have you found anything that helps you ride TeaCups (with fast spinning kiddos) and the TestTrack, etc, without feel so naseauted. As I get older (ripe old age of 37!!!, LOL), I'm beginning to feel motion sickness even on kids playgrounds somedays. Any ideas would be great!~

I did the less drowsy formula of Drammamine as a precaution each day, because I also find that I'm getting more motion sickness as the years go by(I'm 35!)

How did you feel after taking the less drowsy Dramamine? Were you tired/sleepy? Or was it as if you hadn't taken anything at all?

For cruises, we use Sea Bands for motion sickness. My cousin used these for morning sickness. They work well and have no side affects.

Another recommendation for DRAMAMINE!! I am soo not a ride person, but in the spirit of, well, disney, I took dramamine (chewable) every morning and also gave it to my DD. She always requires it for car rides too or else it is guaranteed she will, you know. She has always been that way.

Anyway, it definitely helped me. I would mainly stay away from rides for fear and dizziness. It definitely helped with the dizziness!

Great info! I had no idea that there was a less-drowsy version of Dramamine. And, what are Sea Bands and where do I get them? I'm willing to try it all to keep up with my kids! So glad I'm not the only one who's feeling it more with age, LOL. :rotfl: :rotfl:

They just did a sea sickness test on Mythbusters and while it was painful to watch, it was enlightening.

The one thing that worked the best for them without any side effects was ginger pills! You can find them at a health or vitamin store. I have yet to try it.

What I have tried for boating was Bonine and it didn't make me feel drugged, but I only took 1/2.

Dh took Bonine (which I think is similar in formulation to the less-drowsy Dramamine). He still didn't attempt the Tea Cups, and he was extremely ill for a couple of hours after Mission:Space (before they had the "green" version available), but he could do Test Track, RnR, ToT, Space Mountain, etc. with much less dizziness/nausea. Oh, he didn't do so well on Expedition Everest either, especially when he followed it with Kali.

I take Less Drowsy Dramamine with no problems, but even with the Dramamine, I know my limits, and there is no way I could ever do the tea cups. Astro Orbiters was too much spinning for me. Without the Dramamine, I would have gotten sick for sure; with it, I just felt pretty nauseous. I felt fine after Test Track. Can you possibly test a few motion sickness remedies before your trip?

Sea Bands can be puchased at most drug stores, they are wrist bands that use pressure points to relieve motion sickness.

I have also heard good things about ginger pills, I will look into these for our next cruise, Thanksgiving 2007! I'm wondering about ginger tea? Will that work also? DD is not so good with swallowing pills, that is why the wrist bands work so well for her.

We have also used the patches (available by perscription only) that go behind your ear. They worked well for me, but they made my husband's throat and eyes very dry to the point of misery. DD was too young to use the patches.

I gave my DD13 dramamine when we knew we were going to try Test Track. She loved the ride and was fine. I think it just helped her nerves more than anything, and once she rode it and was fine, she didn't ask for anymore dramamine for the whole trip.

On our first cruise, my best friend bought these pills, I believe they were called Nausies?, but not sure about the spelling. We had rough water the first few days out and these kept her feeling well. They did not make her drowsy.
They are chewable and are supposed to work in 4 minutes from taking. She bought them at the local drugstore as well.

I also find that I'm a bit more sensitive to motion now (and I'm only 34), so I tend to avoid the tea cups, but am fine on all the other rides (haven't tried M:S yet, so this could change).

I've always found that even the less drowsy dramamine still makes me loopy so I've been taking Bonine for the last several years. I've also heard about the ginger pills and might try them this year. At least for the car ride down to Orlando. Hubby's driving kills me! :sad2:

:thumbsup2 Sea Bands rock! I lost mine, though, and was unable to find them at WalMarts from Chicago to Tampa to Kissimmee. :confused3 As a result, I picked up some less drowsy Dramamine in Effingham at WalMart and it completely :faint: for the majority of the drive on Day 1. Decided to go it without for the rest of the trip because my eyes wouldn't even focus!

The last time I tried Drammamine thinking it was the cure all for those crazy spinning rides I still managed to blow chunks. The paratroopers are not my friend. It's a no go for me. A friend of mine swears by anavert. I think it's anavert there's also alavert. One is for allergies; the other motion. It's prescription though.

Same with me! I start taking less drowsy dramamine the night before we arrive at WDW. I take it at night before bed because each dose works for 24 hours and if it does make me drowsy at all, I am sleeping! I wake up feeling great and not tired AND motion sickness free. It really works wonders for me, I would not be albe to go aon any ride if it wasn't for this great product.

Sea Bands(tm) are a New Age-y .... uhhh, to be nice I'll say "placebo" device . Instead of paying good money for them, just take some sport wristbands and tape a nickel or two to them and tell the kids they are "Seasick Disk Bands" and the "disk" needs to press against the wrist. Then if the placebo idea doesn't work on your kids, you won't be out $10 for two wristbands with little plactic discs on them ;) .

From personal experience I would suggest scopolamine patches, at least for adults. I am not sure if they can be used by kids....
EDIT: Definitely NOT for use by kids.

Placebo? :confused3 They don't go on your wrists. They go on a specific accupressure point a few fingerbreadths above your wrists. And they work quite well.

Pretty much, yes...

But as with any mostly harmless placebo, patient perception is what is important. So if folks want to try it, hey, go for it-- but to save paying $10 for two wristbands with little plastic disks on them, just take a sports wrist band, tape a hard pea, bean or plastic disk to it, and strap it on your forearm 2-3 fingers down from the wrist joint, with the disk onthe palm side of the forearm I think. If it works, great, and you've saved $10. If it doesn't work, you've saved $10. A win - win situation :thumbsup2

I have been on 12 cruises and always take Bonnine and have not had any side effects from it and even in really rough seas I was fine. I also give this to my kids, my son just turns green when we fly and wild rides are a no no but with the bonnine he has no problems with any ride at all.

Tried Ginger pills once, they gave me a huge headache, everything had a ginger aftertaste and they did not prevent me from getting seasick! To this day I can't stand the taste of ginger...
