

Don't worry, eventually I will be back!! So after weeks and weeks of anxiously waiting, I finally know where I will be off to for work! I also know that I don't have to leave until September but will be gone until just before Christmas, leaving only one month in between my work trip ending and our Disney trip, with Christmas and New Years mixed in there as well!!

So, now on to where I will be going for my work trip...Starting September 4th I will be working out of....

new-york-city.jpg

Still don't have all the details, but I am BEYOND excited!! I have always said that I want to live in New York for at least a year, but after going on previous trips, knew I probably would never survive a whole year, so going for 3 and a half months will get that crossed off the bucket list!! Now that I am no longer stressed out over the possibility of going to Middle of Nowhere, Indiana I can focus a lot more on this Trip Report!!

Omg!! So exciting! If you need to know anything NYC/LI just let me know! I would be so happy to help! You will be here for some exciting events! Fashion week, thanksgiving day parade, and a NYC Christmas! (well, at least the decor and maybe the tree lighting!)welcome to ny!

Signing on! We are doing a "surf and turf" next year, so I am super excited to hear all about your plans!

So...its obviously been an eternity since I have posted last. Shame on me! We have had some pretty major changes!

So, first lets talk about New York. I leave ONE week from today! The last month I have been consumed with getting everything ready for the big move! Its a lot of effort to put forth, to be moving it all back in 5 months! So, I now officially have a place to live. Right on W 42nd Street! Such a great location, I am very excited. The decorator and furniture and electronics people are all there this week getting everything set up. So, we should be all set for me to arrive on Tuesday. Can't wait to update you all when I get there!

Because I am now staying in New York longer than originally planned, we have had to make some addjustments to our plans as well. We are now going March 3 - 11. We also have unfortunately had to drop off the cruise portion of our trip. Just not enough time in the year to get everything in! I hope to post more updates throughout the day and get you all fully caught up on our new plans. Happy planning to you all in the meantime!
