Dream 5-Night March 4, 2012

Hi everyone. Nothing like being fashionably late but we might be joining you all the the DDD. Me, DW and our 2 boys, 7 and 10. This will be our second Disney cruise, first one was Oct 2008 on the Magic. We've tried twice to go back and for whatever reasons we've had to cancel twice. This is definitely a last minute decision but DCL released a number of cabins so people must have cancelled out too. Obviously we won't be able to join in the FE and the kids will be spending all their time in the clubs again so we'll be the loaners hanging out on deck.

We are experienced DCL cruisers, myself DW and boys 11 & 14.

I put 5 pairs of shorts in the suitcase today. Does that count?

I just got our journals back from the printer. I also wished I could have had the dining pages in the right order, but they're together as a section so think it will work! The lady at the desk was very excited to hear all about the trip!

We are planning on booking onboard, if we like it! What I really mean is, as long as we don't all get horribly seasick!
March break is our only time to get away really, so we're looking at the same time next year, maybe caribbean this time? Anyone done a caribbean itinerary?
I think it's worth picking something, for the discount, even if we change the dates later on.

Lynn and I are booked for January 5,2012 Western Carribean on the Fantasy. It was booked onboard to get the discount. We have done both Western and Eastern. Eastern three times, once was with RCCL out of San Juan. Four times in Western all with DCL. But this time we will be doing Costa Maya which we never have done.

If you book on board....how far out do they book? I know we cant afford a cruise in 2013, but maybe year after.

You can book as far out as the DCL schedule goes. At this time their schedule goes through Dec. 2013. You can book for a date in 2013, it's called a dummy booking, then just slide it out to 2014 when that year's schedule comes out.

Hi Everyone,
This is particularly aimed at those who have joined recently.

Many have mentioned either joining the FE group or being sad you're missing out.

I think there's 6 new families with around 16 new people?

Any of you like to start a second FE group?

Unfortunately the first FE group closed a month ago.
Why doesn't one of you start another group? There may be some from the first group that would also join you to make up numbers. I have made extra gifts so would be happy to participate in another group.

I have my hands full with organizing the first group though I've finished all the lists and plans knowing that I only have a couple of free days between now and when we leave scared1
But if one of you starts another one then you can all take part

What should I be doing now that we are less than 4 weeks out???? We actually leave 3 weeks from tomorrow!!!! I feel like I have been wondering aimlessly around my house, daunted by the task of packing for a 14 day trip for 6 people. Anyone have a good "packing schedule" or any pointers at things I could/should be doing at this point???

I really hate to pack, but if I let DH do it we would be in huge trouble!

Lists, lists and more lists!

I've actually written a day by day tally mark chart for clothing, so I can see how many pairs of shorts/t's etc. we need. I want to take as little as possible and intend to wash while away. We always pack light but this one's a challenge! For a 2 week holiday we always take 1 weeks of clothes and then wash. There's always a time the kids want to swim or do something I don't want to, and some quiet time with washer and dryer is what I often need! Not everyone's choice though.

In the what i would/wouldn't do again type threads I read so often that people take too many clothes. I hate lugging suitcases so making a 'what we'll wear' list will hopefully help me to not over pack!

I've started with shorts, t-shirts and summer dresses. It's pretty cold up here, so no-ones going to be wearing them in the next 3 weeks, so they're already in. Also have all clothes for dinner put together as outfits hanging in the wardrobe.

Shoes can go it. FE gifts can go in. Swimwear can go in.

I'm getting quite excited thinking about it now!
Might go and finish my last pirate t-shirt!

There's always a time the kids want to swim or do something I don't want to, and some quiet time with washer and dryer is what I often need! Not everyone's choice though

Did you know that the Dream had this new system for laundry? No need to carry or FIND quarters to wash!!!!!! Can't wait!!!

Seriously, I always wash almost all of our things to put back in the suitcases, so when we come back home I don't need too, that and the fact that we drive to and back Florida, so we need our clothes to be clean on our way back to use them!!!!!!

Lynn and I pack as little as possible. You all are right in that there is quiet time in which to hit the laundry room without giving up any activity time. When we were on the Dream last April we were very happy to see that the coin operated laundry was replaced with the stateroom key card. Made life much easier.

What other cruises have you taken?

Hi Jenene! We have been on Carnival and Holland America, I think that's it. We have not done those cruises together as a family, but our individual reports never hold up to our Disney experiences so that's what we do together, although it's been a while!

I am really interested to see if our experience on the much bigger Dream is any different from the Magic and Wonder.
