I'm day dreaming this afternoon and was just thinking about where I would put a DVC resort if I could choose anywhere.

I would love to have one closer to home - since I'm in the Midwest (WI to be exact) - I would love to have a DVC resort on Mackinac Island. - I'm sure this would make many midwesterners cringe but sorry - it would be beautiful and quant.

So where would you build your resort???

The economics of points-based timeshare resorts (such as DVC) work at all-year destinations, or at least places that people will visit all year if the points are low enough. By structuring a point chart properly, the resort should operate at high occupancy all year. That doesn't work in places where there is no demand part of the year.

Good all-year destination include San Diego County, the California wine country, and urban locations such as San Francisco and New York City.

The problem with urban locations is the high land, construction, and operating costs.

I would like to have one close to me also, but not to close. I think there should be one in New England We have beaches and skiing so there can be year round activities. The White MTS. would be nice ( the south portion) you have lake Winnapisakki (?spelling)and the white MTS. there are numerous summer time fairs and sights to see.

I think Myrtle Beach, New Orleans, San Diego, and a Colorado Ski Resort City would make great US additions.

But, I think it's time for the DVC to go international. DLP & DLT would be great choices along with Caribbean locations (maybe even Castaway Cay?), London, Sydney, Buenos Aires, Rome, and even Dubai IMO.

There's a lot of expanding that DVC could do for sure.

Oh man...I'd love a DVC in Rome! Could easily stay a week, plus with the train/bus system in Italy you could go up to Florence, Venice, or down to Naples very easily.

Honestly, a DVC in Michigan does not appeal to me. Perhaps one somewhere along the coast of Maine, close to Portland/Freeport. But winter stinks up there!

San Diego seems obvious I think...great weather and so much to do.

I'm thrilled about the Ko'Olina resort!

Bermuda would be just about perfect, or some other nice Caribbean local, Antigua, St. Lucia to mention just a few. But Bermuda...top of my list!

A Carribbean location would be great for east coasters!

Oh what about Belize or Costa Rica?

In USA: Florida Gulf (Fort Walton, Destin, Long Boat Key)

Outside USA: Mayan Riviera, Mexico

I know neither would ever happen, but these are places I like to visit now.

I believe DVC owners used to be able to book the Grand on Mackinak on points...

I agree that the caribbean would be great for those of us east of the Mississippi where the highest % of DVC owners live. HI is a great option every 3-5 years at most for us due to the high cost of airfare and travel time required to get there.

DVC owners could use points at the Grand hotel through the Concierge Collection as well as the Windsor in New Orleans, Atlantis in the Bahamas, The Sonama Mission Inn in the wine country, a great tandem with the Fairmont in San Francisco. Disney has tryed out many of the locations mentioned in this thread. The current Concierge Collection still has some great options for points and all of the accomodations are top notch. I hope every year that Disney expands the Concierge Collection, buy it has not grown in the last few years. When I inquired into the Concierge Collection destinations the Disney response was that they streamined the choices to the locations most used by members. I am sure that any future DVC locations will be chosen from market research, but suggestions from members do play a role in getting location considered.

Does the Concierge Collection include Atlantis in the Bahamas? Thought it did not...that would be nice if it did. I read somewhere that it used to include the Atlantis. Can someone confirm...

Ok back to the topic...I would love a DVC resort in Paris (not at the Disney Resort near paris, but in the heart of Paris), oh and I second Rome. One can dream...

Put one in Tahoe, Vail or Aspen and I'll be a happy camper!

BTW... I don't get the appeal of Mackinac Island... I would die of boredom, if the smell of horse crap doesn't kill me first!

One in Tokyo would be great, maybe take over part of the MiraCosta, would make those stays so much more affordable. And while they're at it, one in Disneyland Paris as well. :-)

However, Castaway Cay should be left alone. I think part of its appeal is that it feels like an "untouched" island, where you are the only people arriving for the day and then leave again in the evening (aside from the cast members, but they live backstage). And I'm sure they are glad that they don't have guests on the island every day. Gives them time to clean up.

Another vote for the Caribbean! Hawaii is just too far away for a lot of east coast families, but most Caribbean destinations are just a short plane ride.
Not Castaway Cay though - don't think there is much else going on there outside of the cruise ship stuff, also need to have a major airport to make it accessible.
My vote is for Grand Cayman! :cloud9:

LOL Couldn't imagine staying on most caribbean islands longer than a day, they are fine as cruise destinations, but I'm glad when I can return to the ship in the evening and go somewhere else.

I love the Castaway Cay idea. It would be great to be there without the ship in the port - so peaceful.

No it wouldn't. Castaway Cay has a well known serious bug issue. Once night falls the CM's that live there do not venture outdoors.
