I have a question for all of you experienced cruisers :goodvibes

My group is looking at flying in the day before and staying at the CI&S near the port (that many of you recommended). We don't really want to rent a car (but will if it's neccessary.) - Is it possible to take the DCL Ground Transfer to the port on Saturday and then grab a taxi to the hotel? I'm just wondering if our ground transfer has to be on the day of our cruise.

I am pretty sure that DCL transport only runs on days that the cruise ship is pulling into port and leaving port, otherwise the busses run the ME routes at the park to "help"
Personally, I think renting a car is the way to go.

I think a car is the only option. I believe that you can do a one-way car rental from MCO to the port - I don't remember which rental car company has a site there, but I believe there is one. Renting a car for a day should be a lot less than paying Disney to get your group there.

This is correct. There are quite a few rental car companies that have offices in port canaveral. A one way rental is pretty cheap, we are renting a mini van for 89 (including tax) on the way there, and 135 (including tax, a full day and partial day) on the way back. Our Minivan is through Budget, as we cant feasibly take anything smaller with four adults and one child. Plus luggage

We ended up getting a car service to take us and pick us up, as we're a big enough group that a 12-passenger van makes more sense than two or three cars. So depending on how large the group is, you may want to check into that.

Hi BELLA , That sounds like a good idea.............but I don't think it will work...reason #[1] Is there a cruise on Sat21,2011....no Disney cruise= no need for ground transportation to the port. #[2] you have to be on that cruise to use the Ground transportation. #[3] And last but not least.....your bags....they would be going straight on to the ship.....and you and your friends would be going to CI&S at the port. ...Good try dear. Why don't you guys just rent a van,we got one .......I want to say from Dollar last year for under $50.00 for a day. Please note; if you do rent a rental from the airport to the port[It is less than 75 miles], make sure you top off the gas tank and make sure you get a gas receipt.......and I will repeat...make sure you get a gas receipt BECAUSE some of the rentals at the port[only 62 miles MCO to the port] will charge you a sir-charge if you don't have one to show them. The sircharge use to be $10.00. Read the FINE print on the rental contract. AND COME ON BELLA AND YOUR BUNCH AND LETS GO MAY 22 CRUISIN":thumbsup2

Thanks everyone!

I figured that was the case. I looked up to see if there was a cruise that day after I posted and saw there wasn't. I've started pricing rental cars and it's not bad- I just have to talk it over with my family. (And of course I can never get them to decide on anything...)

Is it May yet?! :cheer2: Let's go cruisin!

My cruise buddies were like this, all wishey washey. I finally said FINE, Ill book it, and let you know what your share is for everything! So far, for rentals and hotels, we are sitting at just over 100per person (with me obviously paying 200 cause of my kiddo)

we made our reservations at CS&I. I will be the one at the kiddie pool while my husband and daughter in the big persons pool, (cant swim very well, hope the ship stays afloat lol ).

:thumbsup2 Thanks for coming to CI & S with us. You guys will not be disappointed that hotel is "top shelf" in my book, we have stayed there 2 different times before cruisin'. Their morn. br'fast are really nice also. And don"t eat too much ....because we will be having a lunch buffet @ 12:30 on the ship. :goodvibes

Thanks everyone!

You could always claim that shes an Alaskan "foreign exchange" penguin! :lmao:

:cool1: HI P. I. ..........and where have you been???? The bad: will not be coming east to pick you , Jim, & IRONMAN up. The good: the airplane tic's came down , [saving $120.00 one way], so we are flying................I just need a good " PAT-DOWN"...........ask JIM. :lmao:

oh I've been lurking! Just watched the Dream leave the Port. She'll pass by the Jetty park cam in a few mins.

Tell that TSA agent to at least buy you a drink first!

We're getting ready to drive Mark down for the College Program. Looks like Belladisneydancr is a Fall 2011 CP hopeful! I wish you the best of luck!

To everyone else - hello again! I have really been having a blast reading all the posts.

Don't worry......let her do her thing............I was always wanting to dress up as a DUCK on pirate night. :lmao: :rotfl2:

Your DD could always throw on an eyepatch with the Penguin outfit and call herself a "Polar Pirate". And, glad to hear you'll be at CI&S with the rest of us.

PI: Glad to hear from you. You guys have a very safe trip to sunny FLA and best of luck to your son. I'm sure he'll enjoy his new endeavor. A friend of mine has 2 sons who did the program and they really enjoyed it. In fact one of her sons stayed on permanently, giving them a great excuse to travel to WDW a couple of times a year.

: Good luck to you also, didn't realize you were anticipating a CP also, must have missed that. What area near Pittsburgh are you from?
I'm originally a Uniontown girl myself, born in Waynesburg and my parents were from Mt.Pleasant.

Don: Whatever floats your boat:donald:. Hey, you never answered if you want me to bring you a couple of hush puppies from the restaurant......you have a couple of weeks yet to decide.;)

Well, it's finally snowing here this morning. Have about 3 inches since last night.

I'm from Fairchance!! Wow.. it really is a small world! And thank you for the good wishes!

thanks for all the "penguin" advice. if she still wants to dress as a penguin at time of cruise, guess i will have to let her. in years to come it will be funny for her to remember dressing like a penguin when everyone else dressed as a pirate.:ccat:

my daughter said she would like for someone to dress as a duck. i believe you two would be the hit of the party.....:cool1:

Just watching the latest DCL videos of the Dream. They have some up of the bars/nightclubs now as well as the adults only restaurants.

Wonder how the first cruise is going? Did you see them Husurdady?

I'm a little jealous, but soon they'll be done and we'll still have something to look forward to :goodvibes

If anyone has little ones and needs pirate ideas there were some cute outfits in the Chasing Fireflies catalog that came in the mail today.

I also got a catalog of bathing suits. It's snowing out here and this is what arrives in my mailbox? Is it time to start thinking about that already :scared1:
