Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem’s Free Dining Extravaganza

Mmm, Chefs de France looks tasty! We have a lunch reservation there. Do you know if the prix fixe menu is offered at lunch? Though we also have a table service meal for dinner that night, so we may not want to eat too much for lunch. But it does look delicious!

Great update! :thumbsup2

EPCOT really has such a wide variety of places to eat, doesn't it?

I'd love to try the tequila bar in Mexico - I wouldn't know what to order though!

And I love the picture of 'Patrick' at Soarin' - he's a great favourite of ours!:)

Hi Cass! Good to see you!!!

How's the family?:grouphug:

Chef de France does have a prix fixe menu at lunch. I remember looking at it before and noticing some lighter options as well. I'd recommend it!! :thumbsup2

I absolutely love the Animal Kingdom Lodge, so I was really excited to get to head over there for dinner at Boma. We made sure to give ourselves extra time before our reservation to check out the animals, gift shop and other sights of the resort. It was really well timed because the animals on the savannah right outside were really active as they were eating.

Finally it was time for dinner, I was ready for a buffet of deliciousness! Our server that night was Jeff, he was really good. He had a very sarcastic sense of humor and I tend to be pretty gullible. So when I pulled out our room key to show him our dining plan, he looked at me and with a straight serious face said “I’ve never seen that before in my life, what is the dining plan?” I actually got confused and started to explain it to him before I realized he was being sarcastic. Too funny!! After he took our drink orders, we were off to the buffet! I apologize for some dark pictures, I have always struggled with getting good shots here because it is so dark. I wanted to try to get pictures of the buffet here but the one thing we noticed is that this buffet in particular is really busy. The one strange part is that the entrance into the kitchen for the servers is in between the meat and pasta stations. It makes it a little hectic getting your food in this area and I didn’t want to try to juggle plates and a camera. Here is one shot I got of the inside of Boma- such incredible theming!!

490.jpg

Once we headed up to the buffet, I started with the chicken corn porridge, it was really good! VERY VERY blurry picture, sorry!!

497.jpg

DH got some sort of sausage soup. He couldn’t remember the name and I couldn’t find it on Deb Wills site. However he really liked it, he said it had a really nice flavor. He said it had a little spice and was a little different. He hadn’t really had anything like it before. But then isn’t that the point of Boma?? Trying new dishes? :thumbsup2

496.jpg

Here is my first plate. I was trying to start small with roasted chicken, bobotie, rice and salmon.

494.jpg

I love the bobotie here. If you haven’t had it before it is a type of lamb and beef quiche. From what we were told by a cast member from South Africa by the savannah that evening, the bobotie here is one of the most authentic tasting dishes served at Boma.

Here is the Chef’s first plate:

495.jpg

Some of the same dishes with salmon, roast chicken, bobotie, rice. He also added the pepper steak and bread.

Round 2: My second plate. Here is where I gave in to the macaroni and cheese temptation. I also added some roasted red pepper hummus, and a cucumber salad. I really liked this cucumber salad, it had a really nice dressing. It was kind of creamy but not too thick at all.

DH’s second plate:

He also gave in to the macaroni and cheese and then added some couscous and I believe some Fufu- sweet potatoes- on the left side of this very blurry picture.

Round 3:
More macaroni and cheese, cucumber salad, mashed potatoes and strawberries. YUM!

After this I finally made my way up to the dessert section. My most favorite section at this restaurant because of the one and only….Zebra domes. I also made mine into a hidden mickey for added fun!

501.jpg

I did however discover something new this evening. The Chef and the in-laws are not Zebra dome fans! Craziness!!!! I love these so much that I once tried unsuccessfully to re-create these at home. They were not nearly as good. I also got an apple crisp of some sort, it was good but it’s tough to top zebra domes!

Here is DH’s dessert plate:

502.jpg

He went with a zebra dome, chocolate chip cookie, apple crisp, a chocolate mousse cake and what we called a giraffe dome. He claimed that the giraffe dome was better than the zebra dome although I think it is hard to top those zebra domes!! All in all, Boma is still one of my favorite places to eat in Walt Disney World. A lot of that has to do with the overall experience of eating at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, it was a really fun night!

Just for fun- a picture of a zebra dome after I played with my camera settings and found a better setting for this dark restaurant. Better late than never!

YUMM :goodvibes

UP NEXT: Snacks in the Magic Kingdom and lunch at Le Cellier

Boma looks really interesting! Like a lot of unusual stuff. And Animal Kingdom Lodge is beautiful, of course :goodvibes

Great reviews! Can't wait to read more. Those zebra domes look yummy!:goodvibes

We started off our day with our traditional coffee at Old Port Royale. This particular morning I had a bite of my DMIL’s cheese danish and instantly regretted not getting one for breakfast myself. But I was saving room for a snack at the Magic Kingdom!:thumbsup2

Next we decided that even though we had lunch plans at Le Cellier, we wanted to start our morning at the Magic Kingdom to hop on the big rides there and then head over to Epcot in time for our 1:20pm lunch reservations. We started our morning by hitting up the mountains, and a few other rides and decided soon that it was time for a snack. Our snack choice was pretty unanimous that morning, we went over to Aloha Isle in Adventureland for a Dole Whip Float!! :lovestruc

Here is the chef with his:

538.jpg

I mixed it up this time and actually got one with Orange Dole Whip ice cream and pineapple juice instead of the Pineapple Ice cream like DH and like I have always gotten. Dare I say it…I actually preferred it with the Orange Dole Whip ice cream. I thought it sweetened it up a bit.

539.jpg

This was when we experienced our one and only rain storm of the trip. It started pretty hard and we took cover to enjoy our dole whips under the seating area right to the left of Aloha Isle. Luckily we were one of the first to head that way so we actually got a table and chairs for all of us.

Afterwards we took a rainy jaunt over to the tikis so we could take one of the pictures I wanted to have from our trip.

541.jpg

I love these guys! A few more rides and we decided to leave a bit early for our reservations. It was a good thing we did because the monorails were actually not running right for about the 3rd time that trip so we had to take a boat. We thought that it would be faster to take a boat to the Poly and walk to the TTC instead of taking the MK ferry. It may or may not have been faster, but it was a fun reason to get to see the Poly and ride on the Seven Seas Lagoon. Something about hearing those horns on those resort launches makes me feel right at home. (Probably because I heard them all the time when I worked at the Whispering Canyon over at the Wilderness Lodge during our college program.) All total it was a really good thing we gave ourselves plenty of time because it took us about an hour to get from the MK to Epcot with all the transfers. All our walking around worked up quite the appetite for:

562.jpg

We checked in and our table wasn’t quite ready yet which gave us time to take in the gorgeous landscaping in the Victoria Gardens. It is gorgeous down in this part of Canada and I feel like it gets overlooked a good bit, it has to be one of the most relaxing parts of Epcot!

564.jpg

I had only ever eaten here once before so I was excited to try it again. I had gotten the cheese soup during the Food and Wine Festival back in 2007, and I was ready to try that again too! We got there and our server was an international representative from Canada who was really good, very friendly. It was his last day of his program so we chatted with him a lot about our college programs and the differences in the college and international programs. What an awesome way for people to experience living in a new country and share so much about their own country!

Again I apologize for somewhat blurry pictures, I hate the way my flash makes some of these dark restaurants look. But here is a picture of their delicious bread!

568.jpg

I love the pretzel bread and it is really yummy to dip in the cheese soup.

569.jpg

I have to say that paying out of pocket for this cheese soup was a decision I was a little hesitant about because I didn’t want to fill up on soup and not have room for my steak or feel like I had wasted the money. I think this was the only time l have ever eaten every single bite of a soup appetizer before. And I still had room for my steak. Not sure how that is possible, but when it comes to making room for cheese I guess anything is possible!!

Next I had decided to get a Filet Mignon.

571.jpg

It was incredible. I get my prepared medium and it was done perfectly and INCREDIBLY tender. I have had Filet Mignon at other places in Disney and I am always impressed but this was especially good. I didn’t ask them to hold the mushrooms even though I scraped them off (not a big mushroom fan here). I do think that the sauce they were in added a nice flavor though so I am glad I didn’t ask them to. This came with a side of potatoes that were really yummy as well, although I must say I could have had a few more on my plate. ;) Probably a good thing I didn’t gorge myself on cheese soup and au gratin potatoes in the Florida heat though.

The Chef got a strip steak with the potatoes as well.

570.jpg

He also had his prepared medium and thought it was cooked well. He said the steak tasted awesome! We were both very happy with our steaks; however I will say that I was a little disappointed in their side swapping policy. DFIL works really hard to watch his diet and was not allowed to switch potatoes for a veggie with his steak. I thought this was a bit strange. Instead he just skipped them all together.

Next it was time for dessert and I was so excited about our choices. I ordered the Canadian Moose. It was absolutely adorable!!

575.jpg

I thought the mousse itself was a bit rich but still tasty. My favorite part was actually the maple cookie “antlers”. The chef got the S’mores and I wasn’t sure what to expect however I definitely was not expecting this.

573.jpg

It was so cool!! He loved it and said it was very sweet. He is a HUGE sweet tooth, so definitely a good choice for him!

We wanted to do lunch there since dinner is now a 2 credit table service meal. However it is a BIG lunch and they definitely do not rush you there. Not that it was slow by any means, it was a relaxing pace. Plus DMIL and DFIL had a mix up with the amount of credits that our server took off so we had to wait to get that taken care of. By the time we were done and since the rain had cooled it off a bit we decided to skip the pool for the day and do a few rides in Epcot then head back to the Magic Kingdom to do the night time shows there. This is really not typical for us, we love taking our break at the pool but after a long lunch break and cooler weather we were ready to power through and make it an open to close park day!!

UP NEXT: Quick Service dinner at the Magic Kingdom!

Just Got caught up on this and I'm so happy you decided to do a dining review! I love it! I don't think I've ever seen the Bavarian cheesecake and it looks wonderful! I went to Le Cellier on our last trip and it was amazing so I made a reservation again for our trip in august. But I've been seeing some not so favorable reviews on here lately so I was a little nervous. I'm so happy to see that you enjoyed it so much! Your review was exactly like I remember it. Whew!

You and DH are so adorable! Love the photos!
