Did anyone watch Dr.Phil today. It was about a woman who was raped in her teens and how her testimony put him away. Well he gets out when it finds out that his DNA didn't match. It's really heartbreaking on both sides. They are going to meet face tommorow

No, but I was told about it in class today. It sounds horrible. :sad2:

I missed it :(

Is it the people in this article?

http://blog.shankbone.org/2009/03/05/innocent-man-befriends-woman-who-put-him-in-jail-for-11-years/

I would have thought they had already met considering they co-wrote a book together.

Was this a re-run?

Nope, different people. The guy on Dr. Phil today was in jail 14 years.

I did watch today, and while I feel really sorry for the woman who was raped she needs to come to terms with the fact that she identified the wrong man. Two independent DNA tests, each saying 100% that this guy was not the one, can't be wrong. Yes, she went through something horrible and at the time she thought she was doing the right thing. But she has to accept that she made a mistake. She definitely needs a lot of counseling.

I feel sorry for the guy too, to spend 14 years in prison for something he didn't do. To not be with his wife, and his kids. Wow. And he's not bitter. His attitude was amazing.

I can't wait to see tomorrow's episode where they meet face to face.

I saw part of it. Mainly the interview with the guy. I think they said he absolutely no record prior to her picking him from a line-up. ??

And yes, he said he could not be angry with her. Considering what had been done to her and how that can really mess up a person. He understands how people can make mistakes.

The small part of her interview I did see is that she still feels he's the one & is terrified now that he's out of jail.

My husband and I watched this today. It really was heartbreaking for all involved. I would hope that I could have the strength of that man if I ever needed it!

Oh, that makes it so much worse. Has she been assured this man did not commit this crime against her? It was proven it wasn't him right?

I guess I really needed to watch. I will try and catch tomorrows episode.
I feel bad for both of them.

Yes this man had two seperate DNA test and they both proved it wasn't him. I think she might feel guility that she sent the wrong man to jail. She kept saying she did something wrong. Dr. Phil told her numerous times that she wasn't to blame for anything.

Looks like I didn't see enough of her interview. Sorry I got that wrong. I know I've got the "she's terrified" part right, so she must be scared that the actual rapist is still out there then.

Today was the squel it was very touching. I'm glad the girl was able to face him eye to eye. The guy was very forgiving I'm not sure I could have been

This is the primary reason that eye witness accounts are all but useless if the person is not known to the witness. Too many people are in jail for crimes that they have not committed based on a single eye witness' testimony...

I can only image how many people are fasely accused. I hope this gentlemen can sue the police for arresting the wrong person.

Exactly! Some victims just want to know that 'this' is the person, many times the person would look like them, eye witness conviction are often wrong convictions.

I know I would be

I think that is why there is court to figure out who belogns in jail and who does not

I missed Dr. Phil so sorry if this is a dumb question but were the police negligent (sp?) in some way?

Terri

Why didn't they do the DNA testing 14 years ago? Surely it's been around that long hasn't it????
