Dream/Fantasy cabin 7520 - how obstructed is it?

Does anyone have pictures of cabin 7520? I know it's been re-classified as an obstructed view balcony cabin (category 7A), but how 'obstructed' is it? Does anyone have pics of any of the newly reclassifed 7A balconies? I'm looking to book one of these 7A cabins, but would like to know just how obstructed the views are.

Thanks!

I was on an October 2011 sailing of the Dream in 7518 (oceanview) and our friends were in 7520 (verandah). I went into 7520 but do not have any pictures to post for you. What I can tell you is that on the left side of the verandah is a white wall obstruction that limits your views looking to the forward section of the ship. The obstruction is not that large, but it is an obstruction that is not wide open as other verandahs. With this cabin next to an ocean view cabin the left side wall of the verandah is a common wall with 7518 and is a solid white wall. So the verandah is sort of enclosed on the left side with the common wall and the slight obstruction.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can answer any other questions.

This does help me quite a bit; thanks for posting. :) I was able to find pics of cabin 7170 online, which is also an obstructed view verandah, so I can see now exactly how the white wall would be an obstruction. I was also looking at the same oceanview cabin category as the cabin you stayed in - 7518. Since you've seen both of these types of rooms, would you recommend the oceanview room over the obstructed balcony room? I do like the fact that the oceanview room comes with the huge porthole window with the window seat. Actually, the oceanview room was my first choice, before I saw the 7A's for not that much more in cost.

Any thoughts?

I would recommend the ocean view room since it is in the family category and is larger. Basically the verandah area for 7520 is indoor space in 7518, thus making for a larger stateroom. The ocean view port hole is huge - 6 feet plus - it is almost floor to ceiling and very nice with a pad for sitting in the window ledge. Most family category rooms have a pull down murphy bed but 7518 does not. At the end of the vanity desk in an enclosed area that is a structural support for the ship and takes up some of the space where the murphy bed would be. 7518 does have the ceiling bunk bed, so it can sleep 4. 7518 also has the round shower with the overhead shower head that 7520 does not have as it has the regular bath tub and shower set up. I would choose the ocean view family stateroom over the verandah for several reasons:
1 - larger stateroom
2 - cheaper price
3 - round shower with the overhead shower head

From my cruise on October 2011 I know that we paid about $1100 less than our friends in 7520 and our room was much larger and they did not like the small traditional shower. I have seen other posts that on the DIS boards that the family oceanview rooms are very popular since they are such a great stateroom and such a great deal. You just have to balance out what the verandah is worth to you. I know for myself for the future after being in both stateroom categories that I would book the ocean view family stateroom for its size, the huge port hole for such great views, and the round shower.

This thread does show the cabin and the forward part blocked.

I did a review on 7022 which is just across the ship on port side...it is the same as 7520!

This is my review i posted:

This room was great. It is port side! It was a cat 5c at the time i sailed but due to a slight over hang causing a obstructed view from the veranda it was down graded to a 7A. The obstruction did not bother me. I actually used it to my benefit. We had some bad wind and rain on our cruise and i was able to sit out on the veranda in the blocked area and still have a great view of the ocean and stayed pretty dry. We also moved the veranda chairs in the area so they would be dry later to sit in. This room is great and I have booked 7520 that is just like this room only on the starboard side of the ship!

Here is a video that was posted on youtube for 7022, again it is like 7520 just on port side

Wow, THANK YOU so much for giving me your review and posting the link to your video. This helps so much! I'm definitely going to book the 7A cabin on deck 8. Woo hoo!!! :yay: Thanks again!

I think that SOME of these reclassified rooms are real bargains. I just booked the aft equivalent of # 8520 (#8662) on the Dream last week after these cabins were reclassified. I compared the price to the old Cat 5B price and found that it was saving us $630 simply because of the reclassification! It was only a couple hundred more than booking a 9D and only about $100 more than the 8C family room. I studied all those same pictures very closely and decided that the obstructions (esp. on deck 8) were very minimal and that the ones on decks 7 & 8 look very similar to the old "secret verandah" cabins on decks 6 & 7 on the Magic & Wonder. I picked #8662 because I thought I'd rather be aft than forward and I wanted a non-connecting cabin and we only needed a room that slept 3.

I love finding a deal!!!! :goodvibes

(BTW if you click on the Cat 7A category on the DCL website they actually picture one of these rooms with an obstructed balcony outside and I think it's probably a very good representation of what the better ones are like.)

Too funny - I booked 8164, which is the same as 8662, just on the other side of the ship! I think it's called 'portside'. I too studied those pics like a hawk and the obstruction to 8164/8662 seemed very minimal, and was a great bargain for a balcony cabin. And it's for me and my DS, so we only need a room for 2.

I didn't realize the DCL website had pics of these 7A cabins - thanks for the tip! About to go check those out too. :goodvibes

Many thanks for posting your you tube link, weve booked 8520 on the Fantasy for 2013 and we slightly worried about the overhang but u have definately put our minds to rest and made us realise we got a brilliant price for our room, the room next door with a verandah would have cost us £400 more so Thanks alot xxxx
