We have a free dining (and pre-stay) booked at Pop for end of August and spent the weekend tossing around the idea of upgrading to a moderate. I priced everything out and decided on CSR. My plan was to call this morning and make the change (rather than do it online since there's 2 stays, each in 2 rooms plus we're adding a day). Anyhow, I checked the pricing again to see if Standard rooms were available (there's not) and the prices increased a ton!! For a week's stay we're talking a difference of $1200  Any chance if it being different when I call?

Are you sure you were looking at the same room type previously? If you were looking at Standard View previously and now it's not available, you are seeing the prices for a more expensive room, which makes sense.

Yep, same room. I checked like 3 times to make sure. There were no standard rooms when I looked before either.

IME the room prices really don't change, other than year to year, unless you are looking at a different category of room or different dates. You can try calling and see what they say. I do know there are more rooms available than what is actually shown sometimes, but I'm not sure under what circumstances phone CMs access them.

To my knowledge, there's no reason the prices should change. The rack rates are static for the year. The only fluctuations you'd see are different room views/types, adding more people to the room, number of ticket days if it defaulted to a package, or not searching under current promotions offered (if any). If there's a current promotion you're searching under and there are no longer rooms available under that promotion, that could change the price. Not sure what's out for August.

Rack rates would always stay the same once they were released UNTIL last year. It was noticed last year by many long time DIS members that some time after August, there were price increases in rack rates for some dates later in the year. It was a big deal as in it was the first time it's ever happened, or at least noticed. If I recall correctly, they bumped up by $15-$25 per night. I believe Pete did a dis unplugged podcast on the subject.

But was it a one-time bump that was seen mid-year, or were the prices fluctuating daily based on availability? What I was referring to is that Disney resort prices are what they are. Even if they throw in an unheard of increase mid-year. Most other hotels, their rates will fluctuate as often as daily depending on occupancy rates and availability, as the hotel fills up (or doesn't).

The rates don't change that much.
But, you can get a different promo total and not realize it.
Are you sure you have the same promo button selected across the top?

Right, but that was only a small bump, not $1200

Does the new stay include free dining or just a dining package? I don't see any free dining packages available but could have missed it.

It is possible if you were searching under a promotion and a particular room catagory was no longer available or the promo ended it defaulted to the rack rate, depending on your length of stay it is quite possible to jump in price by $1200

I would call and check. One time that happened to us that a discount wasn't showing anymore and I called and was able to get it for most of our stay. I hope it works out.

I compared the rates listed on Disney's website to the rack rates posted at Mouse savers and I'm not seeing any big price jump on Disney's site. If they had done one overnight, it wouldn't be updated at Mousesavers yet, so it would show.

This would be my guess.

By any chance, is there a striked out price displayed across the last price you've seen?

I've noticed today there is a new “glitch” on the website (or a glitch I haven't seen before): sometimes, when a promotional rate is sold out, instead of saying it is “unavailable”, it might show the rack price, mentionning, wrongly, the promotion has been applied.

I've stumbled on this glitch quite a few times today, checking AP rates in August.

Yes, I would call...we just switched things up for our trip and they told me things change constantly. There was also a couple of deals they could look through to find the best possible deal for us. They might also suggest another upgraded resort with more availability.

Sorry, I never came back yesterday to update. I don't know what I did over the weekend but whatever "deal" I found then was apparently wrong (maybe I had a missing day or something). I do know that I had part of the stay at rack rates yesterday so that did account for about $400 of the difference.....the rest? Heaven only knows. At least I'm only kicking myself for being wrong and not for procrastinating.
