Please tell me about your experiences cruising with a toddler (early 2 year old) on the Dream. Would you do it again? We are trying to figure out what to do vacation wise this year and are dying to go on a cruise. Last fall we took ds on his first trip to WDW and he LOVED it! DH is not keen on going each year. So, we are debating on the Dream or HI. Thanks!

Our young two yr old son loved our Dream cruise in mid-November. We utilized the nursery for a few hours on one day so we could have a date night (and really enjoyed Pink and Skyline bars). Having said that, we did have to cut our dinner on the last night short a bit and take our dessert back to the room with us because he was super tired and being very fussy, etc. We also cruised on the Magic with our daughter when she turned two and we had a great time with her. The splash areas for the "still in diapers" set are fun and both our kids have enjoyed hours of playtime on both the Magic and Dream. Our kids have also really done well sitting through the shows too. Sometimes they fall asleep, and sometimes we've opted to skip the show for early bedtime, but sometimes they stay awake the entire show. We enjoy getting the verandah rooms because then you can put the kids to bed and then sit on the verandah and watch the stars, talk, etc., rather than just sitting in the room. Also, my DH and I usually take turns going out and exploring the ship during naptimes and early bedtimes if we don't have both kids in the nursery / Oceanears Club.

Have fun!

Although neither was a young two years old, we cruised on the Dream back in May with both an 8 month old and a 3 year old. They both loved it. The older 3 year old loved the Oceaneer Club and the 8 month old did great in the nursery. We took her for two hours on most evenings and the staff were great. There was so much for both of them to do. The only thing that was hard was for our 8 month old who wanted to get in the pools with her sister and brother but wasn't allowed to go in. Poor girl really wanted to be in there although she loved the splash area. The CMs everywhere were very helpful. We are going again this coming June and our youngest will be 21 months then. Go and enjoy.

I would definatly do it again. My DS was 15 months on our last cruise and had just started walking. The best moments was him walking down the hall when the boat was moving. He looked like a drunkin Sailor. :rotfl:

I personally wouldn't use the nursery again, not because of the staff or the quality of care, but because they take the children from you and you can't go past the gate. My son was very upset at this and when he wouldn't settle down they would assume he was tired and put him down to sleep. It just didn't work for our family. Though we did have 3 adults and one 16 year old with us, so we didn't really need the care. Just my opinion and how it worked for my family.

Eating wise, there was lots of options, and milk was always available on the ship.

We were just on the Dream 2 weeks ago. For us, it was a blast. I suppose each family will have different results. But for our DS2, he loved it. He still talks about it. He spent his alloted time in IASW nursery. The CMs there were fantastic. Again, this was our personal exp. On embarcation day, we bypassed the kids club sign up at the port and went straight to the kids clubs. As we were getting DS8 wristband at the club, I happen to glance back to see my DH & DS2 walking hand in hand with Daisy Duck headed toward the Club to hang out during open house. My DS2 was all cheesey grins and it was a very special moment. I picked him up one evening at IASW nursery, only to find him talking up a storm to Miss Minnie Mouse who was sitting on the floor playing with him! Wow, what a thrill. On the morning we got off the ship, the CM's had left an envelope on our FE of some art he had done while he was in the nursery. They had taken the time to decorate the envelope. I thought that was really special and made for a very nice souviner. Of course, not every family will encounter a character in that way, but I have to tell you, we always run in to one or 2 while on the ship in the most random ways (meaning, not during the regularly scheduled meets). They always seem to make sure the characters show up at the nursery and I think the Club/Lab.

He is getting pretty used to the routine though. So that may have something to do with why he does well on the ships. This was his 3rd cruise. 2nd on the Dream and once on the Wonder. We always request 1st seating. We tell our servers if at all possible to bring the meals out as quickly as possible in the MDR. DS8 loves the Club/Lab & DS2 loved everywhere he was allowed to go. We will be taking him on the Fantasy in about a year and have a dummy date booked for the Dream (maybe going to switch it to the Wonder or Magic). He is not the most patient child at dinner. He never sits still at home. He is always on the go and very active. He found plenty to do on the ship and at all the ports. Loved loved loved Castaway. We rented bikes and rode around. He is a big 2 year old, but fit just fine in the toddler seats attached to the bikes. His highlight there oddly was the tram. We rode it around several times before finally getting off. I think the driver may have thought we did not know when to get off, but I think he eventually figured out why, because DS2 was just loving it. LOL.

HTH. Hope your family has an equally special or even better trip. For our family, DCL is the right choice for us right now, maybe different as the kids get older.

Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions. We were just on the Dream 2 weeks ago.

We took our DD when she was just 23months. She loved the cruise and still talked about "The Mickey Boat" months later. We were able to go with her to the kids clubs where she danced on the light up floor, played in Andy's room and even danced with Snow White and Mickey Mouse! She loved Nemo's Reef eventhough she did pout at first when I told here she couldn't use the pools (she's not potty trained yet). Nemo's reef seemed to be just enough for her.

We just returned from the 12/22 sailing of the Dream with our 16-month old daughter and she did great! She spent some time in the IASW nursery and we never had a problem with her there - staff was wonderful and each time we dropped her off, she waved to us and went on to do her thing. We utilized the nursery so we could try the Aqua Duck on Nassau day and then the 3rd and 4th nights for the shows (she didn't do so well during Villains) and while we got a couples massage on sea day. I think it's up to you but please know that kids of all ages have a blast on a Disney Cruise!
