Dream come true trip - Birthday at Disney dining report - Update 10/23 (Crystal Palace bfast)

Getting all caught up so first and foremost HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! Looks like you were at Flying Fish celebrating your birthday when we were right next store in Epcot having our anniversary dinner ; )

First love all your world showcase snacks and props for your restraint in the alcohol department ; ) No chance I could pass up an avocado margarita, plus for next time remember there is a vegetable in there ; )

Love your parents birthday cake for you and all the decorations. You're definitely a very lucky woman. Speaking of lucky, massive score on all the GF sweets. My best friend has celiac disease so I know how hard it can be to find anything, let alone something good.

So happy your Flying Fish meal was all you wanted it to be. It's one of my all time favs, so glad it didn't disappoint you.

The Wave Breakfast - 9/11

Today was our Magic Kingdom day and since we were staying at MK until 1am for Night of Joy, I made a slightly later breakfast ADR so we didn't make it to rope drop. We had an 8:30 reservation and were seated promptly. The Wave is very modern and contemporary - also very quiet! It looked like many of the guests were there for breakfast before a business meeting and I didn't see any kids there - most were all adults or teenagers. So if you're looking for a quiet, low key breakfast, this is it!

IMG_2383_zpspm1zzweq.jpg

Me and mom ordered coffe (our usual) and water while dad ordered iced tea. We all went with the buffet - it was a better deal with the DDP and everything looked good! The chef came by to speak to me about my allergies and took me on a tour of the buffet. She showed me what was safe and also made me some gluten free Mickey waffles- yum! I actually can't find the photos from my dad's meal - I have no idea where they are! I checked my phone and MacBook and they've disappeared. But he tried basically what my mom did since they tried a little of everything ;) I do apologize for not having his photos though!

My mom got a bowl of fruit for the table - it contained cantaloupe, oranges, and grapefruit. It was garnished with fresh mint and my mom didn't care too much for that so I ended up eating most of it (mainly the oranges and grapefruit). It was very fresh! And I thought the mint gave it a good flavor.

IMG_2384_zpslape4siz.jpg

Starting at the top middle & going clockwise on my mom's first plate -

French toast bread pudding, eggs benedict, ham & cheese frittata, a biscuit, cream cheese danish, butter for the biscuit & grits, cheese grits, and in the middle is the potato casserole. She loved the bread pudding! It was basic bread pudding with nuts, raisins, and cinnamon. I believe the sauce was a caramel? Definitely off limits for me of course, so I didn't try it. She went back for more later. She's never tried eggs benedict so decided a buffet was the perfect place to get a taste of it. It contained ham. She really liked it, but said it would be better without the sauce (she's not a fan of sauces though). The sauce was a key lime hollandaise. She said the lime flavor wasn't too heavy, so she didn't notice it too much. She liked the frittata but didn't rave about it - it was just eggs with ham and maybe some light parmesan cheese? I don't recall if it had cheese for sure but it didn't really taste like it. If it did, it was very light on the cheese! I didn't hear the end of it about those grits - she loved them! i've always heard great things about them and apparently everyone's right - they are great! They contained cheese and bacon. Usually she just likes plain grits but loved these.

IMG_2385_zps75xgurew.jpg

My 1st plate as I waited on my Mickey waffles -

Ham frittata, eggs, swiss cheese slices, cottage cheese, & strawberries. The frittata was SO good! I loved it. I of course went back for another one. Now that I see this photo I do recall that it also had tomatoes in it. The eggs were your standard eggs, but tasted fresher than at other buffets.

IMG_2386_zpseuldcq0g.jpg

A photo of my oatmeal - just plain steel cut oats. But I love Disney oatmeal!

IMG_2388_zpsg580eij2.jpg

And my Mickey waffles  Back before I couldn't eat gluten, I would only grab 2 off the buffet to control myself, so when the chef brought out 4, I knew I was in trouble :rotfl:I kept pushing the plate away after 2 but I gave in & ate them all  They were just so good!

IMG_2389_zpszsymyu5t.jpg

And my 2nd plate - another frittata! These things went fast but luckily were quickly replenished. All the items on the buffet were replenished quickly, so it was all very fresh! This frittata had just been put out on the buffet, so it was very fresh and hot. Yum! And more cottage cheese & strawberries. Can you tell I love cottage cheese?:rotfl2: And I also got a little spoonful of plain greek yogurt. I was so happy they had plain, unflavored greek yogurt! Most buffets only have the flavored & I like to forgo the sugar in my yogurt.

IMG_2391_zps9kqw8iwi.jpg

And this is my mom's 2nd plate -

Mickey waffles, sweet potato pancakes, more grits, eggs, and more bread pudding! She liked the Mickey waffles (who doesn't?) and enjoyed the sweet potato pancakes but said the Mickey waffles were much better. She obviously loved the grits & bread pudding so much that she went for another serving :rotfl2:

IMG_2390_zpsjqvalsby.jpg

I do recall that the only thing my dad tried that my mom didn't was bacon. Just looking at it, you could tell that it was thicker than most bacon at Disney. He had at least probably 10 strips on his plate and I think he even went back for more, so it must have been good ;)

Overall, we loved The Wave! We all thought it was a great deal if paying OOP - especially since I would have received a 10% discount if we didn't use DDP. The total came to $70.26, not including tip. So that is a VERY reasonable price for a buffet for 3 adults! And it's just a quick walk (or hop on the monorail) to MK :cool1:

Aloha Isle- 9/11

Well this will be a quick little review :rotfl:It had been a few hours since we had eaten and we wanted a snack (and it was hot!) so we thought it was time for a nice Dole Whip :) My dad doesn't like pineapple, so I told him about the citrus swirl & he decided to get that while we went over to Sunshine Tree Terrace. Well, I saw someone get a citrus swirl & it looked good, so I figured "why not get a Dole whip during our 2nd MK day and get the citrus swirl today?" So me and mom also decided to go for the citrus swirl.

It's orange soft serve and vanilla soft serve swirl. I love how soft the vanilla soft serve but the orange soft serve was a little icy and not too creamy. It was good, but pretty tart. We also found that while the orange didn't melt fast, the vanilla soft serve melted much more quickly and it ended up being a little messy. We thought it was good, but prefer our Dole whips much more! And of course my dad enjoyed what he calls "real ice cream" much more :rotfl2:

IMG_2462_zpsnobmcfsn.jpg

But we will be getting a Dole whip soon ;)

Next up - breakfast at Olivia's Cafe!

I have been eyeing up the Wave's breakfast buffet for a while now. Seriously that looks so so yummy. The sweet potato pancakes and the bread pudding, especially!

I have been eyeing up the Wave's breakfast buffet for a while now. Seriously that looks so so yummy. The sweet potato pancakes and the bread pudding, especially!

My mom talked about the bread pudding all day! She said its definitely not a typical breakfast food but that didn't stop her from eating 2 servings of it ;)

The food was so fresh! I honestly have no idea how anyone could look at the buffet and decide to order off the menu instead!

Their breakfast buffet at The Wave looks so good. Also I love the entrance to the restaurant.

Cosmic Ray's Dinner - 9/11

Even though I have no photos from this, I thought i'd go ahead & post a review on Cosmic Rays. This was on the night of Night of Joy and me and my dad were so caught up in rides that we got a late start to dinner. We went over to Columbia Harbor House at 5:05 only for them to tell us they closed at 5 so some youth leaders could meet up there. We honestly didn't have many options. I believe Casey's Corner and Cosmic Ray's were are only 2 choices and I don't eat hot dogs (eww) so that led us to Cosmic Ray's.

The menu was VERY limited that night. Me and my mom dad went to different bays because he actually really wanted a hot dog while I just wanted to stay away from burgers and hot dogs :rotfl:I asked if they had a gluten free menu and the cashier quickly gave me one and paged the manager to come talk to me. As I looked at the gluten free menu I noticed that nothing on the allergen menu was actually being offered when I looked up at the board. The chef came out and he was great! I asked about the options since none were on the main menu on the boards and he said "i'll make you whatever sounds good even if it isn't on either menu". I just asked for the grilled chicken sandwich & apple slices as my side. For the dessert, I got the mango sorbet.

My dad ordered a hot dog and fries. He was almost done eating by the time I made it over. He said his meal came out within 2 minutes of ordering it so he knew it was basically just reheated. He wasn't too crazy about his meal. He ordered the carrot cake for dessert and said it was good, but a little too sweet.

I, on the other hand, really enjoyed my meal. I always hear bad things about Cosmic Rays but I loved my meal. Of course it wasn't on par with places such as Columbia Harbor House or Sunshine Seasons, but I enjoyed what I ate. It was very fresh - of course that may have had something to do with it being cooked when I ordered it ;) The chicken was seasoned really well. It came with cheese & bacon but I took that off & my dad had no issue topping his fries with that :thumbsup2 The sorbet was incredible! I was full after my sandwich, so I decided to save the apple slices for later and really wasn't hungry for the sorbet but I was sad it was gone when I finished it. IT was very sweet to be no sugar added, but I enjoyed it.

So while I give Cosmic Ray's a B, my dad would probably rate it a D :(

Olivia's Cafe Breakfast - 9/12

Olivia's is one of our favorite places to dine for breakfast! We tried it on our last trip in December 2013 and absolutely loved it so it is definitely a must-do on each trip. We also made it a late breakfast ADR (about 9:30) since me and my mom were at Night of Joy the night before and didn't get back to CBR until 2:30 am and didn't go to sleep till 3:30  My dad was well rested since he didn't care to hear any of the artists at NOJ and left at 10pm when he got tired of riding rides alone :rotfl:

So we arrived and were surprised at how busy it was! We had a later ADR back in 2013 too but we were one of the only groups there. I guess everyone is finally discovering this hidden gem.

We started with the drinks - tea for dad and coffee for me & mom. Let's just say that the waitress brought out about 4 pitchers of coffee in the 1 hour we were there - and we were still about to fall asleep! The coffee was good, but we totally forgot about them having the press pot

I received the allergen menu and was satisfied with the choices I had so I didn't ask to speak to a chef, but the waitress did offer to bring her out for me. I was the only one of the 3 of us who tried something new since our last experience at Olivia's - and that's because they no longer serve the "Build your own omelet :confused3

I went with the Monroe egg white omelet - egg whites with roasted red peppers, spinach, mushrooms, & goat cheese with a side of sliced tomatoes & a biscuit. I received gluten free toast, of course, since the biscuit was off limits. I absolutely loved this omelet! I thought it was much better than the one at WPE. The goat cheese makes this dish! The peppers also gave it a good flavor but didn't overpower it at all. I would definitely order this dish again.

IMG_2543_zpsuia8vigi.jpg

Dad went with the Sombrero beach omelet - an omelet with ham, peppers, onions, & cheddar cheese topped with sour cream & pico de gallo with a side of breakfast potatoes & a biscuit. My dad loved his omelet, once again and I was dying to try a bite of it. If he didn't have a biscuit or potatoes on the plate, I would have stolen a bite ;) And I didn't think I would hear the end of it about those breakfast potatoes -he absolutely loved them :rotfl:I have no idea what was in them but he said it tasted like a potato casserole with bacon, cheese, and sour cream. He loved it though!

IMG_2541_zps3n4ix8zv.jpg

Mom chose one of her favorite dishes at Disney - Banana bread french toast - with Bahamian banana rum syrup, coconut whipped cream, & choice of protein (ham, sausage, or bacon). She loved this as usual. It's basically like thick slices of banana bread grilled and topped with those amazing toppings mentioned above. Coconut whipped cream sounds absolutely heavenly. Ugh I wish Olivia's could make a gluten free version of this - although that may be dangerous for me ;) She chose bacon as her side and said it was just ok. She ended up giving most of it to my dad. He thought the bacon at the Wave was better.

IMG_2542_zpsyt6ds5r3.jpg

Of course we'll be heading to Olivia's again - no doubt about that! We paid OOP for this meal since it was very inexpensive and I received a 10% off discount with my Disney Visa. I believe the total came to $43 after the discount!

And up next is dinner at Wolfgang Puck Express.

Wow both of your breakfasts look great. Never tried either the wave or Olivia's and it looks like I'm definitely missing out. Especially that banana bread French toast, yum!

Wolfgang Puck Express dinner - 9/12

We headed over to Wolfgang Puck Express after our day at the outlet malls. I had already spent a ton of money at Disney, so I really didn't care to do too much shopping so it was actually a pretty short shopping excursion. We were just going to eat at a restaurant in Orlando near the mall, but we had plenty of QS credits to burn so we decided on WPE - plus we had a carriage ride booked over at Port Orleans and it's just a boat ride away when at Disney Springs.

I was surprised it wasn't that busy at 5:30pm but once we ordered and sat down, everyone started rushing in! Even though it's a QS, you order at the counter, take a number to your table, grab your drinks, and head to your table. You are served your meal by a waiter and they will also grab you refills. So it's basically a mixture of a QS & TS. The food is much better than your average QS, but it's also higher in price too. A great deal though, if on the DDP!

I didn't have many choices here so I went for the salmon dish - oven roasted salmon with cauliflower puree, marinated tomatoes, & broccolini. I asked if I could skip the cauliflower puree and substitute it with extra broccolini. I needed as many veggies as possible ;) The broccolini was really good! Definitely much easier to eat than broccoli. It was sautéed perfectly and seasoned great. Very soft & tender, which is always good because I usually make a mess with broccoli :rotfl2: The salmon was incredible! The tomatoes gave it great flavor and it was very tender - cooked absolutely perfectly! I hate when salmon is the least bit over cooked but this was perfect! I believe the meal was $20 so a great use of a QS credit for sure!

IMG_2548_zpsne9uckoc.jpg

After I told my mom & dad how much i'd heard about the meatloaf, they decided to both try it - bacon wrapped meatloaf with mashed potatoes, port wine sauce, and topped with onion rings.

This is a photo of dad's plate. He thought it was good but didn't see what all the hype was (since I said everyone on the Dis recommends it, he was expecting more I guess :rotfl:) but he said it wasn't bad at all - he would've rather had pizza instead. He loved the onion rings on top. He said it would've been better without the wine sauce, but that's probably because he isn't a huge fan of any types of wine sauce.

IMG_8080_zpszufqr9iz.jpg

Mom asked for a caesar salad instead of the potatoes & the wine sauce on the side since she also doesn't like wine sauce (what is wrong with us?) so her meal looks a little bland :rotfl2:

IMG_2547_zpsu8omsrjn.jpg

She ate the salad but HATED the meatloaf! She typically loves the meatloaf but the bacon that was wrapped around it was smoked and she gets sick when she eats anything smoked. I suggested she take the bacon off & maybe eat the middle part of the meatloaf but she said the entire dish tasted smoked due to the bacon. She gave my dad the onion rings and left pretty much 90% of the meatloaf. We thought the waiter may notice and offer to bring her a different dish, but when he asked if she liked the meal and she explained, he just removed the dish and returned with our dessert :confused3

Time for dessert! Dad chose the vanilla bean cheesecake with strawberry sauce. He said it wasn't so dense like most cheesecakes - it was very soft and more like mascarpone cheese. He really enjoyed it! Mom tried a little too and loved it. This was definitely a hit with my non gluten free parents!:thumbsup2
IMG_2549_zpsnvldkdv1.jpg

Me and mom went with the creme brûlée. We have NEVER tried creme brûlée so this was our first taste of it! We thought about maybe trying the frozen yogurt instead, but figured that since we had the DDP for free, why not use this opportunity to try some creme brûlée?

Well here is the creme brûlée topped with strawberries and blueberries. The inside is like a caramel tasting custard while the top contains a thin shell of caramelized sugar. Mom discovered that she doesn't really like creme brûlée while I discovered that I LOVED it :yay:
IMG_2551_zpst0ywwghi.jpg

And here's a photo of the inside -

IMG_2552_zpssiz8cvas.jpg

So overall, I enjoyed my meal at WPE. Dad somewhat liked his, and mom just hated hers. We will definitely return to WPE but i'm sure my parents will both order something different - probably a signature pizza. The total for this meal was $85.88 and all that was free thanks to the DDP - definitely a great use of a QS credit!! :thumbsup2

Up next is breakfast at Old Port Royale Food Court to start our Hollywood Studios day.

Old Port Royale Food Court breakfast - 9/13

Me and dad were heading to Hollywood Studios this morning while mom decided to stay at the resort and relax a little. She did decide to go to breakfast with us over at Old Port Royale. I always took a morning walk around the lake to start the day off with some nice relaxing exercise so I decided to get a head start since I would need to see what gluten free options were available at the food court.

The food court has 4 different stations and most open at different times. I believe 1 station opened at 6:30am, 2 opened at 7am, and 1 opened at 8am. So if you're planning to eat breakfast one morning at OPR food court, definitely check out the times the night before to see which stations open at what time - they are posted on the board at the front of the food court. Luckily the station I wanted to visit (the omelet station) opened at 7 and it was currently 7:30. I notified one of the servers that I had a gluten & peanut allergy and she had me move to the side while I waited on the chef. I forgot his name, but he was great! He asked if anything looked good and I had my eye on a key west omelet that was mentioned on the menu on Disney's official site, but it wasn't on the menu that morning so I instead asked if I could get the kids turkey & spinach omelet but in an adult sized portion. He said it was no problem at all. He even asked if there were other veggies I wanted in it, any meats, certain cheeses, etc.

I settled on an egg white omelet with spinach, grilled turkey, tomatoes, & cheddar cheese. He made the omelet separately from the other areas. The omelet typically comes with a biscuit, but I received 2 slices of gluten free toast (Udi's I believe). I also chose to use a snack credit on some pineapple - I always feel the need to eat some type of fruit with breakfast!

IMG_2560_zpsvjy8adqu.jpg

The omelet was very fresh and delicious! That's one thing I love about omelet stations at food courts & buffets - you know the omelet is JUST made and is totally fresh! I was very happy with my choice and very thankful that the chef was so accommodating!

My dad ordered the steak, egg, and cheese quesadilla. He sat down before I did and didn't feel like waiting on me to come over and take a photo, so he decided to take the photo on HIS phone and just text it to me. And if you can tell, he's not the best photographer :rotfl2:

His quesadillas, which were quite a large portion, contained steak (like the kind usually on Philly cheesesteaks), scrambled eggs, and cheddar cheese. He received a side of lettuce and sour cream. He ate the sour cream, but said lettuce just wasn't too appetizing for breakfast.

IMG_2556_zpslcwti0ns.jpg

Close up of the inside of the quesadilla

IMG_2557_zpsa4boxzuk.jpg

He liked his meal, but wasn't overly crazy about it. He regretted that he didn't order the huge Mickey waffle instead. And who can believe that he went the ENTIRE trip without eating 1 Mickey waffle???:scared1:

My mom chose the bounty platter which contained scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, bacon, sausage, french toast, & a biscuit. She really disliked this. She said it wasn't bad, but it just wasn't that great. She said it was very obvious that the food had been cooked and then simply reheated before it was set out to serve.

IMG_2558_zps2eoydict.jpg

So in the end, I was the only person satisfied with their meal. Apparently this is because I always received freshly cooked meals :confused3

But it was a nice hearty breakfast to start our day at Hollywood Studios.

Next up - snacks around Hollywood Studios & dinner at Mama Melrose.

Mama Melrose Fantasmic Dinner Package - 9/13

This was the year we finally decided to do the Fantasmic dining package! FP+ was kind of a waste when we used it for Fantasmic in 2013 and with us having the DDP for free, we thought using it for the package was a great deal!

How the package works is you have to make a specific ADR for the Fantasmic dinner package. Even if you get an ADR at Mama Melrose, Hollywood & Vine, or Hollywood Brown Derby, you can't just assume it includes seating for Fantasmic - always make sure you book the actual package. Just a tip, because I know that's a question on here a lot :) Once you are seated, the server takes your drink order and hands you the vouchers for the reserved seating. Fantasmic began at 8pm that night (only show that night) and our return time was 7:25-7:45. We showed up at 7:35 and were told to go through the FP+ line. We followed the FP+ line until we reached the theater. Seating for those with the package is in the Mickey section & the 1st Scar section (the middle, center sections of the theater) - these sections are roped off so you can tell which sections are for those with the package (though it was still a little confusing with the crowd of people). A CM stands at the top of each section and as you approach the Mickey and Scar section, you are required to show your vouchers. That's pretty much it. It was VERY confusing because of the huge crowds and not knowing what section to go to at first, but our seats were great! By the time we reached the theater (it's a little ways of a walk) it was 7:50 and we were about 6 rows from the top, but our seats were centered & really good.

Now to the food ;)

We arrived to Mama Melrose (our first time here!) and had about a 20 minute wait, despite being on time. They were running behind because they only served those with the Fantasmic dinner package that night - so of course everyone received 3 courses and that makes the whole dinner a little longer. Our ADR was for 4:45 and we were seated at 5:10pm. No big deal- we had used all our FP+.

We could choose a drink, an appetizer, & an entree EACH. It also included dessert but each person receives a dessert sampler trio. The waiter was great and went over the allergy menu with me but said I could speak to the chef if I needed to. I was fine with my choices, so declined but he was so willing to help me out with everything!

For appetizers, I ordered the mixed green salad and my parents each ordered the mozzarella & tomato salad.

Mixed green salad w/ tomatoes, cucumbers, artichoke hearts, feta cheese, and red wine oregano vinaigrette - this was delicious! I asked for no dressing (yes, i'm a rabbit :rotfl2:). The waiter kept talking about how great the dressing was but I turned it down. Honestly, this salad didn't even need dressing! The feta cheese gave it a ton of flavor but the artichoke hearts made it! I've actually never tried artichoke hearts in a salad but I loved this! I actually have them on my grocery list (if I can ever find them) so I can add them to some of my veggies at home.

IMG_2605_zpsea5zfxnv.jpg

Mozzarella & vine ripened tomates w/ balsamic & olive oil drizzle + basil - both my parents each ordered one of these. I really wanted this and was planning to get it as my appetizer, but figured I could use all the extra greens I could get to make up for my splurging! Both my parents loved this and just like the tomato salad at Flying Fish, they found the left over olive oil & balsamic were great to dip the breadsticks in. Since this was gluten free, my mom gave me a slice of tomato & piece of cheese and it was delicious! I will definitely order this next time.

IMG_2604_zpszey01heo.jpg

Speaking of breadsticks - these are the regular breadsticks everyone is served alongside some olive oil dipping sauce with herbs.

IMG_2608_zps6e9wfhsh.jpg

And yet again, I was able to participate in the bread course :jumping1: The waiter bought out gluten free rolls and a small bowl of olive oil. So i'm assuming the dipping sauce for the regular breadsticks contains gluten or may have a risk of cross contamination since my dip didn't contain any herbs? :confused3

IMG_2606_zps7yxwxq1e.jpg

IMG_2607_zpstn4kafb5.jpg

I loved my bread (but then again I rarely get gluten free bread at most places) while my parents just thought the breadsticks were ok. They thought Olive Garden's were better :scratchin

On to the entrees....

dad's choice - Charred strip steak with 5 cheese macaroni, balsamic shallot butter, & chianti wine reduction. He really loved his. He did wish there was more macaroni. He said that mac & cheese was delicious, but definitely needed to be a bigger portion. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium and was very tender. My mom doesn't like medium steak - she's one that loves well done, but she enjoyed her tiny taste of it!

IMG_2610_zpspbvzhzcr.jpg

Mom's choice - Spaghetti with meatballs & marinara sauce with romano cheese & parsley. She enjoyed it, but her stomach had been a bit queazy that day so this really isn't what she wanted.

IMG_2612_zpsodbkdwma.jpg

And my choice - Sustainable fish of the day - grilled grouper w/ shrimp risotto & brandy cream sauce. I did ask for no sauce and instead of the risotto, I just wanted some vegetables. The waiter was more than willing to substitute this. He definitely went out of his way with my allergies, which was great! The grouper was absolutely incredible! I believe it was seasoned with tarragon and lemon? IT was very tender and delicious. The vegetables included broccoli, onions, and sun dried tomatoes. I've never had sun dried tomatoes by themselves but I really enjoyed them! They had such a good flavor and matched perfectly with the fish.

IMG_2611_zpssvm4rgf4.jpg

Desserts - like I said, each person (when on the Fantasmic dining package) gets the dessert trio. Since none of the choices on the sampler were gluten free, the waiter said I could choose between the chocolate cake, a cheesecake, or sorbet. I went for the chocolate cake because I saw a review of it on gfinorlando.com and it looked delicious!

I just have one word for this chocolate cake. UNBELIEVABLE. It was amazing. The outside was like a hard ganache and the inside wasn't really like cake. It was just so smooth and silky. I honestly would say it tasted more like fudge covered in ganache. It was very rich but I couldn't stop myself from eating the entire cake. This ranks high on my list of best cakes!

IMG_2615_zpshzmfyf4z.jpg

IMG_2616_zps9j6b3jgq.jpg

And here is the Dessert Trio - amarettini cheesecake, tiramisu, & cannoli cake. My mom & dad both didn't care for the amaratini cheesecake but they still ate it. My dad gave my mom his tiramisu because he HATES coffee and my mom was so happy to receive that extra tiramisu because she loved it! They both enjoyed the cannoli cake the most and wanted to order a regular size of the dessert to split after :rotfl:

IMG_2614_zpsfubpqskb.jpg

Overall, we loved our dinner at Mama Melrose! It was a great deal with the DDP because the total came to about $125. After receiving great seats at Fantasmic so close to the show, we thought that even paying $38 per person OOP would be well worth it!

Your mama melrose meal looks great and definitely a good use of the dining credit. All of those salads sound delicious, but I'm a sucker for anything with an artichoke or fresh mozzarella. Your fish also looks yummy, even without the risotto ; )

The fish was so good! That was the great thing about the DDP- trying different types of fish! But since I've been back from Disney, no food tastes good anymore ;) I've been drinking protein and veggie smoothies for dinner every night just because it's the only thing that sounds good to me

Joining and enjoying your reviews! My ODD has a peanut (and many other) allergies, and my DH has a relatively new gluten and dairy intolerance, so I am finding this very helpful. We have been so pleased with Disney chefs. A major reason we have kept coming back! It really spoils you for "real world" restaurants!

The first restaurant we went to on the drive back home, we asked if one of the steamed veggies contained gluten. The cook jumped back and said "how would I know". Welcome home to me :(

They definitely spoil you! My parents, who have no intolerances, were jealous of all my "special" treatment ;) And the new line of peanut and gluten free packaged foods Disney has are incredible! Your daughter and husband should definitely try those.

Hollywood Studios - Snacks 9/13
First we started at Min & Bill's Dockside Diner early that afternoon for a light snack. It had been pouring down rain so the lines for rides were a little longer than usual. While I stood in line to meet Daisy (who left right when it was my turn to meet her due to the heavy rain :( ) my dad tried a shake at Min & Bill's Dockside Diner. They only had a chocolate shake or the seasonal shake, which ended up being Black Forest Cake. He chose the seasonal shake and it sounded so good! It's described as a cherry flavored shake with chocolate sauce mixed in and topped with whipped cream, more chocolate sauce, chocolate shavings, and a cherry. He had drank a little of it by the time I made it back from trying to meet Daisy. He really enjoyed it and thought it was a great use of a snack credit, but would've rather had a vanilla shake instead :confused3 He really needs to venture out from these vanilla shakes he always gets!

I had a chocolate covered Mickey ice cream bar, which I forgot to take a photo of, but we all know what it looks like and we all know how amazing those tastes ;)

Later I decided to give this a shot - it's from the new allergen line that Enjoy Life makes for Disney now. I believe they began selling these on September 1st. You can find them in most of the shops in each park. They have chocolate chip cookies, lemon cookies, chocolate bars, and the little beauty I tried below - chocolate sunseed bar. Ok, so to most of you this may not sound too appetizing. But for someone who can't eat gluten OR peanuts, this was like heaven! I can't find protein bars or granola bars anywhere that are safe for my allergies so I had to give this a try. It was so good! Probably one of my favorite snacks I tried. I honestly think even if you can eat gluten or peanuts, you'd enjoy this! It's basically like chocolate covered sunflower seeds in the form of a granola bar. It's a nice little pick me up - especially for just 150 calories!

They also had these cookies, which I also tried. They were soft baked. I didn't try them lemon (Darn!) but the chocolate ones were really good! Ok, so they were so good that I finished an entire pack of them in 2 days - and no I didn't share with anyone ;)

This trail mix was a good snack too and something I NEVER get to eat! They contained sunflower kernels, pumpkin seeds, raisins, dried apple slices, chocolate chips, and cranberries. I made a huge mess since I hate raisins, dried cranberries, and the dried apple slices and took those out. But everything else is great and i've actually been making this stuff at home to snack on mid day at work! All the bars and trail mix can be used as a snack credit but the bags of cookies cannot.

My only regret is not buying a bunch of the bars, trail mix, and cookies to bring home:scratchin

And now to the treat that everyone on the Dis talks about - the carrot cake cookie! We stopped by Writer's Stop before Fantasmic and I told my dad that he had to get this because it's all I heard about on the Dis! I couldn't eat it, but I still wanted him to try it so I could hear how it tastes. He was pretty full from dinner but I told him he could always eat it later so he used a snack credit on it and had it wrapped up to go. First off, this thing was HEAVY. I've never felt a bag with a cookie in it that heavy! He kept it in the bag and ate half the next morning before our breakfast. It was so big that he had half that morning, my mom had a few bites, and he had the rest later that night. He said it was very good but wished he had eaten it when it was fresh or wrapped it up better because it wasn't as moist and fresh as he expected. But he didn't even wrap it up that great when we arrived back to CBR that night so i'm sure that's why. He did like it though and suggests everyone give it a try!

So of course it looks like our snacking at Hollywood Studios was a success!

Next up is breakfast at Tusker House!
