I have a question for the budget board. In about 2 years I am planning a 10 day honeymoon. Now I know ticket prices and the such will go up but with a budget of 5500 what are some ideas of where to stay, eat, etc.? I really appreciate the ideas and help

I would start by going to Disney's website and planning a mock 10-day trip with the tickets, resort and dining plan (if you want one). That will give you an idea of what your dream trip would cost in today's dollars. Then, scale back from there because, as you said, those prices are going to go up. If $5500 is also going to cover transportation costs, don't forget to factor those in.

I think it is important to figure out what you both want out of your honeymoon since the hotel is likely to be the biggest hit to your budget. If you are going to be at the parks with little resort time you could save a ton of money and go for a value resort. But if you want some relaxation and down time you may want to look at a moderate or renting points for a deluxe.

I would consider the Swan/Dolphin. They are in a great location with a great pool and amenities. They lack the over the top theme of the other disney hotels but that may be a plus on your honeymoon if you want some quiet time from the parks. It does have some extra costs, including transportation from the airport, that you would have to factor but you could pay close to moderate prices for a deluxe location.

Congrats!

There are SOOO many factors that come into play here its hard to say, but happy to help out, if you want to update some info then I can help out more!

- Does that budget include food, souvenirs, and any extras?
- Do you fly or drive there b/c that can effect your budget?
- Do you and your SO have flexible schedules or is there a certain time of year you have to go/want to go like christmas, halloween, runDisney Event, etc.?

as a general idea you can start with these numbers:
Flight: $300/person
Current 10 day hopper tickets: $469/person
Food per day: $63.70/person -- this assumes the regular disney dining plan with 1 QS, 1 TS, 1 snack. In my experience you can eat for less than this but its a safe number to use.

Using that as the necessities you can see that you have a total of $2688 (or $298/night) left over. then we have to account for taxes and disney inflation over the years and you'll probably have close to $2500 (or $277/night) left over. At that price range you have all the moderates and value resorts available to you. I would recommend Coronado Springs or POR. Cornado has a more adult feeling than most Disney hotels, but still has the Disney feeling. I liked my stay at the Dolphin, but it definitely did lack that Disney feel. If you would prefer to spend less on the hotel and have more for meals and souvenirs Pop Century is a great hotel for that: clean, friendly staff and gives you that Disney feel.

Something else you can also look into is renting DVC points to stay at Deluxe DVC resort. You could stay in a studio at most DVC hotels for that price. Depending on your preferences you can stay at the Boardwalk Inn, Animal Kingdom, or Bay Lake Tower. If you are planning on going this route you should be trying to book the points 11 months in advance of your dates.

Good luck and congrats!

Btw, 10 day base tickets are $400 pp and I think hoppers are just $50 or so more.

To answer some of your questions we plan to fly from Indiana. That budget of 5500 includes souvenirs and extras. We both have flexible schedules. We wanted to go in early June though. that would be our peek time for us. We plan to have two days off and 8 days in the parks. Thank you for the help!!!

If you are sure you wont change your mind about the honeymoon, buy your tickets now. You lock in the lower price and prepaying can feel really good. However if you are planning on the dining plan, this doesn't work. I think OOP for dining can be much cheaper and afford more flexibility - but that's a personal choice. Check out Dave's rentals or other rental options for DVC points. Or better yet, see if some relative has DVC points that they would like to let you use as a wedding gift!
