Dream Aft rooms and vibration

Hi all,

We’ve just booked out first Disney cruise on the Dream and I’m having some trouble choosing a stateroom. I’ve already done a lot of research but I can’t seem to find the answer to this question.

We are looking to book an aft balcony room for the larger balcony size. I currently have 7194 booked, which looks like a great verandah. Reading the reviews, however, many complained of loud vibration noise. There are aft balconies available on deck 9 as well, but the balconies don’t appear as large as 7194.

Can anyone tell me if the vibration is felt or heard less on the higher decks, or is it the same everywhere aft? I’d be willing to sacrifice some balcony space for a quieter room.

Lastly, the other option that we were considering are the family verandas on deck 5 that are oversized. I was concerned about their proximity to the show lounge below. I have read what others have reported about these, but between the two, (aft vibration and potential show lounge noise), does anyone have an opinion on which is worse?

And yes, I realize I could book a nice quiet balcony mid-ship with none of these issues but it would be small. First world problems...

Thanks!

I've felt the vibrations on all the decks in the aft when you stop to notice it. Definitely more pronounced in the back which is a big reason we prefer mid or forward

The serious complaints about excessive vibration are reports for Fantasy staterooms. Look at the reviews and you'll notice that those mention that the Fantasy was the ship. The Fantasy has some mechanical problem that produces excessive aft vibration at times. It is not a structural problem, so it is not like that on the Dream.

We've sailed aft on the Dream, and liked it. All aft staterooms on ships have mild vibrations occassionally, especially when docking or sailing full speed, but nothing major and not all the time. That is what we experienced on the Dream. Mild vibrations on occassion. It was the same as when we sailed aft on the Magic & Wonder. It didn't matter which deck we were on. I've sailed aft on decks 5, 6, & 8, and it was the same. Not constant or bothersome, though.

Thank you both. I had read that the issues were much more noticeable on the Fantasy.

I’ll keep my aft and enjoy the space. I appreciate your help.

Make sure you write a review and let us know...I am thinking of booking 7194 on the Fantasy next summer. Yes, I know, the Fantasy is worse. We are sailing 8684 on the Dream in June so I will have an idea whether I can stand it or not.

We've stayed in this exact room. The loud, noticeable vibration happened when we were pulling into port. It only lasted a few minutes and didn't impact our overall enjoyment of our cruise. We almost always book aft rooms for the verandas and wouldn't hesitate to book this room again. We really enjoyed it.

Thanks, I’m so glad to hear the good experiences. Yes, I promise to come back and report. The cruise is not for another 11 months, so it will be a while.

I was in 8640 in December and it was perfectly fine. Some normal ship vibration going in and out of port but no other issues otherwise. Would 100% book that same room again.

Stayed in 7194 on the Dream for our first ever cruise. Great room, easy location, no vibration noticed.

The Dream-class ships have the vibration issues when the engines and thrusters need to rev up. There are three situations where you will experience them.

1. When the ship needs to speed up to cover a lot of ground (such as when returning from St Thomas/Tortola to Castaway Cay on the E Caribbeans itinerary)

2. When the ship needs to maneuver itself into a tight port space

3. When the seas are rough and the ship has to battle the water (generally in the hurricane season or the winter months)

Dream itself typically doesn't experience any of the above in the Bahamas, so you only hear about Fantasy's problems. As long as you are sailing outside of the troubled waters, you should be fine on Dream.

We have stayed in the cat 4E a couple times and have 2 more cruises booked in the same category. We have never heard any noise from a show below. We just love the large balconies!
