Dream: May 22, 2011

I had read a thread that said you could request your dining rotation. Just got off the phone with DCL and was told, no, that you can't do that. Guess it just depends on who you get when they answer the phone?

My understanding was that you can't request it, but you can ask them to notate your preference, but there's no guarantee, of course. I might have old information, though.

I do know that you can change it once you get on the boat (we've done this before). All you do is go to the lounge where people are making Palo reservations, and they'll have a table where you can make changes to the rotation.

Does anyone know FOR SURE how much parking will be for our cruise if we park at the port? I keep seeing on the boards people saying 15/night, and others are saying 20! help!

I have heard that the port in Miami has gone up to $20 and that this port will soon follow suit. So that is where they may be getting the info from. For now it is still $15 a night but COULD go up at any time.

Henlady - Thanks for the info. I will go ahead and bring my stamp just incase. It would be nice to be able to spread some Disney magic before the cruise even begins!! I do hope that IF someone does need a Notary that they will scream out and ask for one and not just assume that their vacation has been ruined!!

It may be a little late but I finally finished my FE. Well almost. I still have to put the dowel rod on. I am proud even if it is not perfect. I cannot sew at all so it is completely iron on. Warning. It may fall apart when gifts are put in. haha! It is ok if it does, just lay them by the door. One pocket for me and hubby, one pocket each for my 12 year old daughter and niece, otherwise known as Mo Jo (Morgan and Jordan). I will post a pic soon.

This creates a huge debate on the boards all the time!! I know there are quite a few people out there who are of the "Disney says no shorts so NO SHORTS!!!" opinion, but I have to disagree. All of the dinner outfits I have bought for my two little boys are dressy shorts paired with a polo and in some cases a sweater vest. They honestly look very dressed up in these outfits, and then can be comfortable in the kids club while DH and I finish our dinner in peace ;) It's not like I'm letting them come to dinner in swim trunks and flip flops. They'll be nice and neat and well dressed and will hopefully not ruin anyone's dinner :rotfl:.

I have seen some of the nasty debates about this subject and I am not trying to make it worse, but I do have a question regarding dress since this is our first cruise. What do people wear around the ship during the day, such as in the theatre, kids clubs, activities, etc. Are casual (gym shorts) and t-shirts the norm?

After seeing some responses about dinner attire, I have been afraid to ask on other boards, but i know that my fellow cruisers on the Double Deuce Cruise are too nice for that.

Steph: You did a very nice job on the FE. It's cute.

With regard to "what to wear", I've also read many of those debates and I understand what you mean about them getting heated.
What I've seen people wearing during the day on the ship is pretty much "anything goes". Mostly you will see people in bathing suits & coverups or shorts and tops/T's. I do believe that they ask that people wear a coverup over their bathing suit when they leave the pool areas to go to the buffet or other parts of the ship. Most do this, some don't, some should :scared1:.
As for the meals in the Dining room: They do state "No shorts", and I agree with this for ADULTS. In the dining rooms on the cruise, most women wear slacks, skirt or dressy capris and a nice top, or a sundress or other type of dress. Most men wear khaki's/trousers and a polo or casual button front shirt. The only time I really notice what anyone is wearing is if it is totally out of place, like if a guy was in the dining room in gym shorts and an oversized sleeveless T shirt with underarm hair hanging out, that would probably make me cringe. I would never say anything and totally look the other way because looking at that would ruin my meal.

Just off the phone with CI&S.... they gladly took our cruise package off for us. Granted we are still at the 159 rate for four adults and one child....... but it took the woman less than a minute to get it done, and said that its never a problem to add or remove the cruise package......
also, i called them directly, not the 800 number for reservations

Naomi, what type of room did you get for the $159 rate, and does that include tax? What was your total with the package?

We also talked to the front desk, so now I'm curious as to what's going.

I made the reservation back in November, as the 2q and the pull out suite because we needed four adults and one child. at that time, I made it without the cruise package. I called in Feb (i think) when we decided to do a round trip rental, instead of two one ways. They added the 20 onto the reservation. I think they were able to take it off because I didnt initially book it as a park and cruise package, but as an add on, if that makes sence.

I just saw on CI&S website for Cape Canaveral that they are running a "48 hour special". A room only for 2 adults is listed as $100.80(not including tax).
A "21 day advance" booking is listed as $126.00(not including tax) for 2 adults. These are NOT Cruise & Park specials.

Hope this helps someone get a better deal.

Kris,

We saw that deal too. it was tempting but w/ the cruise pkg we're paying 158.84 for the one bdrm suite (incl all taxes). Base rate 143.10. The 48 hr rate came to around $11.00 in savings w/out the pkg.

We decided to leave it alone in case my parents opt to take the shuttle over a little later that morning.

Too bad w didn't snag the carlson F&F deal on this room - the rate for the other room is 77.70!

naomi,
we made our rsvp in Jan 2011 and also added the cruise pkg later. Not sure why we have a lower base rate than you. Rooms seem to be the same and who knows if the clerk we spoke to about dropping the pkg had the right information.
You might want to grab the 48 hr deal. click on "view all rooms" to bring up the discount for the 1-bdrm suites. It was around 132.00

Prayers are needed. Georges' sister had a heart attack and is in the ICU. Please think of them tonight.

MTmomma, how is George's sister doing? I hope everyone is okay

hey. havent been on here for several days. our town had 5 or 6 tornados touchdown this week on the same day. we and my family are very fortunate to be ok. none of our homes were damaged. 6 miles from my home, so many homes leveled, trees snapped in half and roots pulled out of ground, cars are missing from some homes, power still out in over half the town. about 3 miles from my home we only lost trees and in my area we had some trees down mostly limbs from trees everywhere. this place looks like a war zone literally. and appliances are laying everywhere. you can not imagine how this looks til you see it for yourself. 9 people lost their lives in our town alone. we only was without power 1 1/2 days. some will be without power 3 weeks or so predicted. school will be out at least through next week because no power and several schools may be damaged beyond repair. governor has issued a state of emergency here. can not count my blessings enough..

Thank goodness you are okay and sorry to hear what you've been though

i printed off the suggested packing list i found on disboards, for dinner it says no shorts- which i totally get for men, but for my son who is 10- does he need to wear khakis every night? i have him lots of "dressy" shorts with polos.. but if that is not appropirate, then i am going to have to hit the mall asap!!!

Thanks for asking, I was wondering that for DS(22 months) as well :goodvibes

It seems like it took forever to get here, but the trip is only weeks away! Our dd is graduating from college the week before and this is our present to her! We went back in 02 and we loved it, so I used our dvc points for this cruise. We cannot be more proud of her as she is graduating with a 3.8+ gpa. Sorry, just a proud mom! Anyway, my question is we have ressies at Palo one night (at sea) and I was wondering if we will still get the pirate dinner? pirate:We are on deck 6 and can't wait to meet everyone!

Congratulations, you must be so proud :cool1:

This cruise is my college graduation present, too! :cheer2:

Georges sister is holding her own, as far as I know. Both Terra and George are facing finals next week, so are laying pretty low, and nose to the books! :surfweb:
Re booked the hotel! saved us enough total to pay for our parking at the terminal!
Chance said, as soon as he woke up, "did you know that after today, there are only two more tuesdays until we go?"
Question though, what is the physical address of the terminal so that I can use my GPS?

I think the difference was, that when I was speaking about it, i was speaking with tax! I have this habit of speaking of all included charges, because obviously thats how I am budgeting this thing!

Taking a break from making my fish extender! I think I decided FINALLY how I am going to do both of them (T&Gs and Ours!) :lmao:

Naomi:
That is very considerate of you to make Tara & George's FE.
I'm going to have to print off the FE list and just wander around the ship checking out everyone's handi work.

I need a break too. It's "one of those days" at work (actually I am taking a few minutes break). But what I really want to be doing is sitting on the upper deck of the Dream in about 80-85 degree heat, with a soft ocean breeze and either a rum & coke or gin & tonic in my hand, leaning back in a comfy chair with my eyes closed......ahhhhh RELAXATION!!!:cloud9:

thanks to all of you who were thinking about my family and others here in the south during our recent bad weather we have had. eventhough my home and none of my families homes were destroyed we are all stressed here. we were all fortunate, but my brother and grandparents were extra fortunate because it was literally in their backyards with fatalities near both of them. still counting my blessings. cant wait until cruise time. we are counting down here with my daughter looking at calender and asking daily how much longer. hope everyone has a safe trip on their way to florida and i know once we are all there we will have a blast!!! i am planning on bringing extra larger drinking cups from our trip to disney last year, and also a snack bucket that held popcorn for any snacks we might see my daughter wants and we can put them in bucket for movie times.

Thanks for all of the info!! I haven't had time to really look at other forums- so I have totally missed the heated debates about attire!! (and I am kind of glad I missed that):hippie:
I am getting a little stressed about getting us all packed and ready, we leave 2 weeks from tomorrow to go to WDW for a few days before crusing!! Why I thought that would be a good idea, I'm not sure, but my kids are so excited about the coming weeks of fun!! :confused3
Since we won't be able to join the party at the hotel the night before the crusie, we will plan on meeting everyone at 3pm- :cool1:Can't wait!! Got to go get packing!!
:scared1:

If you are like me, I plan and make lists and stress over everything that I think needs to be done. What I have learned from Disney vacations is that it is good to plan, but do not stress over the little things. Lay back and relax and it will be the best vacation ever for you and your family.

We have not been to Disneyworld in almost 2 years and I am so ready to go back. Have fun for me too!!! See you on the Dream.
