Dream: May 22, 2011

I just found out this morning that I was accepted to the college program!!!!! Right now I'm an Attractions CM, but hopefully after the audition I'll get into Entertainment. So not only will this cruise be celebrating graduation, but also my move to Florida!!! I'M SO EXCITED. :goodvibes

Bella that's Fantastic News!!!!!!!!!!! We're so happy for you!!!!!!

Congratulations!!!!:cheer2::cheer2::dance3:

Mark is having a great time. He spends his evenings "making magical memories for little kids" as he puts it. If you have any questions, just ask.

To all our Double Deuce Cruisers - I'm counting the days!!

Bella,
How wonderful for you - Congratulations. :cheer2: I can only imagine the excitement you are feeling right now.
:dance3::dance3::yay::dancer: I'm sure you're "dancing" with happiness.:dance3::dance3:::dancer:party:

Poison Ivy,
Glad to hear that Mark is doing well and enjoys his new position, it must be fun dealing with the kids. I'm sure he has all kinds of stories already too.

We are at 99 days till we leave - we will be departing on Friday May 20, so I count that as the beginning of our vacation.:goodvibes

Does anyone know how much the hair braids are in Nassau? Or the cost on the ship?

I am going to pack a water pitcher that I bought at Walmart to take to the drink station. The cups are very small.

Anyone think of anything that should be packed that is not the usual?

Thanks Kris,

I'm glad he has this experience. It's pretty cool. They've trained him to harbor those secrets pretty well, so it's great when he shares something. We're having fun with it.

We too are departing on the 20th!

Questions for any veteran cruisers - (since we're first timers!)

First, what are the logistics for the serenity bay beach in castaway cay? I saw a video on one of the travel agent sites which showed taking two trams to get there. Now that my parents are going, I am hoping their day at the beach is relaxing and convenient, given my dad is not as sure on his feet.

Also, looking at a map of the island, I couldn't locate any food service in the adult area. Do you need to go to the family beach for lunch? If so, how far is it?

Thanks.

Poison Ivy:
When you get off the ship, you walk across the "pier" to a tram, board there, then get off at the unloading area for the family beach. From there you walk past the shops and Cookies BBQ. If I remember correctly, the walk way is level and paved. It's a few minutes walk to the next tram area where you board to go to Serenity Bay. You are dropped very near the entrance to Serenity Bay. There is a food service area and a bar at Serenity Bay as well as restrooms. The food selection usually includes burgers, mahi mahi, chicken, and usually some type of steak, along with a selection of salads and cookies and ice cream for dessert and of course the normal beverages. The food selection is not quite as large as Cookies at the family beach, but it is very adequate. The food area and bar are at the entrance to the beach. The only mobility problems may be on entering the beach as the sand is "soft" if you know what I mean. But if your dad takes it easy and maybe with a little help he should be fine. There are waiters who will come to your seats on the beach and provide you with drinks if you would like one (at a fee of course).
The water at Serenity bay is very calm - no waves, and not very deep. You can easily take a chair to the edge of the water and lounge partially submurged. I think your parents should feel very relaxed. Oh, and there are umbrellas so you can sit out of the sun if you wish.

A little history on Castaway Cay....The island was originally "owned/used" by Pablo Escobar who was a drug kingpin in South America. The runway that the tram travels on to get to Serenity Bay is the same one used by Escobar to fly onto and off the island. There was a family who owned/lived on the island (in an area that is now off limits) before Escobar. Somewhere on the web is the story of a man who went back to the island on a Disney cruise and tried to find his old family homestead, but was quickly ushered away from the area. If you watch the movie "Blow" with Johnny Depp, there is a scene where a plane lands on the same island. It is easy to recognize that it is the same runway.

Thanks for walking me through this. Very helpful!!! My parents are often at the Jersey Shore so the sand is familiar turf! Glad to know there's a bbq nearby. And who wouldn't love a beverage served beachside!

Great history lesson. I just saw that movie last month. Remember the plane scene but never knew the connection. My father is a big history buff. It'll be interesting to travel along part of that airstrip!

This trip keeps getting better!

Im sure we could get a pretty cheap one at a grocery store! If someone else orders it, ill pick it up! LOL

There are a couple of grocery stores between Florida Seafood Bar & Grill and CI&S. We could pick up a cake on the way back from supper.
Actually, we'll be there early enough in the day that I can call and make sure they have one ready for us. We could turn it into a "dual" birthday cake.
Naomi's son is having a birthday during the cruise too, isn't he?

Yep! His 9th birthday is on the 24th, (cc day) And we are hoping that we can book the parasailing just for that reason! I had thought about getting a cake, but it would be cool doing it when we get to CI&S..... that would be sweet!

Did someone say CAKE? :cake: Sounds good to me! I think it should be huge, two layers in the shape of the "Dream" with a big chocolate aqua duck slide and a tiny little adult pool. :lmao: If Chance is ok with it, then I am too.
